The good bit: Cafe 1001 enjoys an unbeatable location on the Brick Lane side of the Truman Brewery, a spacious interior, plentiful outdoor seating and serves a mean mango juice. The bad bit: Cafe 1001's coffee and food leaves a lot to be desired. There is something distinctly European about 1001 and it's pretty much always buzzing. During the warmer months Cafe 1001 is great, if only because it has the most outdoor seating of any drinking hole within the Truman Brewery, making this cavernous cafe ideally located for a spot of people watching. That said, I've always been distinctly unimpressed by 1001's coffee. Which is a shame because 1001 is, an, um, cafe and if this aspect of this popular haunt's performance was improved it would be a shoo-in for a five star rating.

The lounge in this place is amazing. Its full of beat up sofas and the space is amazing. Its full of young lackadaisical people lounging around surfing the web and hanging out drinking the strong coffee and nodding to the beats. Its one of the only places in London that is filled exclusively with young people. On Wednesday night, there is a free jazz night, which is really good even if the musicians get steadily inebriated through the night. Its quite an eye opener if you've never been down to East London before. It like a microcosm of the culture on the eclectic and alternative Brick Lane.

On my last trip to London I was looking for a good place to get some work done and get some good food at the same time. This place was perfect for that. They serve great breakfast with various selections of eggs, veggies and pastries and there's plenty of table space and free wifi. The tables upstairs even have accessible plugs for charging your laptop. The atmosphere was laid back and quiet enough to think, and the music was uninterruptive. I ended up staying for hours, going from breakfast through lunch. The service was pleasant and efficient and I never once felt like I had to leave or buy more to be allowed to stay.

Well, today I was…read moredoing just that and it was then that I stumbled upon this branch of the small but mighty Taylor-Street-Baristas emporium. It was actually the buzz inside this place that attracted me most - dozens of dolled up city folks were patiently waiting for their lattes and cappuccinos, while soaking in the yuppy/hippy atmosphere of this space. In fact, I would go as far to say that this is a good mixture between the efficiency of Starbucks and the quirky authenticity of a coffee shops like Look Mum No Hands or St Ali. The stand-out experience for me was the bircher müsli. In fact, it was just like I love it: moist, fruity, & sweet! On the other hand, I was rather disappointed with the drip/filter coffee that they served, as it was quite bitter and off-tasting - hence only 4 stars. Overall I really like this place: there's ample seating and fantastic people-watching!

Nice and chilled vibe, not too loud, lovely friendly staff and the coffee really is something special. I'm not generally a fan of milky coffees but on a trip to oz my mrs made me try a "proper flat white" made by a friend of hers (one of the most talented and passionate baristas I've come across). It was amazing. The London versions I'd tried before had been crappy ersatz versions thereof...until I tried this place some months ago. Full bodied, creamy with just the right amount of bitterness. My regular coffee (about 3 a day on last tally) is an espresso, and i still believe that the italians can teach the worlds best hipster barista a thing or 2 about espresso (cappuccino, latté etc...) and the problem I've always had with these new-wave hipster cafs is that while they can often churn out lovely frothy milkshake-esque coffees, their espressos are disgusting, salty, up dosed/underextracted. None of that here. Nice, sharp and robust but smooth...and no saltiness.

It's an exquisite and well-restored piece of history…read more Initally, the idea of an exchange came in 1562. When merchant Sir Thomas Gresham (1519-79) established it, Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603) opened on 23 January 1571, and she granted it its 'Royal' title. The old structure had burned down twice. The current neoclassical style building was designed by Sir William Tite (1798-1873) in the 1840s. The long-term tenant was Lloyd's of London, an insurance market, for a century and a half. Now, the three-story-high, overarching glass dome provides the airy atrium with ample light, housing restaurants such as Fortnum & Mason, and high-end shops, including a Tiffany & Co. branch. Googling the oldest exchange, two answers turned up: ~ The Amsterdam Stock Exchange, founded in 1602 ~ The barter system was introduced by the Mesopotamian tribes around 6000 BC ... wondering why the London's Royal Exchange didn't make the list.

If the façade of the building looks familiar, it's likely because (like many other buildings around the world) it was inspired by the design of the Pantheon in Rome. The Exchange gets its 'Royal' title after Queen Elizabeth I opened the original in 1571. an exchange building is generally utilized for telecommunications or foreign currency. However, as a commercial building, exchanges date back to at least the 13th century. The building is one of London's top luxury shopping locations, and visitors to the city should definitely add it to their list of places to visit. The stores at the Royal Exchange are hand-picked to elevate the elegance and class of the building. The beautifully designed courtyard also makes it difficult to resist spending a fair amount of time here.

Sophia interacted with us loads and was great! The main issue was the food. We sent our order in WEEKS in advance and there were so many mistakes. We also never got half our desserts so they got the money for 15 dessert pizzas and we got about 4 boxed up. The brunch was listed as 12-4pm and we had plans immediately after. Our pizzas didn't come out until after 3pm and 4 of us still didn't get the right ones. Complete disaster and the staff trying to 'fix' the issue didn't rush to come up with a solution. It's not rocket science, just make the pizzas! One of the girls said 'we did make them but we gave them to another table'...ok so then fix your mistake. When they finally made them they STILL made 1 wrong! We also had one person in the group who doesn't drink and was told she'd have mocktails instead, which ended up just being really sugary juice that she couldn't drink. It's a shame because the drag acts were great.

I haven't been at a market though for ages and haven't have any arancini for longer - so I was happily excited to see the Arancini Brothers logo when I was killing some time looking around the shops at Liverpool Street station. I immediately went up the stairs into Broadgate and was rewarded with a tiny little shop with a limited menu - stew box, salad box, or wrap. I do think they did more but I was blinded by the arancini... I really only wanted a box of 4 arancini with their lovely garlic mayo but thought I'd counteract the starch with some salad and went for the salad box. £4.50 I believe, for 4 arancini and some basic - but tasty - salad. As I went late in the day and they were going to close soon, the girl behind the counter gave me a couple extra arancini. They were as good as ever, but as it was late they were a little on the hard side. However, they were still delicious and I didn't leave a scrap of the arancini. The salad was fine - a lettuce mix, topped with shredded carrot with chickpeas, and then some jalapenos and crispy onions. I'm definitely going to be going back soon during lunch time to get some arancini done up nice and fresh, and hopefully will be able to update this to the 5 star review I know they deserve when they're on point.
