A few years back, I was working in the Asian Institute of Management, which was just across the street from Greenbelt 1. I didn't have a shortage of places to eat during lunch break. In fact, my officemates and I are so flushed with choices, we had to make a Wheel of Fortune-esque contraption with the names of restaurants we like on it so we can just spin it when we're hungry. But there are times when I detest other people and just want to sit down while eating comfort food you can feel to your bones. That is when I sneak out of the office and eat in Cafe Mediterranean. It reminds me of Europe, with its rustic seating and Santorini aesthetic. The waiters are very nice, and the food...the food! Oh my god, those gyro platters are to die for. If you're being all moody and introverted like I was though, it's best to sit deep inside the restaurant, since the outer tables are in full view of anyone passing by. This is Makati, you're bound to run into someone you know.

Good choice for Mediterranean food in the Greenbelt mall in Makati. They have all the classics you would expect.

Great falafel gyros and good hummus. The service was also good. The restaurant was not busy or loud. Would highly recommend the food.

Okay, I held off reviewing Greek Kouzina for awhile because I wanted to try more of their menu and…read moretoday I got the chance. One thing I never fail to order is their stuffed zucchini because it's really good and feels really healthy... it's "greek rice with pine nuts, raisins and tomatoes stuffed in zucchini". However, today I found out that they modified their menu and there's no longer stuffed zucchini (sob!); instead, they changed it to stuffed red bell pepper! Badly needing my rice fix, I ordered it anyway, but very doubtfully. We also got the beef gyros (small pieces of beef, greens, and feta cheese in pita wrap) and the crispy calamares. The good news is, the stuffed red bell pepper was surprisingly even BETTER than the zucchini. It's the sweetest pepper I've ever tasted! Truthfully I'm not a fan of bell peppers because the green ones turn me off so I thought they all taste weird, but this red bell pepper was a game changer for me. TRY IT TRY IT! The other ones we ordered were pretty good as well. So far, I haven't tasted anything that I particularly disliked from Greek Kouzina. I also like their Lamb Meatballs. For dessert, their Greeka Yogurt is a must-try. The honey mixed with yogurt is amazing. If you run out of honey you can always ask for more.

Whenever I take Little Baguio, I always see small restaurant with lots of cars parked outside it, even on the street. One day, a client of mine asked to meet at Greeka, though not the one in San Juan, but the then newly opened branch in SM Aura. Because I already have a major favorite from another restaurant, thought it would be "safe" for me to try Greeka's version, and maybe even compare to see which one I like better. So, I ordered the htipiti, which is basically a feta cheese dip. It was a bit coarse, with small bits of feta and not spicy like the one I have been accustomed to. Their pita is also a bit on the heavier side. Then I had their Roka Garides pasta, which I was unsure of at first, because I didn't think arugula would work well with shrimp and pasta. However, I was glad I tried it because it was good! Being able to enjoy pasta with vegetables is good, but with this, it's just wonderful. Overall, I found that it cannot be compared to my favorite Greek resto, as Greeka has a totally different approach and feel, not just to the eyes but to the palate as well.

AMBIENCE The interior's colors are very Ateneo (a university…read morereference) but this common at other Greek restaurants. We dined here a few times already and it was always chill and cozy. It's a hit and miss for us to get the timing right because at one visit, we were there around lunch time and had to wait in the queue for a very long time. Parking was relatively easy since the restaurant is at Molito. If no open parking slots are available, there's always the basement parking. BEVERAGES Cyma Iced Tea is a home-brew type that was very strong, sweet and heavy. At the same time, the Yogurt Shake had delicious yogurt and fruit rind on top; this was a first and I loved it! FOOD They excel in serving excellent and elegant food! Greek Nachos is on the top of my list because of how refreshingly addicting the toppings and soft pita are. I always want more and more! Kalamarakia and Solomos were fairly good while the Yiouvetsi was really heavy on the belly. My second fave would be the Meat Platter, an abundance of more fluffy pita and some well-cooked meat. Potatoes au jus deserve the same attention for its texture; really nice to chew into. SERVICE There was just one instance where the one who lined us up in the queue that busy lunch day appeared to be moody, and that's okay; we're all human. We could really see it in her slightly agitated face and we felt awkward speaking with her midway. Good thing she snapped out of it when it was time to go to our table. I hope she was able to resolve whatever it was that was bothering her that time. In spite of that, everyone else was very kind, checked on how our food was, and were quick on requests.

And yes, they have vegan options! We had the Mezedes set (melitzanosalata, roasted cauliflower and garlic, and skordalia), Briami, Potatoes Sto Fourno, Greek lemonade, and coffee. The Mezedes sampler was tasty -- they didn't skimp on the bread, and all of the dips were well seasoned. Briami is baked eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes, and zucchini, which had a little too much olive oil and not enough seasoning. One serving of Potatoes Sto Fourno is surprisingly huge and not at all oily, though quite plain. What got to me was the Greek lemonade. I asked the waitstaff what was in it and she said it was just fresh lemonade. Lemme get this straight: it's fresh lemonade that's served in a Greek-themed restaurant, so it must be Greek lemonade. But then, they also serve cafe Americano. Eh? While the food was hot, the service was lukewarm. It helped that the waitstaff were prompt and civil, but they seemed distracted, as if they were inconvenienced to serve another set of patrons. This was the lunch hour, and the place was only 40% full. To any business owners: your service staff's demeanor is significantly responsible in setting the tone for transactions with your customers. If your staff act like they don't care about the customers, the customers won't feel like they need to care about your business. Behavior is contagious. Good thing I care a lot about what I eat, so it's likely I'll return here for their plant-based meals. But not after I forage elsewhere for better service first.

It is the same chef/owner from First Gourmet Academy and this is one of their restaurants that students operate as part of their practicum, I think. With all the new restaurants popping out in the new building, people misses this resto. This is my third time in this restaurant and they haven't changed. They're still as good since my first visit. Our usual first course is the Mezedes (spreads swerved with breads). My personal favorite is the Melitzanosalata (roasted eggplant spread). I love the tartiness of this dip that is combined with the nice earthy, smokey eggplant. Tzatziki (cucumber, carrots, and yogurt) It's refreshing and clean. I'm not a fan of cucumber, but when it combines with yogurt, it work wonders. Hummus (chickpeas with tahini) is creamy with a hint of lemon acidity. I just prefer a stronger tahini flavor in it, but its really good. Bourou Bourou is a nice, simple, hearty vegetable soup. It is similar to minestrone, its light and flavorful. Arni Me Kritharkia (Orzo with Lamb Meatballs). Orzo cooked in a rich, tomato based sauce with lamb meatballs. The rich tomato ragu blends well with the lamb meatballs. It's a very rich & flavorful meatball pasta. Pastitsio is their version of lasagna, instead of sheet pasta, tube pasta is used. It's simple, yet flavorful pasta dish. Rich, meaty tomato sauce and bechamel on one side. The better thing about this is the sauce are served and overflown on the sides. So we can scoop as much sauce as we can. Chicken Souvlaki, my personal favortie. Marinated large cut chicken fillets, skewered with vegetables and grilled to perfection. The chicken was marinated that produced a moist, flavorful meat. It's not dry as how we expected it. Galaktoboureko is basically a custard pie with phyllo pastry on top. It is similar to a cheesecake, but its yogurt custard with a nice, crusty phyllo on top. It's smooth and creamy complimented by the honey that added sweetness to this dessert. Kos is one of my favorite Greek restaurant in QC. There isn't much restaurant that serves authentic Greek cuisine. Every bite just brings you closer to Greece. #TheFoodCrawlers #OngsFoodprints #TheLostDiego

It has even surpassed my ability to think and eat rationally. My fiancé can attest this. When the craving for Greeka's Caesar salad hits, there's just no stopping me from getting it. Like a single-minded Beagle determined to get that food on the table! Any argument, any objection, any other attempt to sway me to go somewhere else is FUTILE. F-U-T-I-L-E. I MUST HAVE MY CAESAR SALAD WITH CALAMARI!! But it's just Caesar salad, for God's sake - I hear your judging thoughts, Ms. Caesar-Salad-Know-It-All. And to you I say, IT IS NOT JUST CAESAR SALAD. It is a bouquet of greens drenched in thiiiiick Feta-based dressing, so-good calamari wedged in between every leaf and generous Parmesan strips adding that extra oomph. Miam miam miam. Its 2 floors with plenty of seats upstairs. Good for small party or a gathering with friends and family. The service is a bit slow but im noticing a trend recently when it comes to service. You have to be really aggressive and tell them what you need.... politely of course. There's no need for diva rudeness. Lol. As for the menu, its family style. Sharing is encouraged. The portions are huge... a bit pricey but totally worth it. No lunch menu peeps so order big and splurge. I noticed everyone getting the lamb and we decided to get the 2 lamb wrap with 3 sides (700+). Its good for 2-3 ppl.... I say its good for 2 ppl and it comes with 4 tortilla. I wish it was pita instead. It wouldve been perfect. A tortilla wrap in a greek restaurant... hmm. We asked for extra wrap (100+) and it was a bit tough. lost a star there. However, the lamb was perfectly roasted and well seasoned. It truly melts in your mouth. You guys totally need to try it. For my sides i had grilled vegetable salad(zucchinni, green pepper, and egg plant topped with feta cheese), eggplant dip, and sun dried tomato hummus. I never had sun dried tomato hummus. Im usually a hummus snob since i like my hummus lemony with lots of garlic. However this isn't bad. Well seasoned... not too salty. Its not smooth. Its somewhat chunky. Still really good. Its a must try! All in all i had a great experience. A slow start with a few oopsies but the lamb made up for it. Delish. Will i come back.... theres a possibility.
