Chocolate with 'churros' small, length of a doughnut-like pastry is a traditional Catalan way to start the day, and different cafes vie with each other to sell the best chocolate. The drinking chocolate here is hard to beat it's delicious, not too sweet, and so thick it is more of a dark chocolate custard than a drink. They also sell an extensive range of sweet and savoury pastries and salads here, making it a popular venue for a light lunch. As well as a large pavement seating area at the front, there is a series of interior rooms, including a lovely conservatory and a small, secluded rear garden, complete with a small grotto and pond, home to some friendly terrapins. The interior is a good example of the Catalan 'Modernista' movement, whose best known exponent is Gaudi. It's decorated with colourful art nouveau motifs, and the colourful, Moorish-influenced tiling associated with Spain.

It's a spacious cafe on one of Sitges' main pedestrian arteries, Carrer Marques Montroig. Beyond the lure of terrace seating, it has the added convenience of being open from 8:30AM to midnight and 2AM on weekends. Their menu is quite broad with a focus on familiar comfort foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We came here to have salads, and they have them for 8,7€ each. Jamie had the Spinach which included jamon serrano, parmesan, and walnuts (Photo 9), while I went with the Caesar which had chicken and parmesan (Photo 8). They were both hearty portions well executed. We decided to indulge and have 2,2€ Cafe Leches (Photo 6) but not before sharing a big 6,2€ slice of Apple Pie served à la mode with vanilla ice cream, cinnamon, toffee, and whipped cream (Photo 7). They're locally known for the wide variety of their baked goods (Photo 2), so we just felt a need to have dessert. She acted like we bothered her. Ordered. After waiting for food and drink for a while, she came back and asked what we had to drink. Reminded her. Food came out much later and food was mediocre at best. Had to ask someone else to get check. Decided to give it one more change today and went for a smoothie. After sitting outside, waitress came up and just stared. Ordered two smoothies. Brought out by someone else. Smoothie was nothing special. Waitress came back about 20 min later with the bill saying she's leaving. Paid in cash. Waited for almost 15 min for our change and a different waitress brought it and sat at table and walked off. Food was nothing special and service was horrible. Wouldn't recommend going there.
