It definitely isn't the most inspiring of places to go and relax over a bacon sandwich and always seems to be guarded by a host of unfriendly people who smoke a little too close to the inside of the cafe for my liking. I braved the Docklands Cafe when it was raining and I was locked out and waiting for my keys. I probably should have stayed outside. This somewhat negative judgement is mainly based on the staff and the people who seem to be in there 24/7 as opposed to the food which didn't look too bad (I only had a coffee). The place serves a good selection of traditional cafe grub but that is all I can bring myself to praise it on. It is cheap, but definitely not cheerful.

I went there with my wife and kids and was glad that they had highchairs and the staff were really good and kept the kids entertained, even when they almost wrecked the place! I found that there was an extensive menu which caters for everyones needs and the food was cooked to perfection. I do not live too close to the cafe but I make sure I take my family there for Sunday lunch every week without fail.

The breakfasts are really special- freshly baked pastries and the Mediterranean platters are all amazing, as are the selection of fresh fruit juices. The coffee is phenomenal- 100% Arabica coffee- and is the main draw of the place- you can also purchase bags of it to take home with you. Buenos Aires also has an excellent outside catering service. I once used them for a photo shoot and they served the crew the best on-set buffet we had all year.

Service can be a little slow at times and on this occasion, where I believe it took longer to get the hot chocolate than to drink it, it was particularly slow with no good reason i.e. it was not busy. Another problem with this cafe is that it can get cold in there in winter. With the door constantly open in a location where it can get very breezy, it is difficult to have this cafe get warm. Anyway, nice enough to grab a hot drink before/after the cinema or just to warm up having visited some of the other shops in the area.

I do like a good cuppa and when I could have bought the beans, roasted them and frothed the milk myself becuase of the slowness, it does bother me. The decor is ancient and traditional, but the seats are comfy, though, they could do with a few more. Not what I wanted, but I dealt. The few other times I've been in the service is always really standoffish. Barely being acknowledged, being snapped at for ordering from the "wrong end" of the counter (no other customers, so I just approached where a staff member was), etc. The coffees are ok. As far as the big chains, they're always my least preferred. But that aside even, the service here is nearly always quite bad.

The coffee comes from the square mile folk with some interesting choices on the filter front. The baristas know their stuff and are very skilful in preparing the cups. Thank you guys, it's much appreciated. As with everywhere in Brixton Village it's a pretty small but friendly space. Today 4 of us perched happily by the door. There are few tables inside and a couple outside but that was only for the brave or foolhardy in this weather. If you like coffee you will love this place.
