Clumsy unprepared sales personnel.
To the inquiry of if they had night vision scope the answer was "we don't have in Canada and never will" and he went on saying that I could buy it south of the border but if I got caught I would loose hunting privileges, pay fines, go to jail, etc, etc, etc... I believe that to this person, a tall older man with deep voice working at the scope/binos counter, never occurred that someone may be interested in shooting at night for fun and not hunting. Never occurred that it may be possible in the future as the need to curtain the spread of wild boar increase. Never occurred to this person that hunters may get approval to hunt varmints or certain predators.
We, hunters, may never say that something that the antis got pushed through will never be changed. Bylaws are made by those who show up in the courts and in the legislator's office.
I am sure Cabela's can do a much better job preparing their personnel to be less rude, be more understanding of the client's needs, more open minded to what may be changed in the future or what should be fought for within the hunting / outdoorsmen community.
It is not the first time something like this happen to me and by now I already made my mind. Somebody else here posted that he would rather go to a local store and that is exactly what I suggest as well.
Check the large store for items that may be of interest to you, but shop in a more specialized local store or go online. Happy season! read more
