I'm guessing the food is between "average" and "very good"... the mushroom soup was very good. The house wine was nice. The burger was sort of overdone and the shape and size bore no connection to the bread it was on... but it didn't suck.
But enough about the food unless you want to talk about the beef I have... my wife and I walk in and sit at a four-top and after a few minutes someone asks us to move to a table for two so that they can sit a party of four if necessary. Makes sense... even though the place was far from packed. Cut to 45 minutes later, we still don't have our main course and there are people that have arrived after us and are already finished and gone... the party of four that they sat at our original table was the family of one of the employees (a cook, I think). The family came in 10 minutes after we'd ordered but were just about done with their meal before ours even showed up. All of this COULD be explained away but the fact is that it felt like our order had been ignored while the family of the cook had their food promptly served.
The fish dish I'd ordered finally shows up and the pieces were so miniscule that I sent it back. The waitress told me those were standard-sized pieces and I pointed out that several other patrons were eating the same thing (that was, in fact, why I had ordered what I had ordered... other people's looked so good) and there portions were about four times the size of the pieces on my plate. Seriously, the piece of fish I was looking at was one bite. Though, admittedly, I take very big bites. The server offered to add more or get me something different but by now we'd been there almost an hour and I was pretty pissed... not British for drunk, American for angry.
I think it was the perfect storm of crappy circumstances and there was nothing intentional about the bad experience but hard not to notice that we got the short end of every stick that was there. read more
