One of the Asian groceries that carry a broad collection of products from most Asian brands. A reliable place to find mostly what I need.

Best and longest running Asian grocery in town! This is pretty much a staple to the community now.

There's so much stuff packed in this place it would take me a day to look everything over but just being there a few minutes I found vegetable dumplings, bean curd jerkies and every variety of ramen and rice noodle around. I will definitely be back to investigate more.

When I was learning Mandarin, I felt very inclined to go into this shop to test out my skills. I never quite got the hang of the language, but I did become a fan of this grocery store as a result of my language learning attempt. You can buy pickled foods, frozen foods, dried foods and beverages, as well as sweeties and some everyday staples. You may not exactly know what something is (there aren't always adequate translations on the packages) but that shouldn't dissuade you. Approach it like a food adventure, get home cook it up and see what happens. I've purchased some pretty good egg-roll wrappers here, as well as rice and dried mushrooms. They also sell tofu pretty cheap, although it isn't organic. I recommend popping into this local grocer and expanding your horizons. The man who is always there when I am is quite nice and willing to assist you on your culinary adventure.

The Long Version: I stumbled upon this supermarket by accident as my husband and I were walking around in Halifax. It was definitely not there the last time we were in Halifax in 2022. It looks like it opened sometime in 2024. It's fairly large and similar to Asian supermarkets I've been to in much larger cities. Many of the products are from China, but I did see a few items from Thailand, The Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam and other Asian countries. I didn't see any items from Japan or Korea, but I didn't look at every single item in the store, lol. The store is big and bright. They have shelf stable items, refrigerated foods, frozen foods, fresh produce, toys and cosmetics. I'm sure if you're looking for Asian ingredients for recipes you will find them here. Service was courteous. I bought some Pokemon toys here for my little nieces and they gave me a free reusable tote bag because I spent over $20. We walked there but there appears to be some underground parking available. (189)

The noodles and tofu were tough and rubbery and the sauce was too sweet for me. I know I said I didn't want spicy but dang. That being said, my husband (who ordered a sauteed beef rice plate) was very happy with his order. It came with a salad (lettuce, cucumber and tomato with a vinaigrette dressing and the beef was seasoned beautifully. I was so envious of his meal! The spring rolls were the true gems of the meal, especially mine. My hubbie put it perfectly - they were the first spring rolls that we'd ever had where the outside of the spring roll felt like part of the food, instead of something crunchy. We had the meat ones, but I'd be really interested in the veggie ones too! The lady who works the front counter (and I'm assuming owns the place) is amazing. She has so much energy and makes sure you have everything you need. It was much more like a traditional restaurant service-wise than a fast food joint. She came out and collected our trays when we were done and brought us sweet and sour sauce unprompted for our spring rolls. I really loved her and would honestly go back just because she was so great. (And for the spring rolls)

The one on Joseph Howe might be bigger, definitely has the best Joe clothes line and electronics, and the one on Barrington is open the earliest (7am) which works well when I drop my husband off at the office at the crack of dawn. That said, still my favorite is the one on Quinpool. I love the organization and the great selection of natural, organic and ethnic foods, as if it were a separate store. So easy to find things. The staff is beyond helpful, making sure they take you to wherever the mystery item is supposed to be. Case in point...this morning I was on a mission to find bean sprouts - yesterday being unsuccessful at two other stores. I even went to Pete's downtown and couldn't find any. Pete's is the place I go to for things no one else seems to carry. But not today...today only the Superstore on Quinpool had some. And not yet on the shelves mind you. The sweetest staff stopped what he was doing, went to the back and brought out a box full. Great friendly, efficient service - a huge deal in my opinion. T

I constantly see the items I am purchasing, mostly vegan, rise at a ridiculous rate, most often by $1 at a time, then after a few weeks they put the item on sale for the price it was a couple of weeks prior. You obviously think the consumer is a fool? I refuse to purchase at ridiculous prices so unless you stop gouging the consumer I am done with the Superstore. One example is Riviera Vegan Yogurt. It went from about $4.59 to $7.50 in a few months. The second item is the recent addition of alarms for self serve purchases causing the shopping carts to lock up. After a few false alarms and the embarrassment of having my receipt checked, I am fed up. If you do not want to trust the customer then spend some of your fat profit and hire some cashiers and stop with the self serve option. Get back to providing customer service to the people who purchase from you because without them you would not have a business.

Thick cut, and I swear it loses less weight when it's cooked; not sure if this is because it's less fatty than regular commercial bacon or if that stuff is water chilled, but I'd say you're getting more bang for your buck in both quality and quantity. I think it clocks in at $8/lb. The breakfast sausages were a substitute for me when they were out of bacon on a recent visit. They have a fairly mild seasoning to them, and not quite that typical breakfast sausage flavour, which I am admittedly a sucker for. They're a bit more coarsely ground than most sausages, and could use a bit more fat added in as they are a bit on the dry side for a sausage.$7/lb. I picked up a batch of maple-cured English bacon on my last visit, which I'm looking forward to trying! Taken from their website about the importance of eating grass fed beef: "Grass-fed beef and lamb are now considered a health food of the highest order. Compared to grain-finished meats, it is higher in omega-3 fatty acids, beta carotene, and especially conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), an essential fatty acid largely missing from modern diets and found almost exclusively in the dairy and meat products of grass-eating ruminants (cattle, sheep, and goats)."

We are poor as dirt here but that doesn't stop them from keeping their prices as high as possible for as long as possible. Shop at walmart, let all their over priced meats rot on the shelves (as they are, just wait a day and 90% of the meat will be 50% off and likely rotten the next morning but they'll gladly sell it to you) Personal peave: Every shopping cart sounds like a dump tuck full of sheet metal because they refuse to service them as it would cost money and might make the whole experience slightly less horrific. If you let a clerk know about a huge spill people are walking all over they'll audibly sigh and roll their eyes at you.
