Mike was the best!!…read more My husband and I had an amazing time out on the lake with him on his mudboat. He shared so much information about the environment and history, and was a wealth of stories. We had an incredible time. We also really appreciated him being flexible with the timing as we were there during a week with very cold temperatures, and we ended up going out on the water later than originally scheduled so it could warm up a bit. I had booked two tours with different operators, and Mike was easily the better one. We saw 10x more with him. Mike, we look forward to coming back and going fishing out there with you!

Upon arrival at the place, Mike greeted us outside. To our surprise, we got a completely private tour, which we especially appreciated in the setting of COVID. We walked back to the dock and boarded the platoon boat. Mike's boat was spacious and very comfortable with cushioned swivel chairs at the front so that we could get the best view of the scenery. Mike was patient and friendly. Because he is a local, he was able to tell us a lot of cool information about the history and the endemic wildlife in the area. He took us through the most scenic parts of the river, and we had a blast. Mike provides one of the few dog-friendly boat tours that I could find in the area, and I am so glad we chose him. It was a lot of fun and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

He was very courteous and easy to deal with, I live in Houston and our photo club wanted to come up to Caddo to see the cypress trees. Rich was very accommodating and made booking the trip easy. We met him about a half hour before sunrise and headed out in his pontoon boat. He positioned us in several spots to catch sunrise and as the sun got higher we toured a lot of the canals that snake through the cypress groves. Once back on shore we had the day to ourselves until about 4:30 in the afternoon when we went back out to take more photos and catch the sunset. In all we did 2 sunrise tours and 1 sunset which was more than enough to get some great pictures. I was a bit worried about being on a pontoon boat as to whether it would be stable for photography but it was perfect. There were 6 of us so 3 on each side of the boat and Rich maneuvered the boat so we could all get a chance for photos. I know there are a lot of lake guides on Caddo and I'm sure the are all good but I can highly recommend Rich based on our 3 tours this fall with him.

Overall experience was superb! Starting from our call, we didn't book ahead of time but they were able to get us a boat tour in an hour. Upon arriving, they greeted us kindly with a warm welcome. Our boated tour did last an hour, with the tour guide entertaining my stepdad with fun facts about the lake and its inhabitants. We were told that gators are rare to see especially during the day. And yet throughout our trip, we saw multiple great egrets, blue herons, one gator, and one ratsnake! We were astonished at how much wildlife we observed. The trip lasted an hour. It poured rain about 20 minutes after the tour ended. Truthfully had we postponed it, it could've ruined my Caddo Lake experience. I'm really glad the timing worked so well for us!

This bayou is part lake, part river, part pond and all of it amazing. We got super lucky that we came off the water just as rain began and a storm was forming so the tours after pits god cancelled. So we drove by and then made a call to see if they were still having one that day. It's pretty casual and you just show up at the time the tours start according to the website...but I always like to call places like that just to be sure. We waited on the front porch admiring the view A pretty kitty greeted us. A few others arrived while we waited. Then a friendly gentleman came outside and introduced us and welcomed us to the Grove. The experience was like being in a living storybook. The owner of the home, and tour guide...is the writer of several books on the history of Jefferson and ghost Stories--specifically the Grove. Each room of the house you learn of the families that lived there, the stories of the house, and the sightings of the friendly spirits. It's rather fascinating and very interesting. I wasn't one of the guests who saw anything, but I already know my mind is too busy to see the spirits...I am typically one who feels them. We really enjoyed the experience and the history. If any of it was made up, then the whole town is in on it because our horse and carriage ride later intertwined with what we learned at the Grove. Interesting town...interesting Texas history I never learned and few I missed out on it. Go check it out!! It is worth the visit!! Nothing to be scared about!!

Really enjoyed my stay at the Caddo Cabin. If you're looking for a quiet getaway off the beaten…read morepath, then this is your place. A friend and I spent three nights here over the 4th Of July weekend and we had a blast. The cabin was perfectly fine for two people, with a king bed in the bedroom and a pull out sleeper sofa in the living area. There was a tv with a few satellite channels and a DVD player with a few dvds. The tv is not a smart tv so you'll need to bring your own device like a fire stick if you'd like to stream Netflix etc... No issues with the internet. The kitchen is well stocked with everything necessary for cooking. There were a few basic spices and coffee was provided with various creamers and sweeteners. Large charcoal grill outside with the necessary tools, including a charcoal chimney. Bring your own charcoal. The water pressure was good and the a/c worked like a charm in the 100 degree heat. Spent a lot of time on the mosquito-free screened in porch, which had several seats and a powerful fan to keep us cool. Having access to Kayaks, and a dock to launch them from was a huge plus. We spent most of our time kayaking around Caddo Lake. The kayaks/dock are a short 3-4 minute walk to another home located directly on the water, which is also owned by the same owners of the Caddo Cabin. All of the kayaking equipment was in good working condition. A golf cart is provided, which is shared with a neighboring cabin. It was nice to have for going to the local stores / restaurants. Made several trips to Johnson's Ranch Marina, Caddo Outpost, and the Shady Glade restaurant. All of which I highly recommend. Very nice people. If you're looking for some good souvenirs, MeMaw's t-shirts is a great option with custom shirts and other souvenirs. Definitely hit up the Uncertain Flea Market, which is open on the 1st and 3rd weekends of every month. The only slight downside to the cabin is its proximity to the other cabin on the property. It is not very private if the other cabin is occupied. If you're looking for something more private, I'd recommend going with one of the other homes that the owners have available. For the price, though, this place can't be beat, and I was perfectly fine with the proximity to the other cabin given how much money we saved. The owners are very kind, and promptly responded to any questions we had during our stay. I fully plan on returning for another stay in the near future. This place really is a hidden gem.
