Ambiance is great. Service continues to be terrible. The prices are high. Beware... a tourist trap.

Great location and decor. However if you don't enjoy waiting for food then I suggest elsewhere. Staff wasn't very fluent with English

Had a nice lunch on the outdoor patio. Wienerschnitzel was really good and ambience is great.

Wow! Definitely check this place out, well worth the trip across the bridge from Heidelberger and…read moreperfect if you are doing the Philosophers Path. A bit away from the tourist crowds, however this cafe was packed with locals and lots of university students. We popped in after the hike up and then down the path into town (great views at the top) after a blog recommendation of the city. The place is small but very cute with a bunch of small tables that can be grouped together (for 4 people), a high to for a bigger group and then some space at the bar on the side of the coffee bar. Over all it feels modern with creative art but still clean. Food ranges from breakfast to lunch. The menu is nice with 5-6 sweeter dishes, 5-6 savory dishes and then some soups and salads. There are a variety of coffee items, a bunch of tasty teas in huge glass mugs, juices and then seasonal drinks. We came for a late lunch and ordered warm drinks, the warm winter shakshuka, the fritters & the Guess Who's Back and some warm drinks! Everything was tasty and fresh. The sauce on the shakshuka was wonderful and had great flavor. The grilled cheese sandwich, Guess Who's Back, was huge, with crunchy bread and yummy caramelized onions and wasn't the typical over-gooey sandwich you usually think of. My fritters were great as a perfect lighter dish, with a side salad and smoked salmon and a great yogurt sauce to bring it together. Drinks were also good and the detox juice and fresh tea stood out. The staff was also very friendly and helpful with descriptions of the menu when you are struggling to choose. Can't say enough about this place and will be making a trip back on my next Heidelberger visit!

I don't know what breakfast/brunch spots are like in Germany as this was my only experience, but…read morethis was lackluster. I ordered the French breakfast. In retrospect it was the wrong choice. It comes with two slices of French toast (not very sweet, definitely not the same as US style French toast), a croissant, a crepe with chopped fruit inside, and some cheese with assorted jams. I was honestly kind of confused which jams etc went with which option, and sadly none of it tasted good. I actually traded 1 piece of French toast with my friend who ordered the healthy breakfast option for a bit of protein. The chai latte was mostly milk, very sweet with hardly any spice. My other friend ordered the omelette and said it was much better. It's a cute spot. No wifi. I guess this spot is trying to be a trendy brunch spot, but as someone from the US it didn't come close to the quality we have there. I wouldn't go again, but if I did I would try to order something more authentically German.

The fresh pressed orange juice is just the start, followed by a barista who knows how to make good coffee, a fresh basket of bread & the main meal. Everything we ate was delicious. The service is quick and friendly as well. Next time I'm in town, I'm coming here.

A must-stop for serious coffee lovers. Perfectly located in the heart of Heidelberg, Coffee Nerd…read morewas a standout experience. My coffee-snob husband absolutely loved it--which says everything. The coffee was expertly made, clearly artisan, and deeply thoughtful in flavor. We left with an excellent bag of beans and a new appreciation for just how good well-crafted coffee can be. Highly recommend if you care about quality and craft.

Something that tends to set Europe apart from the states is coffee culture. While you'll find great…read morelittle cafes sprinkled around European cities they aren't quite the same as the cafes in the US. In my opinion "coffee shops" as we tend to think of them here in the states have more of a coffee first focus, where there is a lot of emphasis on how the beans are ground, brewed, and enjoyed. The difference in Europe is that a European "cafe" tends to be more about sitting down to have a coffee and maybe enjoy a pastry or some bread. It's more of a place to visit and take in the ambiance or read a book and less of a place to seek out the best coffee. Just my opinion, but I find cafes in general in Europe to be really hit or miss on coffee flavor and quality. All of that being said, when visiting Heidelberg this past spring I woke up and in need of a good cup of coffee started searching Yelp for options. Enter Coffee Nerd. It fit my criteria as it had a good rating and was walkable from my hotel. I convinced my sister to get dressed and out the door we went. It was easy enough to find and is fairly centrally located - not too far from the historic part of town, but definitely more city center and likely caters more to locals than tourists. When we walked in the door it was like walking back into the USA. It had the clean lines and minimalist design of any hip coffee house I'd find back home, which oddly enough was somewhat comforting. The menu was very simple, but that was okay as all I really wanted was some cold brew. They did have cold brew, but being Europe they were not as accustomed to folks taking it to go so they put it in a hot to-go cup for me which kind of made me chuckle, but it tasted right and I was really grateful for the stop. Why four and not five stars? Pretty much because it really lacked options and I would have liked to have seen maybe a few house made syrups to choose from, and a more robust pastry case. All in all, if I had been staying in Heidelberg more days I'm sure this spot would have stayed in my rotation.
