This is a much needed change from "fast" style English Cuisine. When you're there, be sure and try the Hog & Beef burger (it melts in your mouth) and the Craft Pilsner... SO GOOD !! Even though the prices are very reasonable, there's an upscale feel that takes you away from the grungy bar food scene... The staff is extremely cheery (unlike their French counterparts) and you're sure to have great service and a great time. When you stop by, be sure and ask for Andrew. He's the manager, and FULL of great information about Bordeaux if you're looking for something to do while you're in town.

I was there 'cause I liked it in the first place right? 3rd time (I guess I wanted to make a point): the whole team was doing their thing while I was .... hmmm... acting like a client. The climax was reached when I asked for a fork and a knife to eat my chicken wings (small bites). The waitress shouted out loud all over the place (in English) to the waiter "how stupid that was! First time in HER LIFE she heard such a silly thing"!!! . Glups. All in one: the waiter understood in a glimpse that I heard AND GOT what she meant. The rest of the meal was all embarrassing smiles or some "tout va bien" (with probably some muttered "at some point, she will finish her meal, pay and leave, so let's keep it smooth"). Even if I am craving for English food, I will stick to other places for the reasons here mentioned. Plus I will NOT recommend them for the same reasons.

We ended up doing a tasting at Château La Dominique in the morning so the best way to end it was to have lunch at La Terrasse Rouge since it is right next door. La Terrasse Rouge is an architectural marvel in the middle of the vineyards. Its sleek modern deep ruby red walls rise out of the ancient vines and provide an incredible juxtaposition of the modern wine tourism industry and the traditional growing methods. The restaurant itself is rooftop and provides amazing 360 views of the vineyards in St. Émilion. You get a great view of Château Cheval Blanc's modern facilities next door which are impressive and warrant a visit next time. We made reservations in advance for 12:30 during the week but we probably didn't need it that early since we were one of the first tables sat. We ended up going with the lunch tasting menu and enjoyed a bottle of Grand Cru which we bought during our tasting. The bread in France was all spectacular and here was no exception. They brought it out with some creamy butter and an amuse bouche of seared tuna. Next we had a cheese plate which was to die for. The cheeses ranged from mild and sweet to strong and bitter and all were delectable. The fennel and duck soup was awesome, one of my favorites for sure. My main was Hake (fish) in a squid ink risotto which was pretty good. The wife's curry legumes were also great. We ended with some eclair which was delicious and some traditional Bordeaux canales which I was not impressed with. Overall this was a very enjoyable meal mostly due to the incredible scenery. It was pretty leisurely and we hung out for a while after lunch to enjoy the wine and some beverages. I would definitely recommend a meal here if you are in the area as it is provides some unique views of the area.
