This is the most wonderful place I can remember eating. We were looking for a place to have a late breakfast that wasn't just pastries (not that we have a problem with pastries). We saw a little sign by the Hôtel Mignon advertising Café Mignon. There are a few tables inside, but the place to go on a warm summer morning is around the corner, where there are three little tables in the shaded alley.
There were a mother and daughter (I'm guessing) working there. The daughter speaks amazingly good English, and she was the main person we worked with. They offer a complete brunch for €12. This includes salad (lettuce and tomato) with ham and cheese, an egg, a bowl of fruit (apricots were in season), homemade applesauce or yogurt (your choice), pastries, bread and jam. Oh, and also fruit juice and a hot drink (coffee, tea, chocolate).
For twelve euros! This was amazing. All of the food was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect - quiet and cool and out of the way. The people were so friendly, and from the way she talked I think the daughter made the applesauce and yogurt herself and was pleased to see us enjoying them so much.
We have one more day coming up in Avignon, and I am very tempted to return to Café Mignon. What a lovely place! It lives up to its name. read more
