Avoid CR Smith and save time and money. CR Smith in Scotland, sold to me as the best, highest quality replacment windows by the salesman Kyle, assured over and over that they were installing planitherm A+ rated glass, even after the windows had been installed they wrote, it is planitherm glass, until I proved it was not, then they said its the same as Planitherm glass. I insisted I ordered and was sold / bought planitherm glass, finally they admitted it was not what I bought, but was the same!! When I explained you cannot sell an item claiming it is something it is not, they said we are allowed in the contract to change the glass for anything better. But its not better its the same, as you just stated. It was miss sold. This was only the start, six of the 12 windows leaked, they blamed the roof and anything possible, now they have been all taken out and refitted, no leak, so far. Sealed units with dirt inside the seal had to be replaced as well. The mitre joints look like a child with a blunt saw cut them, CR Smith offered to repair, yes repair my new windows, I allowed one trial repair, that made it worse, even the fitter told his boss, they all need replacing. Measuring was wrong, vents too high on windows, stiff to open, terrible finishing externally, lead flashing on upstairs windows done wrong, the list is endless, but to compensate they said we will sort out two small windows and do a good deal on the last french doors, good deal, it was nearly double the price in the contract, they refused to give an break down or details. When I showed the manager the CR Smith contract he asked could he take a photo of it, as he had not seen it, surly CR Smith have copies of their own contacts!! Years later this is still not resolved, I could write a book on the fiasco's of CR Smith, 273 e mails to date, yes that is right 273 e mails and still not sorted out, the staff leave and no one checks the e mail, so you wait weeks to find out, that e mail is no longer is use. Managers make an appointment, no show, then they send a photo of the house they went to, wrong house!! surveyors turn up, saying no idea what I am here for!! Most of the engineers seem great, but appear exasperated at the company they work for, they make appointments turn up, and say, that will not work, or without the materials they were supposed to come with. Thinking of new windows or doors? if you want my advise stay well clear of CR Smith, I wish I had never heard of the man in the blue and white van. As at 2017 still with CAB and Trading Standards, the old page of reviews has been renamed to interior Design, how can yep allow this? bad reviews, and they just hide them rather than sort the problems. read more

I was pressured into buying windows on the same day as the estimate, as the salesman claimed this was my only opportunity to take advantage of their 'flexi-fit' offer, though I do not recall this being a requirement listed on the website. I was told reversible windows were the only style which could be legally fitted in my 1st floor flat due to Scottish building regulations (in which outer surfaces must be safely cleanable from inside the property). The installers were pleasant, but chose not to use a scaffold as agreed, instead they clambered on my kitchen work surfaces, causing minor damage. No safety harnesses were used while they worked at height (as had been described). My furniture was not covered by dust sheets, and no cleaning of their mess was done in my flat, or the communal stair, before they left (which I had been promised). Installation took 2 days instead of 1 due to lack of basic materials on the 1st day, meaning I had to cancel a family meal. Once installed, it became apparent the kitchen window could not be reversed due to its position behind the worktop and the design of the mechanism. Even attempting to do so requires one to kneel on the worktop right beside the opening lean outwards at full stretch over a 4m drop (potentially lethal). After I complained there was a video call to discuss the issue, then a house visit, then no feedback whatsoever. When I requested a written response by email, they instead phoned me and explained they would be taking no corrective action. I am in the process of reporting the issue to Trading Standards. read more

Absolutely love our new front and back door from CR Smith. We chose from the Timberplus range and the anthracite grey has completely changed the look of our house. We've noticed a big difference in noise pollution and there are no more drafts - our old doors were 30years old! read more

Cr smith fitted new sliding sash windows to our home with oak lined sills. The windows look amazing both inside and out. The sliding sash although pvc looks like wood and the operation is fantastic. The only down side is that after paying upto £1500 a window they provided a sash pile that probably cost 2 quid. We went via ebay and bought a decent one for £28. Fitting though was good. They cleaned up after them. Customer service would be scored at 3 out of 5 because i got the feeling they just wanted us to go away but ww gotthere in the end. Would i recommend them? Over priced windows and doors (£ 11,000+ ) which were badly installed. Doors are badly designed and are a trip hazard as you have to step out over the sill. Only reason they have got 1 star is due to the guy who came to repair all the botch ups. Windows put in during November 2014 and last visit from repairman was June 2015. Cement around window broken, sealing of 3 windows needed replacing as cracked, window scratched and had to be replaced, front door leaked 3 times, front door would not close properly 6 times, initial spec for kitchen and bathroom not followed, gap left between utility room window and unit, sealant put on top of dust and rubbish from taking out old window, untidy finishing on inside of most rooms, 2 windows letting draughts in -1 replaced, 1new gasket put around it, mess left behind both inside and outside resulting in 2 car tyres needing replaced and my hoover being left broken. I have never spent a winter so cold in my house, we were unable to keep the heat in. I would personally advise anybody thinking of going to CR Smith to avoid them. read more

Avoid CR Smith and look elsewhere for a company that focuses on delivering quality and substance rather than just a slick and persuasive sales and media front. Over a year ago, I engaged C.R. Smith to replace all the windows in my flat. From the outset there were innumerable problems caused by poor workmanship, defective materials and overall finish. These included several internal timber sills which were cracked and had to be replaced; lack of sealing around the vents; screws inserted at angles and not countersunk; sealant very messily applied. There was also totally inadequate protection for the contents of the flat against dust and debris. Worst of all, many of the windows were far from airtight and much inferior in terms of insulation to the ones that they replaced. C.R. Smith recently tried to remedy this by inserting larger gaskets around the windows, which then fell off in one case the first time that the window was opened. During the cold weather, certain rooms were virtually unheatable, so bad was the insulation. During some remedial work, one of the sills sustained damage with a deep gouge. C.R. Smith ended up being issued with a final warning letter of legal action if these issues are not resolved. Recently the joiners came again and replaced all the gaskets and a pane of glass that was scratched during the original installation. Guess what? When one window was opened the gaskets instantly peeled off. Sealant is very visibly and sloppily applied and the replacement pane of glass is far from straight. I would originally have been prepared to give two stars on account of the fact that CR Smith kept good contact and were prepared to come round and do remedial work. They have been on the whole very courteous and given the appearance of trying to remedy the problems. However, what value is this if they never seem to be able to get things right? Their inability to achieve basic competency in a routine job is, for an established company at least, little short of breathtaking. I am sorry but after a year and a half of constant hassles my patience is at an end. Other people may have had much more positive experiences of this company, but mine would not enable me to recommend CR Smith to anyone. read more

i got c r smith to install my double glazing some years ago ,I put in the Lorimer range which was the most expensive.i live in a 2 story house so there were a lot of windows and doors. at the time I was told it would last a lifetime this was not true as over the years I have had to have new locks fitted,the most recently was 3 weeks ago. I got a new lock fitted on my bedroom window and I was getting draughts in my bathroom window. I was advised to get new hinges fitted which I did which cost me £200 after the workmen left I noticed that the lock was damaged so I phoned them to come and fit a new lock but have been informed that they are not going to be working in my area so which means I spent my money on new hinges for nothing as the window will not lock. I think that it is a strange company that will only come to repair there windows when it suits them not a good advert and to say I am disappointed is an understatement poor show c r smith a disappointed pensioner from the borders. read more

were to start we had a conservatory installed 5-6 years ago1 year later.tons of woodlich wondering around the conservatory floorwen winter arriveswater pouring in throught the corners.also..the lead seal was put on incorrectly installed and leaked.we called and asked them to come and fix itthey stalled and stalled for over 2 years untill the warrenty ran outthey never helped or even tryed to repair the leaks and cracks.. and they have the bloody cheek to phone daily now askin if we want fekin windows awful service..they should be ashamed of themselfs read more
