I've passed by this place a million times, but tonight was my first night going inside! It's just across from Hanes Park and would be a great snack after an evening stroll! The young man that was working was friendly and greeted me when I walked in. He asked what he could get for me, but he didn't offer any samples. I haven't had gelato post-covid but I'm not sure if samples were an option. If you've ever been to a Gelato shop, the ambiance of this place is exactly the same. One small table inside and one outside for customers to enjoy. There were about 8 Gelato and 2 sorbet flavors to choose from. I selected a small cup of the toasted almond. Cute place! As long as I've lived here this was my first time stopping in: we came after dinner and there were a few other people there. Small seating area and a few flavors to choose from: we both got pistachio and were taken care of immediately and with a big smile from the woman at the counter! Nothing but good things to say about Cafe Gelato! The same lovely lady has been making this authentic gelato in West End for probably close to 20 years now. One of my personal favorites is the coconut. The flavors in the gelato are so fresh and don't taste fake at all. The creaminess is absolutely unparalleled. Cute little cafe where you can see all the gelato right as you walk in. Great selection of flavors. Pretty much all of the fruit flavors are vegan so that's a plus! By far my favorite place to get Gelato. Cafe Gelato atmosphere is small but very cozy and relaxing. I also favor the color choice of the setting because it's super appealing to the eye. There are various selections including VEGAN options (for my vegan friends out there). The taste was fresh and wasn't overly sweet. You're able to combine two flavors and she also offers waffle cones (I'm not sure if the cone is vegan but I got it for decoration lol). I also talked to the owner and she was very delightful, polite and welcoming. She also created conversation surrounding my vegan lifestyle which I felt comfortable discussing because I mean being vegan is awesome. I mentioned this because normally you get to places and they check you to complete the transaction and move on with their tasks. However, she didn't and made me feel good about choosing this location. So for anyone looking for fresh gelato this is the place to go! You won't be disappointed at all! read more

I am not going to say we moved to the West Highlands to be closer to Cafe Gelato, but I will say that it is an amazing benefit of living near Hanes Park. We love the gelato so much that at the start we would always order mediums, then feel too full after we finished them. Solid gelato--A few friends from school and I were here on a Friday afternoon to relieve stress after our first quiz. The store itself is small--little seating inside, one table outside, so we brought our gelato to Hanes Park across the street. Parking immediately in front isn't great because of busier traffic, so I'd recommend parking in the nearby neighborhood. I sampled peach and mango and ended up ordering the latter. Small size was $3.75 with tax, which is pricey in my opinion. I thought the flavors were refreshing. If they offered non-fruit sorbets, I would visit more often. read more

This place is great. The owner was very friendly and was quick to provide great service. Many great flavors to choose from and when I was not able to choose she suggested combining two in my bowl. BINGO! I selected hazelnut (my standard) and pistachio. Perhaps the best gelato I ever had. An earlier Yell review stated she only takes cash but this in no longer accurate. She does take plastic. While I did not have a glass on this visit she also serves wine. The shop has a lot of character with indoor seating and a small table on the sidewalk for outdoor seating. I am already planing a return visit with friends. I also like the fact that she has a separate bin to place your used bowls so they are able to be recycled. Delish!! read more

Walked in at 5:02 with my son and wife. The doors were open but when we walked in the service rep rudely said "we closed at 5:00." Gelato was still out. I have been to Cafe Gelato on a few occasions now and it never disappoints! It is located in a very small storefront on the main strip area of West End. They typically have a good and ever changing selection of flavors and will let you sample any of them before you make your choice. A couple of my favorites are the Banana and Blood Orange. If you can't make up your mind they are also glad to mix flavors! Three different sizes of cups are available and they always pile up the gelato so you get a lot more than you would expect for each size! The cafe does not have too much seating but there are a few seats both inside and out. The outside seating is a nice place to sit and enjoy the sunshine while watching the cars and people. My husband, friend and I have had gelato all over the world...and for a period of time, seriously researched opening out own shop...that's how much we love it! We were excited to try Cafe Gelato after lunch. Gelato is different from ice cream in that it's got a lower butterfat content (many don't use cream at all) is serves at a lower temperature so the flavors don't get lost on a fat-coated frozen tongue, is lower fat in general, and has less air so it's creamier. The shop is small and the gelato case only hold about 10 pans of product. There were only about 6 flavors made the day went. After sampling the banana and fig flavors, I got the fig and coffee, my husband the Nutella and fig, our friend, the Nutella and Lemon. Overall, the texture us very good, smooth and consistent, my coffee had a few pieces of icy coffee in it though not enough to deter me from eating it. The flavor isn't as intense as other gelateries which is unfortunate. I still give CG 4 stars for their friendly service, in-house made product, and extreme creaminess and appropriate prices. Work to concentrate the flavors more would really make it stand out from the pack. read more

I came here on a Sunday and had a scoop of caramel (with salty pretzel pieces) and nutella, while my friend had the zesty lemon. The gelato was smooth, creamy, and the closer to my beloved Italy than I thought I could ever get in Winston. You could tell that it was made with love. Yes, they have fewer than about 10 flavors at any one time and seem to make just one batch of each flavor at a time, so they run out during the day -- but the simplicity of the place is what makes it such a gem. This little cafe is tiny and cute. I've never been when there isn't a seat available, but it is a little shop. The gelato is amazing! I see people complaining of the prices, but they are silly. This is not gelato bought in a bucket from Costco. The owner hand makes everything you will eat from here. Fresh new flavors everyday that are very inventive and seasonal. Thankfully she gives free samples or I would've missed out on many yummy flavors. She mixes flavors I wouldn't normally even try, but so glad I have. Remember to bring cash, one time I didn't have any on me and my gelato bubble was bursted. It was sad. It's also in a convenient location if you want to do some consignment shopping.
