I spied lots of yummy looking jams and preserves, as well as a range of crackers filled with herbs like thyme, sage and cracked black pepper. The front of the shop is a cheese counter and a place to pick up coffees and paninis. The owners are definitely on to a winner here- Thames Ditton does not have a deli, so this is most welcome. I just wish that they had bigger premises to play with - when these babies get bigger they are going to need more floor space!

Salads: my wife and I split a "Chili Chicken salad" with avocado, sweet peppers, hamoulli cheese, shaved carrots and a light dressing. The chicken was tasty with a slight kick and the cheese was rich but not overpowering. My daughter got a salmon salad with avocado that was similarly tasty and healthy. Sandwich: We got an Italian panini with prosciutto, mozzarella, lettuce, pesto, avocado on a ciabatta roll. The roll was toasted (nice) but the cheese not really melted, which would have been nicer. Still, a very tasty and healthy sandwich. Finally, our 6-year old ordered pancakes with blueberries from the kids menu and was very happy dipping into maple syrup and coloring his menu. Our family tends to make lots of special orders ("avocado on the side, dressing on the side, pesto on the side,....") as we like to share and have different tastes. Our waitress got them all correct the first time and didn't make us feel badly at all. In addition to our great food and nice service, the menu had probably 2-3 items we each wanted but didn't order so we'll definitely go back. There are a number of Italian restaurants on High Street in Pinner, but this one has a light and airy atmosphere that set it apart from its compatriots. It looks to have been very carefully renovated, with a clean and organic look, and lovely bathrooms. We did not have to wait to be seated. My partner and I ordered a Three-Pastas-for-Two-People tasting menu, which came to 21 pounds even -- not bad considering that individual plates of pasta range from 7.5 to 11.5 and the term "tasting menu" is in a way decieving because all three pastas are full size. We selected the Penne Arrabiata, which was fantasticly savoury with Kalamata olives and capers and just the right amount of oil (often this dish is too oily!). We also enjoyed the special Penne with Zucchini and Fried Spinach Balls -- I know it sounds odd, but we were intrigued and this dish was surprisingly delicious! The Porcini mushroom pasta, while good, was outshone by the excellence of our two other selections. I'm Italian and cook my own Italian food, so my standards for Italian restaurants are unduly harsh, and I actually really enjoyed everything and would certainly return. I estimate only 15% of Italian restaurants I try reach this mark. Eagerly looking forward to dessert, my partner ordered an Italian hot chocolate which was excellent and on the lighter side with a good head of foam. I picked the compelling sounding Bicerin -- you recieve three little pots which contain espresso (your choice of beans), thick Floretine drinking chocolate, and cream. This was also my ploy to also try the Floretine drinking chocolate which my partner worried might be too intense, though fear not, because it was amazing and would be what I ordered next time. I'm not the biggest fan of say, Cafe Mocha, so this didn't radically change my mind about the combination of coffee and chocolate the way I hoped it would. But I did have fun playing with the ratios and experimenting, so I think it's an excellent way to see if anything could change your mind about that combination. From the bakery section, my partner had the deep chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream (you may add a scoop of ice cream to any bakery selection for I believe another 1 or 2 pounds) and I had a plum tart. I'm embarrassed to admit I find cream products like custard or, well, cream, slightly intimidating so I deeply enjoyed that the plum tart was simply plum and pastry without any sea of unknown gloopy dairy. The cake was deliciously chocolatey without being overwhelming, which was important since we were having warm chocolate drinks. The service, while initially seeming to be about one person understaffed (it's actually quite a large establishment as you start walking towards the back) bounced back as who I assume to be the manager stopped by our table and helped us with our desserts. He was very friendly and attentive. Technically, my review is a rounded up 4.5, because there are a few nitpicks. Everything is hard surfaces and hardwood, and the tables are packed quite densely in there, which means quite a bit of noise if the restaurant is busy. Secondly, while I believe the food is good enough to warrant the price, it doesn't give you the swelling feeling of "great value" -- just "fair value." They have special menus for things like Christmas, and also have a little shop up front along with their bakery that sells a variety of tasty tidbits and coffee. I'll definitely return!

On the day I was there, Bea herself was expediting (she's certainly a demanding boss!) so I had high hopes. I ordered the ranch chickadee and a small sweet potato fries, and a Coke. The food came really, really quickly - alarmingly quickly. Unfortunately it was to the detriment of the sandwich. The chicken was cooked through and hot, but as you can see from the photo, it was a bit insipid looking. The beef bacon wasn't even warm, which was a shame, and only one small piece. However, my sandwich tasted okay, and the sweet potato fries were probably the best I've had. I didn't like the little plastic baskets - I always feel that they're not cleaned properly, and they're hard to eat out of. We want plates! I put up a little video because the table seriously vibrated every time someone walked by (which they did a lot). It was to the point of distraction, honestly. I hope once the floor 'settles' in that the shake is dampened. I was on my own, and I couldn't get anywhere near finishing my food. It's one of my main criticisms of these kind of places - the sides are best shared, so I waste a fair bit of food. My meal, with a tip, was nearly £20 - holy moly. I do want to go back and try the country fried steak, the biscuits and gravy, and the sloppy joe. But I think I'll have to wait till payday!

The USA flag on the wall promotes that this is a Soul Food restaurant. But what was really nice was the quirky decor, from old newspaper wall paper to fairy lights to animal horns on the wall. Even the toilet was designed to have a tin bucket for a sink. On paper it sounds nuts but actually works really well in person. As for the pancakes there is a choice of plain, blueberry, strawberry and chocolate chip. I couldn't decide between strawberry and chocolate chip so they allowed me to have half and half. The fresh strawberry's are stewed in a hot sauce then added to the pancakes. It was ok but I wish I had some uncooked strawberry's too as the cooked ones were in a weird place of soft on the outside and hard in the middle. The chocolate chip pancakes again just ok. On the plus note the pancakes did come with fluffy fresh vanilla pod cream. I'm not a pancake person so they didn't taste amazing to me. My friends unfortunately also felt the same way. The staff were very friendly but the service lacked a bit when the waitress didn't offer the drinks menu. I had to ask for it but then she didn't come back to get our orders. In the end I spotted a waiter bringing a bottle of water to another table and asked him to bring one over to us. It's a shame as the bar options looked interesting but I found out not all the drinks options for hot and soft drinks are on the menu. The venue does have wifi, the waitress gave me the password but it wouldn't work properly. I managed to check in on Yelp then it gave up. Overall the venue looks cool with the quirky decor and I always like the idea of an open kitchen so you can check out how the food is being prepared. The other soul food options people were ordering looked interesting but judging on the pancakes alone it was quite disappointing to eat. Let's hope the restaurant does some fine tuning on the food and service at least as it's not a bad place to hang out.

The menu could offer a bit more choice, but keeping it short means you will get fresh food everytime so you cant have it all. Service is prompt and friendly, and they make a super cup of coffee to help finish off your meal. Reasonably priced too - will definitely return!
