Friday night in windsor.. most restaurants are packed out and without a reservation you havn't got a hope... which is why i was surprised when we turned up here for our 8pm reservation to discover we were the only people there... which sadly was how it stayed throughout the evening.
Whilst this did mean our service was somewhat 'attentive', they did a good job of not making us feel rushed or hassled.
The food is 'light', consisting of mainly smoked salmon, seafood platters and oysters...but fear not, they do do skinny chips... but as these take a little time i would recommend getting your order in for them as soon as you sit down before you peruse the menu, so they are ready with the rest of your meal. You WILL want the fries, as they are really yummy and crispy... and otherwise you would leave hungry!
The wine list is well balanced, and perfectly suited to the food they offer... the bottle (or two, if i am honest) of muscadet we drank was delicious, light and with just a touch of sparkle, and very reasonable at £21.
Its not a cheap place (but you wouldn't expect that of a seafood and oyster restaurant), but the service is friendly, personal and helpful, the food is fresh and the setting is lovely.
I think i shall save my next visit for a lazy summer lunch...but there will be a 'next visit' so that says alot! read more
