He also told me about the tracking site which gave me peace-of-mind as I checked their location and progress The receptionist (whose name I didn't catch) was so patient with all of my questions while in the waiting area for an hour. She even went to the back to retrieve different T-shirt color and size options and a plastic bag to carry the clothes in! There were a few other employees who greeted us and made small-talk as well~ One woman informed us to the complimentary coffee and the locations of the restrooms. A different instructor calmed our nerves while we waited for our appointment. Overall, extremely pleasant customer service! They work hard to keep the planes in order and ready for the next flight. Their administration is seamless; I never have issues with scheduling or payment processing. Learning to fly is already stressful so I really appreciate knowing the logistics aspect is well-managed. My instructor, Jesse, is a master at his craft. From the beginning Jesse curated an environment of professionalism and safety. Every time I'm behind the controls with him, I know I'm in good hands. He changes his instructing technique to ensure that it fits your needs and you are sure to get the most out of each lesson. Jesse has a way of understanding what you need before you as a student even know, and will adjust to your learning style with ease. He is encouraging and patient during your most frustrating moments, but is also one of your biggest fans throughout your training milestones. As for the other instructors, I cannot speak as a student, but I can say that listening to them debrief with their students is always informative. They are all personable, knowledgeable and I would be lucky to fly with any of them as well. I relocated from the Bay Area to Riverside during my PPL training due to an Air Force PCS to March…read moreARB. I chose this school for convenience and because they advertised Piper Archers, which I had been flying, but upon arrival I was told they had sold them, so I transitioned to their Cessnas. After about 15 to 20 hours, I was becoming comfortable in the new aircraft. During a short field landing, I applied firm braking as part of the maneuver. On a hot day, the left main tire failed. I took responsibility and agreed to cover the cost of the tire replacement. I was then charged $300, while a document at their front desk clearly listed Tire and Labor as $222. When I raised the discrepancy, I was told over the phone the difference would be refunded. About a week later, I received an email stating the refund would not be issued and that the form had been rectified to match the higher price. Because of this incident, I was told I was not a good fit for the school and was advised to train elsewhere. Flight training is already a significant financial commitment, and situations like this make cost transparency even more important. The issue here is not the tire, it is the inconsistent pricing and reversal after acknowledging the discrepancy. Being shown one price and charged another, then having it changed after the fact, is not a good standard for a training environment. I would strongly recommend prospective students get all pricing and policies clearly in writing before committing, or consider training elsewhere.

Just wrapped up my 8-hour LASD CCW refresher with Medic Up Consulting, and let me tell you, these…read moreguys are the real deal. If you've been to enough of these classes over the years like I have, you know they can sometimes turn into a dry lecture or a massive instructor ego trip. Or both. Not here. The guys running the show--Ron, Juan, and the rest of the crew--are active and retired law enforcement, veterans, and first responders. They aren't just reading slides out of a manual; they're sharing actual, street-level experience. There's no fluff and absolutely zero attitude, just straight-shooting, practical advice from people who have actually been there. Every single instructor, and there are a lot of them, are approachable, engaging, and legitimately want to help you become a safer and more knowledgeable CCW card holder. The day starts with a safety brief and then some shooting drills, followed by the live-fire qualification, all of it up at Burro Canyon (give yourself extra time to get there, this place is in the middle of the boondocks). Safety was locked down tight, but the environment was relaxed enough that everyone could focus and get some solid training in. The instructors readily admit that the actual shooting qualification score is a no-brainer, so they weave in more things like drawing from the holster and dropping magazines. The instructors are constantly on the move, adjusting your grip, giving you tips to be a safer and more accurate shooter. Very, very cool. Following the shooting qualifications and a lunch break, they handled the legal updates and use-of-force stuff clearly and kept the class moving. One of the best parts is that they actually weave trauma medical training ('Stop the Bleed') right into the course. Knowing how to save a life is just as important as knowing how to handle a firearm, and most other CCW classes completely skip that side of the coin. I will confess that as a new hunter, I carry a tourniquet, but I didn't consider some of the nuances the instructors brought up, like rapid access from the pack, putting it on one-handed, high and tight, etc. And we actually practiced using it! If you need your initial permit or you're just looking for a renewal class that won't waste your time, don't look anywhere else. Professional, down-to-earth, and genuinely good people.
