Given its location, it's hard for this place to not to be touristy. I only had dessert here. All I can say is that Mozart Torta was absolutely delicious. Perfect place for a short break between visiting the Hofburg palace and the museum district. The waiters were more attentive than most I experienced in Vienna. Also, reliable free wifi! I wouldn't be able to find my way home without it XD.

Iced Schokoccino. Cooled Chocolate Mocha. €6,5. It was great.

This place has a great variety of desserts to choose from. Whether it be a banana split or your choice of many pastries. This place will not disappoint you. And if so, perhaps just a gambled choice of something you haven't have. Even so I'm sure you'll be pleased with their quantity and most of all their quality. I started with an Iced Schokoccino. Cooled Chocolate Mocha. €6,5. It was great. Especially if you're like myself and prefer without ice and it still be cold. I do so for the reasoning of the drink not being diluted and getting more for your money. I really dislike places that will your glass full of ice then pour your drink. Giving you approximately 1/4 if that of the drink itself. Let alone how watered down it'll be. Next was a Kardinalschnitte. Not sure how to pronounce it but it was good. €4,90. Last but certainly not least was a Waldbeer Stanitzel. Wildberry Mousse Waffle Cone. It was Fantastic. €5,60. I highly recommend this place especially the Wild Berry Mousse Waffle Cone.

It feels like an obvious tourist cafe, but giving them kudos for having free wifi. Had the melange which was one of the better ones I've had in the city so far. The sacher torte was good, but not mindblowing. It's not as dense as Cafe Central, more moist than Oberlaa, and was actually better than the slice we had at Cafe Sacher (maybe it was an off night for them). It's really nice to sit outside and people-watch, but you start to understand why locals get tired of the tourists. There weren't that many smokers while we were there, which was really nice. You also don't have to worry about the smell of horse manure wafting over from the grand entrance, so that's another bonus.

When you are walking around the Hofburg Palace visiting the Sisi museum or waiting for the guided tour of the Spanisch Riding School this is a good stop. There is a nice terrace and inside looks also comfortable. Café Hofburg has a good choice of food and different pastries. I had here a melange with Apfelstrudel and whipped cream, which was OK. This café is from the same group as café Landtmann, café Mozart, café Museum... The service could be better, when I was there 3 different waiters asked for my order and the order was brought in 2 parts. The location and the free WIFI is a plus. However there are better places in Wien.

Delicious goulash!

For my 100th review on Yelp, I thought I should pick a place completely awesome that I can go to…read moreoften because it is near where I live ... inotherwords a top-notch local hangout. With those thoughts in mind then I can only be thinking of the good old Cafe Rüdigerhof. This is one of the best chill spots in Vienna .... well actually maybe in all of Central Europe. When you think of Vienna ... and being in a cool-looking place with atmosphere .... and talking with friends ... and enjoying some tasty food and a good beer or wine ...just totally chilling - the Rüdigerhof is made to order. The Rüdigerhof has both an inviting interior and a super Schanigarten for warmer days & nights. The building it is located in is a Jugendstil landmark by the architect Oskar Marmorek. And then there's the food - a selection of tasty dishes from the classic Viennese Cookbook at very reasonable prices. I especially love to go there in the winter and get a warming Gulasch soup. There are rooms for smokers and non-smokers. The smoking room is the best because everyone stays late in this room and it has more of a buzz. It just feels more like a Viennese café. The non-smoking room is not bad - it's just smaller and not as cool. Anyway, I'm lucky that Café Rüdigerhof is so close to where I live. Everyone should have such a place in their neighborhood!

One thing my wife and daughter wanted to do in Vienna was to try the local cake, the Sachertorte…read more There are a few apparently famous venues for this (and a slew of other places too). Gerstner is a long-standing bakery with a few locations (including at the former summer palace). They had a shop relatively near our hotel, so we stopped in early during the trip. If you are facing the State Opera House, Gerstner's is on the right across the street. Note that there is also some as or more famous outlet for cakes behind the Opera House also, but they appeared to have a line when we walked by. At Gerstner's you enter at street level where they have a dessert counter with displays. You can get a slice to go here. However, if you want more of the full experience, you can go upstairs (they have an elevator as well). A wide curving staircase gets you to the rather small 2nd level (the first floor, in local parlance). There are some tables here, but it has the air of a bookstore coffee shop. We opted to continue up to the next floor. Here, there is a dark hallway where you approach the host stand. There was one couple ahead of us and they got seated quickly. I think they had a bar as well as dining, so they ask which you want. We just wanted dessert, so they walked us past the bar. This floor has high ceilings and palace-like decoration. The vibe is definitely 'special' but they don't charge extortionate rates for it, which was nice. We were shown to a small table in the main dining room. I think you could see part of the Opera House out of the open windows. Two of us got coffees and we all split a Sachertorte. We enjoyed it, but everyone agreed that it was a bit dry. Maybe the Viennese don't go for moist cakes. They do have other items on the menu and I think you can get a regular meal here (schnitzel, salads, etc.). However, we visited around 2:30 p.m. on a weekday, so we just wanted the cake. The bill was reasonable, and we all agreed that this was a worthwhile experience.
