I got word of Cabbagetown Piano Studio via a FabFind special. I hadn't played piano since I was 14 (I'm 32 now), so I thought it would be a great way to get back into it and see if I wanted to pursue it in the future.
Jason is a very nice teacher, and a great piano player. On my first visit he spent about 10 minutes getting to know my skills, experience, and what I wanted to get out of my lessons. He provided a lesson book, and provides a great introduction to the grand piano's construction and parts. As a bonus, the homely setting with hardwood floors is a very nice place to play and learn. The grand piano you learn to play on is also pristine.
Since my first lesson we have worked through the workbook and he has provided me tips on how to sit, how to curl my fingers when playing, but what I love the most is how much theory I've unexpectedly learned from my sessions! He's always willing to answer the curious mind's questions about things like why there are white keys vs black keys, why you'd want to play a song in one key versus another (actual questions I've asked him), and chord theory (now part of my lesson plan)!
I recommend Cabbagetown to anyone looking for personal, hands-on experience from a great teacher. You can also book online very easily through the website, which is a great feature! read more
