The food was really good, the staff was friendly and nice, it was our first time there and have struggled in the past to find the good Mexican food places. I had carne asada tacos and carnitas taco with a side of beans. The chips were good and the salsa was good. I asked for hot sauce for my tacos and I really liked the green. Flavorful. The service was good and I look forward to my visit. read more

La comida estaba para chuparse los dedos. Hfhsjsjssj This is legit some of the best Honduran/Mexican mix I've had in forever and it was PACKED in the restaurant (for good reason yall!) The cheese and pork pupusas were steaming and FILLED to the brim (listen here white people - pupusas are SO GOOD, I promise you need to try them), the curtido was tangy and delectable, and the burrito fajita fue una bendición. The way I'm about to be a regular? Insanity. The vibe was immaculate and I'm thankful for my beautiful purple haired diva of a server. Gracias por todo, mis amigas! read more

So good! I also had the texas margarita. This time, I also had two hard tacos with beef. I'll say that I didn't like the tacos because the beef tasted completely unseasoned. It just tasted like ground beef, but that fried fish was the bomb. It was definitely very flavorful and a nice size and I enjoyed the sides. I took a lot of leftovers home. read more

Cabañas - Closed SMH! - Mexican Near Me - West Columbia, South Carolina

On scale of 1-5, about a 2. Food is ok. Salsa is fresh, little flavor. Queso appetizer was watery , not thick& tasty. Nothing great

Yummy Honduran (and Mexican) restaurant! I have been to Honduras many times and always it when I can get baleadas, pupusas, Honduran typical plates, etc in the states. This place serves all of those things and more, in addition to a full Mexican menu as well (including chilaquiles - can't wait to try those on a return trip). It's a little hole in the wall, and the prices are stellar. Nice staff; mostly Spanish-speaking. We will definitely be back! read more

I decided on pupusas for dinner and loved for less than $14 I walked away with 3 pork and cheese and an order of sweet plantains. These weren't the best or the cheesiest I've ever had in my life, but they sure were good. Mild salsa was on point as well. Thanks for existing in Columbia! read more

Although this was not our first choice, I'm very glad the other restaurant was closed. We picked Cabañas since it was close to where we were, and found it is a very good Mexican/ Honduran restaurant. When we walked in we were greeted warmly. When we said we were planning to get the food to go, they immediately handed us some menus. I asked if they had any recommendations since this was our first time in the restaurant. The hostess gave us a few choices, so we took a booth to decide what we wanted. Once we ordered, the food took maybe 15 minutes to get to us. I asked if they had any other sauces we could try and were told they had already included both red and green sauces for us. This was in addition to the salsa for the chips. The steak fajita nachos had a lot of steak. The onions, peppers, and tomatoes were grilled and were a great compliment. The chips were a little soft but I'm sure that was because it took us 10 minutes to get home. The steak was seasoned but not spicy. The baleadas were so very good. We tried the steak and sausage (chorizo). The major thing for me was the sausage was not greasy at all. I have had chorizo so greasy there was a pool of grease sitting on top. Nothing like that here. All the excellent flavor without the grease. The pastelitos catrachos were also very good. The cabbage salad is served without a sauce so the flavor of the fresh vegetables comes through. We also tried one each of the tacos; al pastor, carnitas, and asada. The asada was slightly dry but very flavorful. The carnitas were moist and flavorful. The al pastor uses a pineapple sauce during cooking but there are no pineapple chunks in the tacos. The meat is juicy and very good. The tacos are served with onion and cilantro, and a lime slice. The salsa is smooth, not chunky. It's flavorful but not spicy. For that you need to try the red or green sauces. The red is smoky with a decent heat. The green is clean and hot. I used the red on beef and green on pork. I don't think you can go wrong no matter what you use the sauces on. We thought it was a bit warm in the dining area while we were waiting. The kitchen was putting out a lot of heat. The ceiling fans or wall air conditioning units were not on. This is a place I will definitely return to. There are several other items on the menu I really want to try. read more

Soy una gringa que hablo español muy bien ya que mi esposo es guatemalteco. Desafortunadamente, las employadas fueron ni amables ni atentas. Ellas parecían aburridos, sin actitudes positivas. Sin embargo, the chicken taco salad was fresh and delicious. The cheese and pork pupusa was just okay, yet the sauce was amazing. read more

I don't even know how to express how delicious the food was. If you don't speak Spanish, make sure you let them know when you go in so their staff isn't caught off guard when you order if you only speak English. We went in because they had traditional Mexican food on the menu and decided to try the Honduran food instead. We hadn't had it before so we weren't sure what to expect. I had the Carnitas with fried yuca topped with cabbage salad and pickled onions. I don't even like onions and I didn't take them off because the blend of flavors. We also got the papusas which were incredible. read more

best tamales in town!! I always love stopping by on my way home from work- they are super kind and its homey & feels comfortable inside

If I could give this place negative stars I would. This location is basically a Honduran restaurant with a Mexican menu. The customer service was mediocre at best. I ended up having to walk up to the counter to speak with the waitress multiple times. We ordered the tacos. They were not authentic. They were terrible. The menu says they are served in a corn tortilla. Unfortunately, i was served flour tortillas (makes a big difference). I asked for corn tortillas and we were charged extra for that. The chicken taco seemed completely unseasoned. And the beef taco was ground beef (ew) so it made the tortilla soggy. But even worse, it was that canned Hormel ground beef with the chunks of potato in it (double ew). We also ordered the enchiladas. They were prepared Honduran style on hard corn tortillas. I couldn't take more than a bite of it because it was so disgusting. Once again, it was covered in the canned Hormel ground beef. And had some really gross sauces drizzled on top. My stomach still feels weird from eating that. But hey, at least the chips and salsa were good. read more

AMAZING!!! It was the first time I've eaten at a Honduran restaurant and it was like eating in my abuelita's kitchen!

First time trying Honduran food, the menu is large and it was a bit difficult to chose from not knowing the food lol The portion was great and had various items, not sure if I made the best choices had the food was a bit bland for me. The owner was so nice and friendly, and the food had a nice homemade feeling. read more

Cabañas - Carne Asada Hondureana (Honduran Grilled Steak) - Mexican Near Me - West Columbia, South Carolina

We were driving north from Florida and decided to stop the night in Columbia. Cheryl mapped up an open Mexican restaurant and we ended up here. This is probably the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. I got the Steak a la Mexico and Cheryl got the chicken fajita quesadilla. Both were amazing. I will put this place on my list of places to revisit whenever I am back in town. read more

We decided to check this spot out based on reviews and the need for pupusas. The waitress was less than friendly and seemed uninterested in trying to provide service/help. We were passing through Columbia on our way home from the beach and needed a quick lunch. This place was amazing. Hot fresh and tasty tacos. Quick and friendly service. Very authentic food. Pupusas. Awesome pupusas! Everything was fresh and very tasty. Glad they reopened!

Yooooooo best Mexican in Columbia without a doubt. 10/10. The ambience isn't the same as the cookie cutter San Joses in the area, meaning it's not necessarily the over-the-top Americanized Mexican feel, but it is super authentic and delicious food for a great price. read more

Ate here last week tried this place for the first time based on high reviews. Tjr mexican was mostly the standard fare you get at most restaurants. The salsa and lunch very salty and the papusa not authentic at all . I will keep looking for a better dining experience read more

Our first time here was delicious. I ordered the Carne Asada Hondurena and it was amazing. The meat was lean and tender and was seasoned perfectly. The pickled cabbage and onions brightened up the flavors of the dish, while the green banana chips added a little something starchy. The tortillas appeared to be house made, and were so tasty and it was just one more thing to impress me. Even the beans and rice were really good. My husband ordered the polio loco, it was also super tasty. The service was friendly and attentive and our food came out correct and hot. My only concern is that the place was pretty empty so it lacked in the energy you get from a busy restaurant, but we did go on a week night. I just hope that more people catch on to how good this place is so that it sticks around. We will definitely be back soon and we will bring friends. read more

This is a Mexican/Honduran restaurant in an unassuming strip mall next to a tire store. We have wanted to try this place for a while and just got around to it and I'm glad we did! We ordered off the Honduran menu and got a pupusa, carne Asada Hondurean, baleadas and an al pastor taco. Everything was outstanding. They also give you a choice of two different special hot sauces. Also 1:99$ margaritas! read more

Yet another gem that's definitely worth checking out. I've come here twice, the first time I order the fajita nachos and the second time I got the tajadas con carne molida. Both dishes were fantastic. My friend got the fish tacos which also seemed to be top notch. I recommend ordering one of the Honduran dishes since that seems to be their speciality. read more

Wasn't feeling well, and was in town for the SC football game, so I wanted some good Mexican chicken soup. It was excellent. Huge chunks of white meat chicken, along with rice, and pico de gallo. I also had to try the steak fajita burrito. I didn't have much, but the few bites I had were very good. Nice little hole in the wall spot, and a good find. read more

Came here for lunch because I've been excited to try it. I got a combo with an enchilada, taco, and burrito. First of all, I like this better than other Mexican restaurants in the area. It is fresh, well spiced but not hot, and has so much flavor. My boyfriend got the chicken burrito which was huge and doused in creme and so so good. They have Honduran food on the dinner menu and I can't wait to go back to try it, too. They also have some Central American foodstuffs for purchase. I got the gembos plantain and pork skin chips, chili like flavor. It was also delicious! The best crispy crunchy combination conceived. The service was amazing, we were in and out quickly and everyone was attentive and friendly, and they moved the crowd through well. It is clean and comfortable, well-lit, and with an easy to read menu. I didn't notice any vegetarian options, but there are seafood options for the pescatarians. It's in a convenient location tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. Go get it. Leave sated. read more

I have been to this location so many times I have lost count. There are so many Mexican restaurant and taco stand around here but this this place doesn't offer just Mexican but also Typical plates from Honduras. The food is amazing and the service is without say. They cater to all of your wants and even special little request. They have this whole separate part for parties and groups. TV screens and music threw out the whole place. You get tons of food for a very small dollar amount. If your in the area I insist that you check it out. Each time I visit it's as if it just gets better. read more
