Late night dining options are scarce in Brisbane. Even "24-hour" places on Queen Street Mall close their kitchens at night, so it was exciting to find a cafe that truly is 24-hour, offering their full menu any time, day or night. Because of my business responsibilities, lunch often fell at 1 or 2 a.m., and you can only eat a McDonald's angus burger with beetroot so many times.
Cafe 63's menu items are nicknamed for famous people or places. My favorite dinner is "Romney Marsh": 200g of tender and moist lamb shoulder, served with sweet potato chips, mushrooms, gravy, and vegetables. I've also had and enjoyed the Lesley (Toasted Turkish open sandwich with mashed avocado, cream cheese, and smoked salmon), and the Bangkok (Thai beef salad) and PAB (prawns, avocado, and bacon). The gluten-averse members of my family appreciated the many options available for their dietary needs. The bread and dips made a nice snack, although there wasn't enough bread for the amount of dips provided.
The cafe has free wifi, and many of the indoor tables have nearby power outlets. There are newspaper and magazines available to read while you dine.
Service has always been prompt; the meals come sooner than I'd expect. Coffee is good, and the large takeaway size really is large ("venti"-sized). Parking is easy to find on Racecourse Road in the wee hours. read more
