From the impeccable, friendly, bilingual staff to the spot on cognac cocktails and wine to the fresh unending piles of seafood, this restaurant was outstanding. I came with a large group of about 10 people and we had a gorgeous table all set out for us along the windows overlooking the river. It was evening but surely during the day this view -and same from the tables from the patio- are stunning. We had foie gras, salad, and various entree dishes before the seafood platters arrived. Not knowing what we were in for, we all gorged everything. Then they came... these massive platters of what must have been 10lbs of seafood each. Langoustines, crabs, small fried shrimp, large prawns, cockles, clams, and more. It was truly a sight to see! Three of these platters were ordered for the table and though we did as much damage as we could, there was just no way to finish it all. But we sure did try! I can't wait to visit Cognac again and will absolutely never make my way back to the region without stopping in here for the best seafood platters ever.

It was a rainy, gray day while we were out walking and found Coq d'Or at 33 Place Francois 1er for lunch. What a delightful restaurant. We sat in a corner window overlooking their personal fish market and the square outside. The menu was excellent and we ordered oysters on the half shell, duck salad, steak and washed it down with a draft of local beer. With his umbrella, my husband grabbed the friendly staff and danced to "singing in the rain". They played music from the 40's and 50's throughout the restaurant. It's simple fare beautifully executed in a bar / restaurant space.
