The interior of the cafe is like a walk back in time with ornamental designs and rich wood panels framing the main bakery counter space. Mauri was recommended to us by our concierge as a place where locals go, and he was not wrong. We went twice during our most recent stay in Barcelona for morning pastries, little sandwich and some of the strongest cafe in town. They do have a system for ordering during breakfast that took us a little bit of time to figure out. Essentially you walk into the bakery space and order your baked goods and other food. You then take the food and find a table inside or on the outside patio. You also get a little plastic card which stores your order. NOTE however that the prices for eating on the patio are higher than if you sit inside. I do not know why. Once you find a table, a server will ask you for your drink order. She will then take your plastic card, update it with your drink order, and then return with your drinks. Once you're ready to pay, you take the card to the cashier and she will ring you up. It's all very efficient once you get the hang of it! The food, from the sandwiches to the rich pastries, was excellent. We also purchased some chocolates for the road and were happily impressed with their quality. They are open until 11PM for dine-in dinner service so you can come here most any time before or after shopping along the Passeig de Gracia. What a gem of a place!

During the last 8 months, I have been purchasing Ethiopian Mocha beans from Tostaderos Bon Mercat and have been very satisfied. The beans are always freshly roasted....I always ask the date! And, for me, it's a great bean for a shot of afternoon espresso or a morning cappuccino or latte. If you've tried 'the usual suspects' and are still searching, you should give Tostaderos Bon Mercat a try.
