My only complaint used to be that they didn't open on a Saturday morning but I've heard that's recently changed and I look forward to giving breakfast a red hot go there. Lunch menu is pretty extensive. They serve classic cafe options. Sandwiches, toasties, wraps, fries, soups etc. They have a pretty extensive range of sweets as well. They usually have some kind of drink special on the board behind the counter. Like strawberry lemonade or sweet berry iced teas which I think is nice change from just your usual soft drink/juice/flavoured water you pick from the fridge. Stops me from getting a Tiro every time. The staff are quite friendly and the service is usually very fast. You don't have to wait long for your coffee or meals. You have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating and it is very open. It's a good space for families. Parking can be difficult as it is street only and there's a fair bit of construction around there at the moment. But it's free parking so you win some, you lose some. It's a great place to swing through for a quick take away coffee and sandwich. If you eat in the meals are alright, not the single greatest thing you'll ever eat. Expect your standard cafe fare and you shouldn't really walk away too disappointed.

I've been quite taken by the place upon my first impression. Who wouldn't like a place called Chocolate Soldier? I know I would more than love to serve in the chocolate army! Well, that day hasn't come yet, where I can finally sit and relax to read a book at a cafe (hasn't happened in a while), but I did stop to grab something while working on my paper. It was noon and bustling with lunchers when I went, but the staff was very friendly, and seemed to recognize a lot of returning customers. I tried the mocha with my pistachio lemon coffee cake, as I thought a hot chocolate would be too sweet, as well as the chicken, ham and cheese sandwich. The mocha was thick and rich, and the coffee cake was moist and a nice combination of pistachio and lemon. I'm a big fan of pistachio, so I think it was a good choice for me. It wasn't the best coffee cake ever, but it was delicious. I'm sad to say I don't feel the same about the sandwich, as it was dry and didn't taste fresh, and I ended up taking the chicken out. I didn't actually have any of their chocolate, but maybe they're worth a try. Overall it was a mixed experience, and I don't know if I would recommend this place, even if it is conveniently located right in the center of the city. Not a good value for it's price...

Win-win, yes? Well, no. Unfortunately I had consistently bad coffee experiences here. I returned and returned, but it never got any better. When the milk wasn't burnt, the coffee was bitter. The hot chocolate or mocha power just tasted bland. Nobody has time for bad coffee. However the tiny chocolates in the display cabinet were delicious (you'd hope so, given the name of the cafe!), but just not enough to make up for the bad coffee.

The cafe is located at the back of the IGA complex with a generous outdoor patio area away from the main road. There is a concerted effort by the cafe to green up their area with plants (recently rejuvenated with spring on the way) and it really helps to break up the usual car park feel so many cafes can have in shopping centres. For families with young kids there is a great little section set up with plenty of toys to keep your little ones occupied. Having been here a few times I feel like I can confidently say that the food that we've had has been really good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a great place for breakfast or lunch. There is a slightly Spanish bent to many things but also plenty for those just wanting a snack or something straight forward. I do find the coffee a little inconsistent depending on who is making it, not that it has bad flavor but more that the milk is over heated, perhaps that is just my personal preference though. The service is friendly and prompt regardless of weekday or weekend visits which is important. I just wish they were open on Sunday's and public holidays as we'd probably frequent them more than we do now. All in all this addition to the local cafe scene is a vey welcome one for us in Everton Hills and somewhere I would recommend if you're in the area.

TL; DR: Brisbane's suburban expansion continues into 2015. This is another worthy contender for you to cross the river / leave the CBD / make an effort to dine at.

They also make fresh baked goodies in house daily. Fittingly, My Mistress aptly categorises the menu as "Cheeky Flings" (for the simpler Toast, Fruit Loafs & Acai bowls $5-$10), "Main Affairs" (for the more substantial items $12-$18), & "On the side", for more extras like mushrooms, bacon, feta etc ($4.50). We had the: (1) Eggs Marilyn (organic caramelised onion & caraway rye, free range fried eggs, margaret river smoked ham, wilted spinach topped with creamy hollandaise sauce $17) (2) Eggs Monica (free range scrambled eggs on a corn zucchini fritter, blistered cherry tomatoes & a seasoned avocado smash $17) (3) Head Mistress (Baked free range eggs with house made spicy beans, sour cream & cheesy bread $18) plus extra chorizos. Just the name of this place itself should pique anyone's interest, but even more than that, the ratings for their coffee has been consistently high. To my pleasant surprise, the coffee didn't fall short of my expectations! While I'm not usually a fan of dark roast, I enjoyed this roast, as it didn't taste burnt at all. Though the coffee didn't have a particular nutty or fruity aroma, it was still aromatic and smooth. It was a little more acidic than I would have liked, but that's me being overly critical. I would give their coffee a 4.5/5, at least for Brisbane standards, and the location is quite perfect for those who work in the city! They also offer almond milk as an option, which I definitely want to try sometime. The baristas were also quite friendly, and their mascot goat is just too cute! //edit Tried the almond milk latte! Was less than delighted, but it was worth a try! Dampens the coffee taste and waters down the coffee flavor a bit, and in my opinion, not worth the extra dollar.

Keep in mind this isn't really a spot to stop and mooch, although there are a few stools and bar tables for you to perch upon. And in a history of bottom-of-office-building-cafes equating to less than amazing coffee, you'll be surprised to know Frisky Goat (pouring Supreme Roasters coffee and Bunker Hot Chocolate) are a cut above the rest. My latte wasn't overly milky and I could actually detect coffee. Impressed. Plus, I know the guys at Bunker are pretty fussy with who they give their hot chocolate too, so they've got to be good. Oh, and for my lactose intolerant buddies. Bonus points. They offer almond milk for $1 extra.

Served in a sundae glass it felt a lot more "naughty" and calorie-laden than it actually was and the frozen whipped banana (a great recipe with ridiculous ease) gives this a creamy sensation without the regret later in the day! Verdict: The coffee is consistent and for commuters stoping enroute to the train, this is key. The menu is cute and quirky and from my experience today backs it up with the goods. Four weeks in since opening, locals have clearly adopted this new kid on the block as their own and there's already customer / barista first-name-basis relationships in action. But, to be honest, it didn't blow me away. It's a great staple for locals but not for a trip to visit here alone.

Don't be on the phone when you order and don't bring you three wide pram and park in the middle of the main thoroughfare. If you are one person, sit at a table appropriately sized for your oneness. Coffee is Genovese and is consistently great. Food is tasty and reasonable portions for reasonable prices. There are often specials on the board so check those out.

My only complaint is that the prices are still a little bit steep and have been getting steep over time.
