Like vegetables, I'm also not the biggest fan of churches. I've possibly only stepped foot in one…read moreless than ten times in my life, despite the fact my uncle is a vicar. It's quite strange really; my dad's quite the atheist, but his brother (my uncle, obviously) is the total opposite. Thankfully, Café Verde is not a church but is situated in an old church house. It offers all its customers a comfortable dining atmosphere (that's right, comfort in a church) whilst they enjoy a range of hot and cold refreshments. The menu there features the usual snacks you'd expect from small local cafes like this, such as sandwiches, panninis and bagels as well as a small selection of daily specials and hot meals like homemade soup and quiche. Their desserts are also particularly delicious, with their sweet homemade apple crumble being well worth the money. Their prices are very reasonable too, meaning you can get lovely home cooking for a very small price.

I went here with my mother for a light lunch as she had been before with friends. The menu…read moreselection is ok for a small cafe, however the waiting time for the food was ridiculous. The place was not overly busy and I ordered a teacake and a drink for my mother and also ordered beans and cheese on white toast for myself. There were 3 people working behind the counter and it took 10 minutes to receive our drinks. There was a further 10 minutes before my mother received her teacake. When this arrived at the table, I was expecting my order to arrive too. It did not. After 30 minutes of sitting and waiting for my beans and cheese on toast, it finally arrived, was thrown in front of me and a short, sharp "sorry for your wait" accompanied from the owner. I ate the food, by which time my mother had eaten her teacake and had needed to go finish her shopping before the parking time limit was reached. As I ate, I noticed the baked beans were lukewarm and the cheese on top had no chance of melting due to the temperature of the beans. The toast could have been very nice, as it was a hand cut super thick slice of a tin loaf. Unfortunately, this was partly burnt. I did not have time to return it and was suffering from acid indigestion at this point, so needed to just eat the food and leave. This was my first experience at Cafe Verde and it will undoubtedly be my last.
