This is dangerous since I am of the belief that if I'm a good girl at the doctor, I should get a prize. My prize of choice? The apple puff pastry and chocolate croissants. Oh MY YUM. They are featuring apple right now and to be perfectly honest, they may be going a bit overboard: I don't really want EVERYTHING to be apple-laden everyday (oops! Did I just admit I go there almost everyday?) but it's delicious just the same. My real favorites are their cookies and their chocolate croissants. The health conscious me says the croissants are a good mix between between buttery flakiness and a little chocolate. The pregnant me says PUT SOME MORE CHOCOLATE IN YOUR CROISSANTS NOW. They're still outstanding. The bread is amazing - they're now working with a local brewery to make what my husband says is an outstanding beer bread. On top of all that, it's our quaint and sweet neighborhood bakery and the people running the shop are very nice. It's both very fortunate and very dangerous that Kanniston Leipomo is located approximately 2 minutes walking distance from our house.

I came to know Kanniston Leipomo when I recently moved to punavuori and ever since I (wherever I can) drop by for a cake. I must mentioned how easy it is to notice how passionate these bakers are, as well as inspiring it is what they do here, from the cakes to the pastries, I just love how good their variety is. From rye bread, pulla, loaf bread and voisarvi to traditional Finnish cakes and even a pretty tasty red velvet. The place is quiet and calm, (not much of seating space though), prices are pretty affordable and if you ask me, I will definitely say quality wise, it is worth a visit. perhaps a good option for a rainy afternoon coffee with a friend. Looking forward to come back soon.

A great stop off for coffee & treats if you're in the neighborhood!…read more We stopped here for a quick take away coffee before we headed off to see some sights, but we succumbed to some pastries as well after seeing them in the display cases. Delicious! The strawberry croissant-like thing on the counter was particularly good - there was a slight sugary glaze on the berries that made them utterly delectable. Prices were fair, ok for Helsinki standards (1,95 for the large strawberry pastry), and the coffee was decent as well. There was also a nice selection of options for coffee fixings out on the counter - different milks and creams, and both white and brown sugar. Service was a little slow as there was only one person working, but certainly not the worst compared to some other places in the city. If you're walking by, don't hesitate to stop by and get a little sugar or caffeine derived energy!

It was definitely not as cosy on the inside, I got flashback to the boring café milieus at uni. That said it seems like a popular place for all ages and yes there were a lot of students there too (surprise). Good value for money lunch buffet and food for vegetarians/vegans too. We shared a vegan pie which was really nice, much nicer than its looks, with tofu, carrot and onion filling. Really simple and very flavourful. In fact, despite all great vegan food we enjoyed in Helsinki, this is still the pie my partner still remembers most fondly. The chocolate cake and chocolate muffin - huge! we could have shared one - on the other hand were really not nice at all, very dry and lacking in flavour. Free wi-fi and dogs welcome, which are always two extra plus. Apart from the great vegan pie of course.
