Fairly decent brunch and coffee. Menu is a bit limited and can feel a bit samey if you visit often.

This was going to be a 2-Star review partly because their Yelp advertisement says they are a 1-£…read moreresturaunt. Which they are not. Any place where an avocado-toast with poached egg costs £10 can not be considered a 1-£ resturaunt. In any case I ordered an oat milk latte and took a seat at the cafe window facing the street. A perfect vantage point for people watching. My oat milk latte arrived promptly served with a ceramic mug and saucer and spoon. The way a latte should. It was delicious. It was steamed to perfection and just the right temperature. Someone knows how to Barristas in this place. That's good. Nothing worse than a burning hot milk scorched latte except a lukewarm latte or barely warm latte. I was beginning to have a better feeling about this place after the latte. Once my Bacon Butty arrived with poached egg and Siracusa sauce I took a bite and had to admit their food was delicious. I could not in good conscious give them a two star over their price. After all perhaps they did not put in the 1-£ price for their food. Overall it did make up for the fact that I came in looking for the avocado toast and didn't get it (because I can't justify spending $15 American dollars on toast, an egg, and avocado) and it did indeed. I enjoyed the mint water which I thought was a nice touch. I also enjoyed people watching out of the window. I think the only things keeping me from giving this place a 5-Star was that the signage was not easy to spot walking off the street and the interior was a little bit dirty (needed some sweeping and counter cleaning etc). It is dog friendly if you are into that. I'm not personally. Don't really care for animals being in places where my food is served. Other than that it was a good experience. If I am in the area I will try this place again and see if a fresh perspective might change my experience.

And with a name like 'F…read moreMondays,' there's no way I could pass up an opportunity to try a cafe that proudly gives the middle finger to Mondays, (as do we all, secretly, from time to time). The coffee is pretty good; not the best latte I've had, but certainly worth what you pay for it. They have a full roster of tea and Java, as well, including the famous cold brew that is finally starting to take off in this city. It's smoother than your regular latte, though, with a more mellow flavor. So, if you like full-bodied coffee, go with either a latte, Americano, or cappuccino. The food menu is pretty robust, with your quintessential coffeeshop pastries, including huge red velvet cookies and salted caramel brownies, as well as some healthy cafe favorites like toast with all the fixin's. The ambiance is really chill, and they even have an area out back where you can enjoy your meal, so while it's no LA-inspired hipster joint, you can definitely get some work done in peace.

I had the pleasure of eating at Station 26 a couple weeks ago for lunch on Sunday February 10. I didn't realize it was a cash only restaurant when I visited so I didn't get to try as many dishes as I wished to try. I am not gluten intolerant but my wife is, so I'm familiar with the options she's usually provided at restaurants. When I looked at the menu I saw dishes on there that I've never seen on other gluten free menus. The menu had a collection of dishes from countries around Europe that one might want but usually couldn't get as gluten free. I didn't choose one of those and ended up getting the Duck Confit and it was wonderful. The duck was well cooked and the sauce was delicious. The menu also had a nice variety of gluten free desserts, but I didn't get to try any of them. The restaurant can be a little difficult to find if you're not familiar with the area. Please see the images I've added for getting to the restaurant.

They are clearly proud of what they have achieved here and it really shines through in their demeanour. I felt the food was slightly hit or miss. The nicest thing we had was the tomatoes with whey vinaigrette and ricotta. The tomatoes actually tasted like tomatoes! The smoked trout was lovely although the dish's flavours were either fish or onion. It needed some acidity to bring it to life. The cabbage was fine too but you really need to work cabbage to make it shine. I liked the grilled aspect to the dish but the flavours fell a little flat. I did like the panelles. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. The presentation needed a little work and a different dip than ketchup would have made the dish more than just a fancy variant of chips and dip. All that said, we had a really nice visit. You can sit outside on a nice day and just enjoy the energy of Pop Brixton. It's fun! Super staff!

The place is above a bar and looks like a converted flat. Nothing fancy, just cozy and comfortable. From beginning to end, we were so happy. Even the bread and butter was delicious! Our table treats included kale chips, a dried meat with some sweetness and spice, and red beets on crunchy crackers. My descriptions aren't doing justice to the sophistication and care of the preparations, but these bites were more than pleasing and I could have eaten 10 of the kale chips. It's a good thing I didn't, because everything else that followed was delicious as well. The first course was a deconstructed fish "taco." The fish was kind of ceviche-like, and the clean fish flavor blended so well with the other flavors, including lime and jalapeno. There was an intermediate course not on the menu: a pâté with flat bread and a mustard sauce. Every aspect of this was delicious. The main course was smoked grouse, and it was perfection. The texture was so tender, and the smoky flavor was amazing. Perhaps the highlight of the meal was dessert: a sweet corn tart with popcorn ice cream. Wow, the corn tasted sweet, but in a good way. You could really taste the freshness of the corn, and it went perfectly with the texture of the pastry and the contrast with the saltiness of the ice cream. We were really full at this point, but this dessert was so good we had to finish it all. Being gluttons, we also had to polish off the delicious petit-fours: raspberry canelé and peach popsicles. Yum! The two chefs and founders, Remi and Aaron, were also the servers, and service was very friendly and attentive. It was reminiscent of going to a dinner party, except with professional (and very gifted) chefs. I was blown away with the range of foods we had; the different types of ingredients and preparations. I hope they find a suitable permanent space, and maintain the friendly vibe. I can't wait to try their cooking again soon!

Let me just tell you…read morethat I spent 3 weeks in London drinking crappy coffee from every coffee shop recommended to a girl that LIVES for strong Cuban espresso style cappuccinos. So leaving South Florida for London didn't help my caffeine addiction at all. We originally took the tube to Brixton to go to a record shop my bf and I had been eyeballing for awhile and when we got there the record shop wasn't open yet. We really had no intentions of eating breakfast or grabbing coffee, as I had pretty much given up on the London coffee scene, but I'm more then happy that by chance we decided to sit down at Burnt Toast cafe and wait for the record shop to open. This little cafe is in the brixton village market surrounded by cute shops and the early morning hustle and bustle of Brixton. The seating is all outside as the inside is only big enough for the ovens, cook and the massive amounts of bread, but it's so lovely. There are cute tables set up with everything you need and the service was wonderful and quick. My boyfriend order a cappuccino and pancakes, and I ordered a double espresso and smoked salmon on toast with cream cheese and cucumbers. When the coffee arrived I tasted my espresso and immediately expressed to my bf "wow, this is the strongest espresso I've had in 3 weeks. Let me taste your cappuccino." I immediately ordered a cappuccino as fast as I could catch our server, because it truly is great coffee and very well could be the best in London. And just when I thought this place couldn't get any better, the food arrived. My food was way bigger then I thought and absolutely delicious, and my bf's pancakes were literally some of the best pancakes I've ever had. And I've eaten a lottttttttt Of pancakes. Long story short.... if you're in Brixton, go to Burnt Toast cafe!!!!!

The cafes location used to be know as the 'frontline' and is notorious for being the location of the Brixton Riots in the early eighties. Although this is still not a completely safe neighbourhood at night the street is now a mix of boutiques, cafes and restaurants and by far the best of these is Lounge. Run by local boy and former actor Maynard Eziashi (watch out for him in the beautiful Mr Johnson with Pierce Brosnan) the cafe used to be just a tiny room on the corner of the street. Now it is a large and fully licensed restaurant as well as a cafe with another branch in the nearby gentrified Balham. The cafe serves up homemade smoothies and shakes as well as full English breakfasts in the morning, ciabattas at lunchtimes and both exotic and traditional English food in the evenings all of which can be enjoyed by the huge windows facing out onto the extremely watchable street life of Brixton.
