Came to them not too last minute to get help with individual tax filing in a complex year, and I…read morehave never used anything but turbotax in the past. Their rate is not terribly low but I figured it would work out considering that they might get me a better refund than, say, HR Block. They offered the rate plus an hourly for their individual preparation, and I agreed. After entering my documents, my agent learned about my small LLC started during the previous tax year, and requested the relevant documents to file the taxes for it. Great! It is a tiny business- it seems my agent is going to throw this in to maximize the return. 2.5 weeks later, after an update request, someone else from the company sends me a message informing me of an added $750 plus hourly (!!!) for the LLC filing. It had been 7 weeks of their collecting documents altogether, with no other information provided about my status/return. I told them this was unacceptable and that in order to continue they would need to wave the fee or offer a discount. They offered $200 off what would be an extra $1200 or so. I'm throwing them a 2 star for at least acknowledging a mistake and offering a partial refund. This is probably too generous considering I'm paying them $230 in hourly fees for absolutely nothing but stress. Went to HR block and got a nice return for maybe a quarter of the price.

This year I used Cherie Williams from FIRM1040 to get my taxes done. Besides canceling 2…read moreappointments at the last minuet, I decided to give her the job on the condition that she return my tax documents to me after filing. She agreed and I dropped the documents off with her daughter by her office. She did the returns and contacted me for payment. I Paid her $325 with my credit card. signed the documents online and she filed electronically. A couple of weeks after that, there was a problem with the bank account that I gave her for my refund to direct deposit. The bank said " Your Tax Preparer can make an amendment for you and change it". I reached out to her about this and her response to me was " I did your taxes". Since she wouldn't help me, I worked with the people at the bank to get the matter resolved. I have repeatedly called and asked about my documents and Cherie will not return any phone calls. Around the beginning of May, I got a letter from The State of NJ, Division of Taxation requesting that I send copies of some of the submitted documents like the W-2. I must send the documents before they will send my refund of $6,170. I emailed Cherie a copy of the letter expressing that I need those documents ASAP. I followed that email up with leaving a message for her explaining the issue and she still do not return calls. Although she agreed that she would return the documents to me, I asked when I can come and pick them up. I left messages asking when I can get my documents. No one gets back to me, I'm being ignored. If this is the type of service you want, then go with FIRM1040. This was my experience after being a third year customer.
