I was amazed at the volume and selection of cacti available at Silver Dollar, and at first a bit overwhelmed. However, when the owner Miguel was able to direct his attention to us, he listened to what we were looking for, and patiently showed us tons of options. I prefer to shop local as often as possible, instead of buying from big box stores. Miguel made an excellent point, that the plants from big box stores were grown in a greenhouse somewhere, who knows where. They're not desert ready! We were able to schedule a next day delivery. Miguel showed up with his crew to install our new cacti. He walked around my yard with me and recommended we change where one of the plants was going. I showed him some areas I'm still working on and he had recommendations. I'm planning on working with him again for round 2! His crew was awesome and super friendly. Don't go to Lowe's or Home Depot for cactus. Get them from Silver Dollar! read more

Cool plants but the prices aren't much different from everywhere else. It's a drive outside downtown Palm Springs to get here and then in a sandy dirt road. The man there was friendly and very nice. But I didn't buy anything simply because I can get the same stuff for the same pricing at other nurseries. Maybe you can make a cash deal to help with the price not sure. I didn't want to drive with the large stuff all the way back home when I can get it closer with less drive. read more

Miguel and his team are great! We are architects and designers working on remodels and new buildings in the Hi Dez and constantly need plants for the outdoor areas. They have a great variety of plants and also offer the service of delivery and planting, which is essential- especially for bigger specimens. We have known Miguel for over 20+ years. For our yard maintenance, cactus care, trimming our fruit trees, irrigation repair and a VERY DEAR FRIEND. We are making a move to Washington state next year and Miguel was the only person we thought of that would get our much loved cacti (babies as we call them). Why can't every business be like this. OK for starters I drove over an hour to purchase California red barrel cactus from another store in the Morongo Valley which I will not name...... it rhymes with Actus Smart. I was told they had it and then when I got there they didn't. What they had was a totally different cactus. I was on my way home and I noticed a large property full of cactus. I turn down a dirt road which led me onto the property. The weather was terrible and the wind was blowing about 70 mile an hour. I drove through tons of cactus which led me to a house. Now I have to say I did not even know that this was a nursery I assumed as much but I did not see any sign stating it was a nursery. I happen to see a truck that said silver dollar cactus on it so I googled it and called the phone number. A very nice man named Miguel answered the phone. I explain to him that I was on his property and I wanted to know if he was open for business. It was Sunday. He told me that usually he is not open because it was Sunday but because I was there he would come out and help me. I honestly have never experienced wind this bad in my life. But he came out he walked me around, answered all of my questions, and was just an all out friendly knowledgeable man. I was so grateful to find such a nice person willing to come out in that horrible weather on their day off just to show me some cactus. This guy was great. I found exactly what I was looking for and all of my plants looked extremely healthy. To top it all off I was able to purchase my plants at a great price. The prices were at least half of the other store. I would definitely recommend taking the drive and checking out the best selection of cactus plants I have found. went to this place with my girlfriend coming from san diego. i found it on youtube. the owner, Miguel, was nice and informative. he has a vast collection of different cacti. some of the same variety in different sizes. he told me he was actually sold out of his most popular cutting, the bridgesii. he told me to call him if i plan on coming out again. when youre going to this place it leads you down a dirt road. miguel suggested to go down to old morongo rd and make a left on steely st. i have a car with low clearance so it was good advice. Miguel Gonzalez (the owner) and his family crew did a wonderful job with rock landscaping around our house and indoor atrium. They provided excellent advice on which rocks to use and how to arrange them. The end product was everything we expected and more. We especially appreciated the careful clean up job they did in and around the driveway after the rock was put down. Miguel is friendly and has excellent communication skills. He never once tried to sell us any additional services without our asking (which we did do after the job was complete). His price was very fair for all the work done.
