Last week, I decided to get my hair done. I guess some emotional floodgate was opened because I then found myself with sparkly red toenails and whisper soft heels (who am I kidding?) It was just a hop, skip and a jump before I found myself in the hands of Fay looking down at me with the eyes of a hawk searching for prey. I didn't even bother to say "just the brows" because I knew just how in touch with my masculine side my face had become since I stopped looking in the mirror during Covid. "Do the whole face," I told her. The first time I came here, before Covid, I did say, "just the brows." I'll never forget the terrifying words I heard. Has anyone ever told you that you snore and you really didn't know? It was like that. I think the word mustache may have been bantered around but I have tried to erase that pain from my memory. I do recall that everybody noticed (and mentioned) the changes to my face (which made those little hairs I never noticed all the more humiliating). This week I knew to ask for a facial, a full-face thread and soaps and lotions to take home. I'd forgotten how threading tests your ability to stay quiet and seated while hair is pulled out by the roots. I'm not young anymore and I'm not rich, so I'm just going to have to do this looking-decent-thing the old fashioned way.

This is actually a real salon as well. We spent some time talking to the owner Jeff who was so friendly explaining how his salon came all together. It was amazing to hear how this museum got created. There is a small gift shop upon entry where you'll find interesting stuff to buy. Highly recommend to put this on your list to visit.

Part of the museum features over 3000 vintage displays dating back to the 1940's with hairdryers, posters and advertisements, mannequins with all kinds of unique curlers, a one person sauna that looks like it came from the 1950's and many vintage dolls like Farrah Fawcett. The dolls have been well preserved and still in their boxes. Jeff has been collecting these items he told me for over 19 years. The rest of the salon is working. You can make an appointment for all hair services here and be surrounded by all this nostalgia. Outside in the back of the salon I found all these 1960 hair dryers. It was just wild seeing all these historical hair tools. I had so much fun touring around this museum and talking with Jeff. Vibe is well worth a stop just to step back in time and enjoy a giggle.
