If you're lured inside by this quirky view, which is enhanced by the ivy growing on the extension, you'll probably find a very crowded pub. You'll also notice a variety of patrons, from the old locals to young students sipping their brews. If you manage to find a spot, there's a variety of beers from which to choose. Most of them are uncommon, but you'll have to try hard to find that one true gem among them. Overall, Bonte Koe is a cute and cozy pub that's a good place for a night of beer and conversation, as long as you manage to find a spot. As this is not necessarily easy, you might want to bring a good pair of elbows. Drinks up!

There isn't much seating available, but when we went, it never got super crowded, there was just a steady crowd of some tourists and locals. We sat for a few hours and it was a nice spot to drink and relax. When it's warmer out, there are tables outside which are probably very nice! We got two toasters, essentially a normal panini, but with normal toast bread as opposed to panini bread. What's special is the cheese or homemade spreads used, quite simple but very tasty! Loved the 8% alcohol beer from Delft! Cappuccino and Latte we're good as well! For a dive bar looking place, I was very pleasantly surprised with the service, selection and quality of food. Don't get me wrong, it's not super fancy, it's just much better than I expected when walking in. I would definitely come back here again as well as recommend it to others, not necessarily for a full meal (though it was a full meal for my husband and I), but great for a small snack and a few drinks!

Due to the damage the city endured during the World War, they had to start anew. That's not to say there are no historic areas remaining. Quite the opposite, and one of the architectural gems is the Hotel New York, which served as the original headquarters for Holland America Line, which celebrates its 150th Anniversary as the oldest cruise line. The current hotel and restaurant also function as a small museum that you can wander through on the main floor. It is done subtly and tastefully, and takes you on a journey from a long time ago. I wanted to see this historic building and have lunch before continuing on my exploration of Rotterdam. Service was relaxed and friendly and professional. It is hard to put into words what I liked so much about this little neighborhood spot. I think it…read morewas the fact that it felt like I was going over to a friend's house for dinner. The fact that it was small and cozy created an intimate atmosphere. The lighting added to the intimacy making it a warm, serene refuge on a cold night. Being waited on by one of the two friendly people working the small dining area added to the aura. It made the experience more personalized, like we just walked into his house and he asked what he could get us from his kitchen to eat. "Come in, sit down for a while, warm up and let me get you something to eat and drink". It was as though the people there were having a relaxed, pleasant evening together and we were invited to join. The location also had something to do with the appeal as well. This was our first visit to city centre Delft. The narrow streets that lined canals replete with strategic lighting made this brick-laden city an absolute delight to wander. As an American, this place presented an ambiance unlike what we'd see at home. It was a step back in time in time and a step into everyday Dutch life. This somewhat off-the-radar city offers the type of character that you hope to experience as part of your travels. We visited at around 8 PM on a Monday. It was not at all busy and we were able to find a seat with no problem. The ambiance, as suggested above, was very inviting and quite relaxed. The menu for this restaurant was short but featured several creative choices with local twists (in different ways). My wife chose the Goat Cheese Salad, which featured a plentiful serving with nice greens along with other vegetables and nice add-ins such as pecans. I opted for the Indonesian-inspired Chicken Satay, which was served with fries and salad. Again, the serving was more than enough. We both were very happy with our dinners. My wife enjoyed a homemade lemonade to drink while I was quite satisfied with one of their red wines (Corte Ortone Brindisi). The final bill was €57.50, or €28.75 per person. Given the quality of the food and the overall experience, I thought this was a reasonable value. I would definitely try this place again if we return to Delft.
