Weird mix of people: on one hand, the grungy rocker types and at the same time, young yuppies, wearing the standing collars and Burberry scarves. Really odd but at the same time amusing. The staff think they are tougher than they are working in a place like this but it fits the goal of the bar. Really tight quarters when it fills up but the vibe is good. If in the area though, a good place to grab a drink and have a couple laughs. You'll definitely not regret it even if this isn't your thing.

The beer selection is mostly standard, but they do also have Duckstein which makes me favour the place even more. Credit for me finding the place must be given to my old German teacher, Schaida. Apparently it's been a favourite of hers since she was a student at Hamburg uni. I don't think it's changed much over the years.

Jupi is an awesome little cafe-bar on the corner of the Gängeviertel. As with the rest of the…read morequarter, I assume it's squatted, but never mind it's dubious legal status, it's a great place to hang out. The decor is very much squatter-chic. I.e. cool old furniture and great artwork in a bombed-out looking room. The music is great. They have a library of books. They have comfy sofas, and they probably don't care for the rest of the world to know how cool their place is. Oh, and one other thing the prices are pay what you want. I therefore gave them EUR5 for two beers
