2 al pastor, chicken, asada tacos
Uri K.

this restaurant is epic. super homie vibes and amazing service. i ordered al pastor, asada, and chicken tacos, and the al pastor was freaking delicious and definitely my fav. overall though, all the tacos where consistently gas and i would recommend this as one of the best mexican spots i've had in louisville.

2 beef and 1 chorizo taco

What to get: chorizo tacos Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: very casual, fast take out Wait: 0 mins (Friday 5PM for 1) Parking: small parking lot The Experience: When I thinking about Mexican food, it's usually the homemade meals that I'm craving. Don't get me wrong, I love all the new and exciting flavors these new places have to offer...but sometimes I just want a straightforward and damn delicious taco. No gimmicks. Cafe Aroma is my new guilty pleasure for Mexican food. Located on the way to Kroger, you have to keep your eyes open for the small driveway up to the small parking lot. Traffic only goes in one direction so watch out for the entrance! The place is located in what looks like a reconfigured portable or office space. The register is on your right as you enter, but you can also ask to sit at one of the probably 5 tables inside. You've got the Spanish news going on with a few of the family kids running around, so you know this is a family spot. Nothing fancy, but you're here to get some good food. Their menu doesn't have a lot of items, but everything is very cheap. $2 per taco. I ended up getting 2 beef tacos and 1 chorizo taco. It's topped with onion, lettuce, cilantro, then you can add the hot sauce (I definitely recommend doing this). The chorizo was by far my favorite, but they were all very good. So authentic, it makes me miss home back in California when I go over and eat at some of my friends' houses. I'm tempted to ask if they could make soups or tamales...but that might be stretching it haha. So now I finally have a place in Louisville, which serves authentic Mexican home-cooking. Good place for reference for anyone on the hunt for this exact thing ;)

As close to the meat as you can get without getting your eye wet.

Five Word Summary: Your Mexican Friend's Mom's Kitchen So picture this. you meet someone from Mexico and they invite you to their house for food. Then you show up at their house and the mom is juggling 3 things at once, children are at play and there are amazing smells emanating. Add to that a small grocery section, hispanic construction workers ordering that days special and the best traditional tacos and guacamole and you have this place. This is an amazing find! Who says food places need to have the traditional customer- owner transactional dynamic. Go, be family, watch children's shows as you eat tacos al pastor and Tamarindo juice. Afterward have a latin bakery item from a local Guatemalan baker and leave satisfied. Also if you need hair gel or cell phone accessories, they have that too. Grading Scale: out of 5, 1 is not very much, 5 is to a great extent Foodie Adventure rating: 5 Picky Eater rating: 3 Americanized: 1 Food Authenticity: 5 Food Quality: 4 Service Quality: 3 Value per bite: 5 Healthy Choices: yea Would I bring my mom?: Yes, to make up for not giving her grandchildren Would I bring my Drunk Friends?: Yes, but take it to go. Would I bring a Tinder Date?: Yes, if she or he is cool. Spicy Food Hub?: Yes, That red sauce THO!

I am obsessed with Mexican food! I'm not talking about Tex-Mex, swimming in red sauce and cheddar, nor am I talking about the ubiquitous bland, Americanized Mexican food. I like the real deal, and that's what Café Aroma offers. I'm a little embarrassed that this was my first visit: I have literally driven by Café Aroma 100 times. In my defense, you are not likely to happen upon Café Aroma. It is in one of a row of cute little matching gray cottages, set back from Brownsboro Road. By the time you notice the sign on the cottage, you have passed it, and "Café Aroma" doesn't exactly scream "Mexican Food!" Do yourself a favor and turn around: you won't be sorry. The owner is very welcoming and friendly. She speaks perfect English, hardly accented. The Café offers a very small menu, limited tacos, tostadas, burritos and quesadillas at very low prices. I ordered four tacos: one each of chicken, ground beef, pastor and chorizo at $2.00 each. I also ordered a glass of unsweetened iced tea at $1.00. The iced tea was good. Food is cooked to order, so the tacos took a little while to arrive. Each one was delicious, served authentically with two corn tortillas, chopped onions, a little finely chopped lettuce, and lime slices for squeezing on top. There also was a bottle of a delicious house made salsa. It was spicy and flavorful. Unlike the picture on the menu, my tacos had only a trace of cilantro. I didn't mind, and it's probably good news for you cilantro haters. Or, I bet you could also ask the nice lady to just leave it off. In the back there is a small store, with a few shelves of Mexican dry goods for sale. Café Aroma is less than a half mile from my place of business, so the nice lady is likely to see a lot of me!

Delicious tacos for $2 a piece! So worth it.

IF YOU ARE ON A DATE ASK FOR PEDRO!!!!…read more I was on a date at this restaurant and when we asked for a check, instead of just asking if we wanted to split the bill, he positioned himself right behind my date and mouthed me the question so we wouldn't have to split the check. This is the first time a server has not only realized that I was on a date, but actively worked with me to make sure it went as smooth as possible. We paid the bill, left, and I made sure I gave bro a 50% tip. I've worked in restaurants for 2 years now and I've never seen a server as amazing as Pedro. If you're reading this Pedro, just know I will forever be grateful for saving me. oh also the food was really good

I had been wanting to go for quite some time to try the Birria because I heard it is so amazing, and it really lived up to the Hype! Oh, did I mention they have the viral soft serve margaritas!?!?! I got the strawberry, it was so pretty, excellent presentation and absolutely delicious! I will say it was more like a dessert to me and I would have preferred to have it after my meal instead if before but that's just me. We got there between 6:30 and 7:00 and it was really busy, luckily our friends got there first and grabbed a table. They had already had a round of drinks while waiting on us but it took a while for anyone to come over to greet us or refill their drinks but again it was busy and everyone was helping everyone. We ended up splitting the birria platter and still had plenty of food to take home which we just ate last night as leftovers and were still absolutely fire!! I think the egg roll and quesadillas were my favorite over the tacos bc I love the melty cheese. I also ordered a small side of queso which was surprisingly a little spicy which I really enjoyed. They even surprised us when my BIL ordered a small margarita and it came out in a fish glass (see photo). It was so unexpected but also so cute at the same time ... it's really the little things like this that bring joy, okay? LOL This place was absolutely amazing and I can't wait to try it again.

We ordered the Trio of Guacamole and they were all fantastic. I ordered an Oaxaca Old Fashioned. The presentation was crazy. It smoked and bubbled. When we arrived we had a brief wait before we checked in, and were seated on the second level. Our server was excellent, our service was quick and he was always around without hovering. It was bitter cold outside so instead of my usual margarita ($14+) I opted for a beer ($6). We started with the salsa trio, one of my favorites with handmade assorted chips. It includes three salsas, somewhat spicy, sweet tomato and tomatillo - the spicy and sweet were my favorites. Next we ordered the tacos el carbon and carbon burrito - pricing is expensive! We both ordered our steaks medium rare. My tacos had a beautiful presentation, the meat came out on a skewer and smoking from the hot coals. All toppings were repeated on the plate. The steak was overcooked and tough though. Had a nice smoke to it, but very chewy. My husband enjoyed his burrito but wasn't the best he's ever had. They also had a mariachi band walk around but they had "tips" all over their instruments and clothes. Overall we had a nice meal but the price point doesn't equal the food quality.
