They were able to talk me through some supplies I was looking for to find what I needed at the best price. Their ammo is about in line with other stores and they do not seem to be out to gouge you. The range is a little hard to find in the maze of the industrial buildings, but I have to admit I drove past it once.

Nice range, but that's the only positive I can come up with. Firearms pricing used to be…read moreridiculous as compared to others, but has become moderately competitive over the past few years. All of the decent employees are no longer there and have been replaced by know-nothing, unfriendly or downright sullen sales associates. Online orders have gone from a 3 day delivery wait to 10 business days (do not believe the 5-7 business day wait posted on the website). All other gun shops in the area still deliver in 3 days or less. In short, this place caters to beginners and people who don't know any better. If you're a beginner and enjoy being taken advantage of, by all means go to Range USA. However, if not I would recommend Atwell's in Painesville or Sherwin Shooting Sports in Willowick as an alternative. Both have decent ranges and knowledgeable staff members.

As a woman I was a little worried about finding a class that would help me learn to shoot and get…read morecomfortable with a firearm without being completely intimidated. My brother suggested Civilian Defense Academy and I have been thrilled with them. In February I started with the Learn to Shoot class and absolutely loved it. They keep the classes small and only work with a few people at a time during the range portion. That was fantastic because James was right there to watch everything I was doing as I was loading and shooting the various firearms he provided for practice. He was there to answer all of my questions and offer suggestions on improving my form and accuracy. Yesterday I attended the Concealed Carry course to get my license. James and Bruce are very knowledgeable and put everyone at ease right from the beginning. They make it fun and really interesting while still being very professional and making sure to stress the importance of safety - for you and everyone around you. The idea of sitting in a 10 hour class about firearm safety, mechanics, use, ammunition, maintenance and legal responsibilities sounded a little daunting but I had a great time. They made it so interesting that it seemed to take no time at all. Even the seasoned hunters in the class said they learned a lot and everyone in the class seemed to really enjoy themselves. I would not hesitate to recommend CDA to ANYONE looking to get their Concealed Carry License or simply looking to get comfortable with using a firearm. I feel much safer and more confident moving forward having taken these courses.

I will continue to suggest Civilian Defense Academy for CCW training as well as beginner shooting instruction!

Yeeeeehaw!!! (If…read moreyou know me at all, you're not gonna believe a word I say in this review.) If you like shootin' guns this is your place. I shot a whole buncha guns here the other day with my dad and his good pal who is a member. Everything is outside. Which I didn't realize until I got there. Then I got sunburn. : ( They have a rifle range, a pistol range, skeet shooting (which I suck at), and trap shooting. It's all pretty interesting to watch if you've never been exposed to this sort of thing. I'll be honest, a few years ago I would have sneered at something like this. I was never a big fan of guns. I got over that point-of-view though after really giving it some honest thought (instead of letting my uber liberal point-of-view shine through.) Guns are kinda cool. You just need to be responsible, respectful, and learn safe handling. They will teach you all of that at the Rod 'n Gun Club. The members here get really excited when a new person shows an interest in shooting. Especially if they're young. I recently received a pistol as a gift from my dad and I needed to learn how to use it properly and how to handle it safely. I learned a whole lot at Ashtabula Rod & Gun Club. Note: this place is not really open to the public except on special occasions. If you know a member, you can go with them.
