Cafe Falk is a Viennese classic in the far north of the city. This cafe founded in 1928 stands proudly on the other side of the Danube River in what we call Trans-Danubia. Perhaps it is most famous for being open 24 hours 365 days a year - yes if you need a meal at 3 AM on Christmas Eve ... Cafe Falk is there for you. Well for me , Cafe Falk is a little bit far away so I prob won't be eating there in the wee hours of morning ... but I can enjoy it every once in a while at more normal eating times.
My most favorite dish at Cafe Falk is a dish that is too rarely seen on Viennese menus. And that is 'Putengeschnetzeltes!' Well it is a mouthful to pronounce ... but fortunately it is a tasty mouthful. This hearty turkey stew is extremely flavorful and is served with small spaetzle noodles. A Poysdorfer wine accompanied it perfectly. There are both smoking and non-smoking dining rooms at Cafe Falk as well as a music venue upstairs and a keller below. Service reminds me of a diner in the northeast of the USA - the wait staff especially know the wishes of their many regulars.
Cafe Falk is located on no obvious tourist route but it is conveniently situated right next door to the U1 underground line. For good Putengescnetzeltes, it's well worth the trip! read more
