I had never been to Cactus Mart in the 10 years or so I've been around these parts. We went last season to get two desert willows and a mulberry, and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience. One of the gentlemen on shift was near the end of his shift but went ahead and showed us around, helped us pick out the trees we were looking for among the tremendous selection of climate-appropriate plants. I was shocked at the good deals they had going and their pricing was spectacular for the size of trees they offered. Prices were nearly double at the big corporate garden centers. After we picked them out, they scheduled us for delivery even though we were two towns away, and when he brought them, he was on time and unloaded them too. I let him know I was planting them myself, but he even gave me some tips on helping them survive. It's been a full season and the trees are still alive- in fact, the beautiful Mulberry has roared back to life from its dormancy. Really amazing plants, really amazing people. read more

Cactus mart is a place you have to stop off at when in Morongo Valley. They have a dig your own tiny cactus section for $0.79 which is a massive eye catching deal. They have a large variety of cacti for great prices. 5 cats on the premises, two of which are extremely friendly. Butch is the one usually at the counter and has such a calm but stately demeanor. Rusty was a bit skittish but so friendly once she warmed up. The staff here are so helpful for all your cacti needs. Come here for a great cacti deal and stay for the good company. We had a fabulous time here! From reviews and the low cost we were encouraged to dig and build our own cacti plant. In total with all the materials, I would say the cost came out to 7ish dollars. I also chose to buy multiple mini cacti for my project and the pot cost was about $3-4. The cacti and plant gardens are definitely worth exploring. Even if you do not want to build your own cacti pot, there are succulents and other plants available to purchase. Many are semi rare and worth buying from this location since prices aren't expensive and their pot collection is worthy! We've driven by this place so many times before, and finally stopped in for a visit this weekend, and were not disappointed. The team working there were so friendly, outgoing, knowledgeable and generally nice folks to chat with. Picked up a few new additions for our garden, got home and transplanted, and am so pleased at how healthy our new plants are, they're thriving. I love dropping in here when I have the time. First to look at succulents: this is the best selection of succulents in the Valley. Local cactus, exotic Euphorbia, aloes...they have them all. On top of that, this is the best place to get native plants for the garden. While other places sell hundreds of bougainvillea, tecoma, and lantanas, Cactus Mart grows and sells real native plants. I have purchased sages, salvias, buckwheat, mesquite, opuntia, and red barrel cactus, and they have all thrived in my garden. Also good for native bird and butterfly plants. I came here to dig my own cacti and I had so much fun. They have a small selection of cacti for you to "dig up". The baby cacti are in small tiny pots. You pick a pot (different prices) and regime these small cacti with some tongs. The soil is $1. It cost me 79 cents per baby cactus. I had such a fun time. I brought some rocks I picked up along my trip to Joshua Tree and decorated my potted cacti to avoid paying $1-$2 per crystal. This is such a unique souvenir to bring back. My pot was $10. Came here to peek at some plants but ended up staying for over an HOUR admiring all the plants and animals!! As I was shopping, I discovered lounging cats, chickens, fish, and a tortoise... SO CUTE and was such a nice surprise. It was also so neat to put together a "plant your own" set-- my boyfriend and I each picked our own pots/saucers and chose our 79 cent plants to put in. They provide you with soil, containers, shovels, and tongs to put your plant together. We loved how it turned out. We have been looking for some affordable cacti for our place in LA, and we finally found the nursery we will buy from. They have a great selection of many things - cacti, pots, lawn decor, bistro sets, native plants, succulents, crystals, and more! This place was pretty sweet, I recently went on a solo trip to PS for a few days, it was more of a cactus and desert landscape journey to get inspiration for our home in Sacramento. I ended up going to a few different nurseries in and around Palm Springs during my visit. Cactus Mart was my favorite of the bunch, there was charm from the minute you turned your blinker on into the parking lot. The place itself is beyond adorable and offers a lot of charm, the staff and owner were extremely friendly and helpful, they greeted me as soon as I entered the nursery area (the other nurseries in the area no one greeted me). They had an awesome variety of plants, succulents, cactus etc. and a ton of neat decorative pieces. I ended up buying this human sized dinosaur made of metal. I suppose if any points were to be deducted is that I think compared to some of the other nurseries the prices were just a tad higher. This can be expected for any small or family owned business, especially in a tourist area. This place was really awesome and I will definitely be going back when I am in the area again. What can I say about the Cactus-Mart? It has all the cacti your prickly heart desires. It is a pretty interesting place and you can plant your own cactus. Other things are for sale such as yard art and there is even a hardware store on site. Probably the highlight of the place is that you can plant your own cactus. Which is what the Mrs. did. Cactus-Mart is almost like a desert roadside attraction. Aside from the many cactus and other desert plants, there are chickens and two very large, well fed cats. The employees were very friendly and very knowledgable on the subject of cacti. Due to COVID, you need to wear a mask so if you are one of those grouchy people that doesn't feel that you need to wear a mask don't bother visiting the Cactus-Mart. read more

Grew up in morongo and now returning as an adult to do the "dig your own cactus" experience! Good assortment from a fresh shipment of baby cacti to choose from. Some still have flowers or blooms off of them from spring as well! Just grab a cardboard box and some tongs to grab the lil guys out of the trays. Then we had chosen a pot and used their available cactus potting area to make our arrangement. The entire area is very nice to walk around and appreciate some of the natural desert fauna, a nice koi pond, a desert tortoise, and wild chickens and cats(Sundance and Butch). John helped us out and was really wonderful! Explained some of the cacti we had chosen, including their names and regions of origin. As well as some general cactus mart information we asked about, so thanks again! Bought one of their shirts to help support them after this whole corona virus shut down as well, had some unique designs. read more

The cutest shop!! Definitely stop by if you're on the way to Joshua Tree. My boyfriend and I dug our own cacti and it was so much fun. You grab a pair of tongs, pick any cactus and pot it yourself. What a great way to bring a piece of the desert home with you. The shop is a lot bigger than I expected. There are so many other plants you can choose from. My family has been coming to Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree since 1992, and after years of passing this place and thinking the "dig your own cactus" thing was a joke, we finally stopped in about 7 years ago. You know what? Should have stopped sooner. Their selection right now is not the best I've seen as before, but who hasn't fallen on hard times these days? Their prices are still great. They have a bunch of local pieces of art for purchase and small-scale printed booklets on uses of local plants as well as local UFO sightings and so on. And for all of you into crystals, they have a small but well-priced collection available. And their soaps?! Oh man, I wish I had bigger paychecks so I could buy this stuff in bulk and always shell that good. This is also the home of Butch and Sundance, the two store cats who catch peoples' attention as much as anything else in the store. Unfortunately, on my last visit the owner informed us that Sundance (the brother of Butch) had passed in August. If you stop by, give Butch a little extra love. read more

Big fan of both plant shops and roadside attractions, and if you ask me, Cactus-Mart is both. Located just outside of Joshua Tree, this shop is a lovely place to stretch your legs before hitting the park or a final stop before heading back to LA (the latter option is probably better if you're planning on picking up some plants!). The shop itself is comprised of a few different rooms full of cacti and succulents, plus a big back area with some larger varieties. There's also a front room with crystals, some snacks, gift-y things, etc. I love that there are chickens running around and a cool old cat sleeping near the register.
