I have used cab services across the country and Metro Cab is consistently the worst and an embarrassment to Grand Rapids. With the significant investment which has made the GR Airport a best-in-class regional airport, I'm surprised the Airport Authority allows Metro Cab to continue to operate given its less than two star rating average from nearly 40 reviewers. I have used them around 10 times and based on the experience consistently well below expectations, I will no longer use Metro Cab. Here's three reasons: They have overcharge me multiple times versus their airport posted rates and when this is challenged, the drivers have acted aggressively which is concerning when they now know where you live. Their cab interiors are heavily soiled, worn down and unpleasant. Another time I booked a reservation with Metro Cab for an early flight and no one showed. When I called the company, the automated system stated I had a reservation. When I finally was able to get to a live person, she informed me that no driver chose my ride so no one is coming. The definition of a reservation means some is committed to come but this is not the case with Metro Cab. Save money, be safer and get much better service with Uber or Lyft. Advice for the Airport Authority would be to make it easier for Uber and Lyft customers by allowing these drivers to park at the curb as is done for the Metro Cabs as that is the primary reason anyone would choose Metro Cab over another transportation alternative. read more

I didn't have the nightmare experience waiting for a no-show cab like many other reviewers here, but I did experience the most ridiculously overpriced 40-mile drive from John, who was nice enough (if you don't mind being proselytized and can tolerate light racism) but charged $140 for a trip to Muskegon that cost $60 in an Uber. If it were possible to give this company zero stars, I would. I made a reservation for a pickup at 4:45am a day in advance and was given a confirmation number. At the appointed time, the cab had not arrived so I called only to learn the cab had not been dispatched and none were available. If they had the decency or basic courtesy to call me (they had my number) I could have made other arrangements. As it was, I was in a rush so I drove to the airport and parked in short term parking. To get where you're going Travel plans are usually iffy at best. Things happen that are unexpected and a bit of flexibility is always useful. We wanted to get into Grand Rapids from Midway Airport at a reasonable time and we had a rental car all ready for us. Unfortunately crappy weather delayed the flight which means we didn't get into Grand Rapids until after midnight. Well, of course nobody was still at the rental car place and when we called them they said they would send a shuttle. And of course the shuttle never came and we couldn't get a real person when we called back. So it was time to get flexible or sleep in the thrice accursed airport all night. As we were pondering our sad fate I saw a sign that said Metro Cab. Since our options were pretty limited I decided to give them a call. To our amazement someone actually answered the phone that was polite and efficient and said they could send a driver right over. The driver showed up in a reasonable time and was very friendly and nice. So we got to where we wanted a whole lot later than we wanted but in retrospective we were pretty happy to get there at all. And we didn't have to sleep on a crappy bench in the airport. No, Metro Cab wasn't inexpensive but it did do what we wanted and made a very unhappy incident a whole lot better. The rental car company is a different story and one better left for another day. read more

Terrible! I called and made reservation the night before for a 4:30am pickup to airport. Had to call 3x. No one ever showed up. Dispacher first tells me driver will be there 5 minutes. Then she told me driver came and I wasnt there. I was standing at hotel door over 30 minutes! No cab came. Then she changed her story and said the driver picked up someone else at my location. Again no cab arrived. I was standing at the door. No one went in or out. Then she tells me another driver is 1 mile away and will arrive in 5 minutes. After another 15 minutes of waiting I got a ride to airport with someone else. Still trying to be considerate I called to cancel the cab (that never came) and the automatic system says the ride was cancelled! They never planned on providing the service. I reserved two days ahead of time online and received an email confirmation. When the day arrived - no taxi. After 10 minutes I called and was placed on hold for 25 minutes, during which time nobody spoke with me. Finally I called an Uber, which arrived in 4 minutes and got me to the GR Ford airport. I boarded the aircraft all of 10 minutes before the door closed, thus narrowly averting a travel disaster. My girlfriend and I were on our way to Phoenix and had a plane to catch. We called several hours earlier for a cab to the airport. They said they'd be there on time. After the cab was already 10 minutes late, we called the dispatcher to find out what was the problem. They said they were having trouble finding someone to take the fare. Really? You could not call us and tell us you were having a problem ahead of time? We finally had to take my car and park it at the airport which cost me $160 for 8 days. Thanks Metro! Worst company ever, do not call them to schedule an appointment you will regret it. We scheduled them for an early pickup at our home for Friday am 05.04.18 to go to the airport in Grand Rapids, Mi. When they did not show up at our scheduled appointment time my wife called them and got some guy out of Detroit who said sorry they have no drivers and left us totally hanging can you believe it??? If I could give this company no stars, I would. We called a cab from our home on the west side of Grand Rapids. They came a half an hour later, past our house and then turned around. There were 2 men in the front and the driver explained that he wasn't from around here. The driver had verbal GPS on but the other man was telling him a different way to go. They drove us to our location downtown and didn't know how to get the fare total. My husband just gave them $20 and we got out. We called about 11 to get a ride home and they never showed up. We called to check on them and they said it would be a minute. At 12:30 am we called Calder City and they came in less than 10 min. One would think, in a city the size of Grand Rapids and with all the different ride share companies in the area that cabs would be a little more on point. We will stick with Calder City from now on. read more

My student took a Metro Cab from the Detroit Airport to Ann Arbor. She accidentally left her purse with wallet and computer in the cab (late and tired). Upon discovering this we immediately called the Metro Dispatcher on call at the Detroit phone number. The Dispatcher informed us that the Cab driver had already called in the item left in the cab, and worked with us to schedule another (paid) trip to quickly drop it off to our student back in Ann Arbor. Both the Dispatcher and the Cab driver were fabulous to help us so quickly!!! We were impressed with the driver's honesty, calling in the lost item right away, and delivering it quickly (with another paid fare). The Dispatcher coordinating it all was a godsend! Losing all those items could've been a disaster and Metro Cab was FANTASTIC helping our student. read more

First two times I called back they told me 15 more minutes. Third time they hung up on me. Fourth time a guy screamed at me and said he already told me it will get there when they find a driver. Driver refused to split fare 3 ways and collected $100 ($33/per person) to go 12 miles total from the airport to the Children's Hospital to my home. Nor did driver run meter. That's 12 miles divided by 3 people. Total rip off. Avoid at all cost. Complaint to office resulted in ZERO help. read more

I have used metro cab two times in 2019 and both times they have been late. The first time the driver was 25 min late (Jan) and I thought it was just a fluke. But today, my driver is 30 min late (Feb). I called the dispatch office, which is located in Detroit so they do not know weather conditions firsthand) and they kept me on hold for 10 min while sorting out the issue. Not a reliable cab service and if you book with them make sure your appointed time is 30-40 min before you want to actually leave from your destination. In this instance I called the night before at 8:30 pm to request a 4:30 am pick up. Driver arrived at 5 am saying they had no one assigned to pick me up. At least the driver high tailed it to the airport once I was in the car. read more

I needed to get to the airport for an early flight. The day before, my plans for reaching the airport changed so I had to book a taxi for 4:15 A.M. the next morning. I went to bed early, and when I woke up the next morning I had a message waiting for me that my reservation had been canceled. The company had called a mere 6 hours before the scheduled pickup time - at 10:06 P.M. - to let me know that because of a winter storm warning they were only taking customers who had an account with them. As a new customer, I wasn't eligible for pickup. It's now 4:20 A.M. and I'm standing on a snowy sidewalk at -15°. I call in; I ask for help; the representative does say the Metro Cabs are already up and driving; I ask what she can do for me, she says, "Nothing." I am lucky to have very, very good friends. If I didn't, I would have missed my flight. And for what it's worth, the roads were fine. read more

I needed a cab at 8:30 on a Friday morning, so I called the night before to schedule it. I was told that I could not call that early. Had to call 1 hour before pick up. I said, "But what if there is a 2 hour wait? How about if I call 2 hours before pick up?" She told me "No- you can't call any earlier than 1 hour before pick up." So i waited and called one hour before pick up and was told, "Sorry we can't get you, we are all booked up." When I persisted, they said they could put me on the list, but it would be a 3-4 hour wait. I will NEVER call this compnay again! read more

2 cab drivers refused to take me and my family from the airport to our home because they wanted to pick passengers with airline vouchers to Detroit in line! The taxi attendant and airport traffic control had to intervene and force the driver to pick us up. Horrible experience not to mention embarrassing. Today my wife and I took a Metro Cab from Ford airport to our home in Caledonia, a distance of 4.9 miles. When we arrived at our home the meter was at $26.07! When I complained to driver that I've never paid that much, he dropped fee to $23.00, which is supposedly the flat rate. I called the manager and told him what had happened. He calculated that the fee should have been $16 and change. After he spoke with driver he called back and said driver told him the meter was defective. Why didn"t the driver tell me this? The manager said the difference was $9.50 from what I paid to what the fee should have been. The manager asked me what would I like to do as the driver was willing to drive out and give me the difference, essentially putting the decision on me. I felt the appropriate action by the manager would have been to send me a check for the difference and I told him so. He stated something about they have to deal in cash...? I told him to forget it and just keep it. From now on, I'm taking Uber!! read more

Driver called first. There was not good reception so I hung up. Called him back got his voice mail. When he pulled up. He didnt offer to take my bag no smile no good morning. He just stared at me. Finally when I got to the car door he took my bag and put it in the back. Where it rolled around at every turn. I tipped him anyway and told him to try and be friendly and smile at least with a good morning. He only replied that he was sorry. Not sure if it was his first day or something. Had a late flight into the GR airport and I decided what the heck, I'll just cab it for oldtimes sake (realizing it's more expensive) instead of messing with rideshare apps, especially as I don't live too far away from the airport anyway and it was super late on a weekday night/early morning. I was hoping it was just a line of cabs that come to you when a rep flags them to come swing by but it seems MetroCab has full control of the GR airport now, at least at that time of the night. You had to go through a lady with a clipboard and a few Metro people standing around her all talking at once. Seemed like they were thrown off guard that I didn't have an appointment and wanted a ride to somewhere other than a hotel. I swear one of the reps asked me at one point "how much are you willing to pay?" and I couldn't help but just start laughing.... The picture (someone else posted it in another review) had my area in there with an estimated flat-rate which I then told him. A nice airport security guy was standing by I started talking to and he mentioned how there's cabs lined up at the other end of the airport but the only way to get one is to go through this lady. ... Thankfully after about 5-7 minutes, another gentleman wanted to go to a hotel right in my area and so a cab driver took both of us. The vehicle was extremely nice high-end spacious vehicles so no complaints there. I lived about 5 miles away and it was $18 bucks plus tip. Driver probably made off nice since the other gentleman paid him the same flat rate I assume. Pricey but at that point of night and it being a cab, I wasn't going to complain. 3/5 stars. read more

It was pre-paid and scheduled to take me back to the airport. 10 minutes after I should have been picked up, I tracked down one driver for the company who was picking up someone else. He called it in, and told me "someone was coming". After waiting more, the valets tracked down another driver who came back with the same "someone was coming" line. Gave up after 25 minutes and found another way to the airport. Luckily I didn't miss my flight. They had my contact info, no attempt was ever made to get in touch with me. read more
