I brought family that were visiting from out of state & they were amazed at how big & how much stuff they have. It really is an Asian Costco! I found a bunch of stuff to make congee breakfast: chili bamboo, pickled cucumber, wheat gluten with peanuts. Then gonna bunch of snacks! Sooo much snacks & sauces & drinks! They even have fresh veggies, frozen items & a whole aisle of utensils, cookware, kitchen & dining items!

You could get a membership if you'd like but non-members are also welcome to shop! I plan on coming back here again this weekend. It's worth the drive from the Central Valley to So Cal! I found some awesome deals while shopping. They had three large Korean pears for $3!!! That's such a steal. I was so happy to find my favorite fruit at a great price. Among my groceries, I treated myself to the viral fruit shaped ice cream. I believe it was $7 for a pack of three. I feel like it's a lot more affordable here than places in my hometown that charge more than half of the price for just one. It was tasty and I can definitely see the hype.

Bottom Line Up Front: Great Wall Supermarket is a cramped…read moreChinese grocery store that has decent selection at affordable prices, but gets so busy it's not worth going to except right when it opens or right before it closes. The Layout: Like most other Asian grocery stores, it is poorly laid out. Great Wall's goal appears to be to pack in as much product as possible in its average-size store rather than focusing on the customer experience. In the produce section, you can barely get two carts to pass each other in opposite directions. Same story in the aisles with shelves. All it takes is one inconsiderate shopper to stop in the middle and there's an instant traffic jam. The Checkout Area: Same deal here. Great Wall packs pallets of products all around the cash registers to try to get people to make last-minute impulse buys when this area could be used instead to have logical serpentine lane dividers that could control the crowds who have lined up to pay. Instead, people form long lines that spill into the aisle with shelved products, preventing those who are still shopping from finding the items they need. The Customer Service: It's fine, which is a nice surprise -- most Asian establishments have horrible customer service with bad management. Workers aren't super friendly nor will they go out of their way to help you, but they are quick and competent. The Selection: The produce section has a good array of Asian fruits and veggies, but it's not as extensive as other places. They didn't have the one vegetable I was looking for: rau muong (AKA water spinach or ong choy) during my visit. There's a large meat and seafood section, a good amount of seasoning and dry goods, and a decent frozen food section. The Prices: Shockingly, the prices were moderate to affordable. A nice change of pace in the current economy of inflation and overpriced products. The Conclusion: Despite the selection and affordability, the layout, overcrowding, and lack of good management makes this grocer place low on my go-to list. Great Wall Supermarket is a very appropriate name, as the long lines of people waiting to check out blocks the aisles like the famous fortified structure in China. Go here only if you are low on options.

I had not been to this Great Wall (GW) Supermarket in over 6+ years, until a week ago. I was in the…read moreplaza to grab some food and while I was waiting for it to be ready, I stopped by GW to grab a few items. Last month, I shopped at the GW Supermarket location in Covina, due to the convenience of grabbing an item after meeting up with friends for lunch at Haven City. Even though Rowland Heights (and the surrounding areas) are saturated with Asian supermarkets, GW Supermarket is convenient if one is in the plaza grabbing a meal or a drink. It is always about location, location, location... I feel the prices are a bit higher than 99 Ranch or H Mart but it is due to convenience. I only needed to grab an item and looked around, but everything else was just so pricy that I just grabbed the one item. It seems with any GW location, the lines to checkout are always so long, and they had a few open. Parking here is always a bit tight, very narrow parking spots, and with the amount of storefronts is a lot. GW Supermarket would never be my go to, especially for the prices, the not very fresh produce, and the long lines, but it is convenient if I need to grab something if I am in the plaza.

I also have to preface though, this is one of the worst plazas in Rowland Heights, at least when it's peak lunch and dinner rush hour since there's so many eateries in this plaza, along with boba places and other businesses too. If the lot in front has no parking, you can try the structure in the back. If you're still unlucky, you can try street parking or you can park at any other plaza and walk over so long as there's no obvious valuables in your car. It's a bit cramped and claustrophobic, but that means its a well stocked supermarket. Every single time I've gone, it's never empty. Always some customers, always locals chatting with staff. There's a couple businesses inside the market as well, such as other eateries/places to pick up food and other small shops as well. Great place to pick up prepared Korean banchan and kimbap, as well as other traditional dishes. There's a decent amount of meat and seafood, as well as produce. Before it became easier to find, this was the only place I could find Tom Yum Buldak. Crazy, I know. My family and friends have found soju flavors here that they haven't anywhere else, same with random beverages and snacks. Great to stop by once in awhile, especially if you're in the area or if you're waiting for a table at any of the super busy restaurants.

CURIOSITY REWARDED!…read more Out of curiosity, I recently popped in after visiting Love Letter and Tenju Tea House, and to my surprise... I was amazed at how many "go to" items I found in this market. Just to name a couple: the Frozen Wafer Sandwich in the frozen section and Buruguru's Saint Lemon Highball. Moreover, there are lots of other items that can be found here - those of which I consider as hidden gems! Moreover... the service here is as equal as your standard thrift mart. I have no complaints about it. Also, the cleanliness of the store did not concern me as it too appeared clean and tidy. Lastly, just like any other supermarket that sells meat, poultry, and other products along with packaged products with expiration dates or can go bad if on the shelf too long... it is possible to come across something that should not be on the shelf - or purchased - because it was past it's expiration date or turning green. It would typically be the buyer's fault for ending up with something stale dated or bad. For ya'll complaining about buying expired meat... it may not have been entirely be anyone's fault but, hey... they gave an option for a return. And, yes, you should be checking expiration dates. It is no surprise to find something expired on a grocery store's market. It's no reason to give a bad review... otherwise ALL other stores in the whole wide world should get a bad rating too. To say the least, this store is my new favorite based simply on the variety of products they have to offer.

Some items were cheaper than SF market and other Asian markets around town. Great deals. There's even a bakery and hot food shops inside. Cleanliness is basically what you'd expect from an Asian Supermarket. Best thing about this market is the 62 Noodle street, which is a really overdue review on my end Was trying to buy some items when we noticed it rang up as more expensive than what we saw. Cashier basically told us the price scanned is what it is and don't look at the tag saying we saw the wrong items tagged and barcode. She basically told us she can't do anything since that's what it scans as. I'm pretty sure I checked the tag so we went back grabbed the tag and brought it up. The barcodes matched so we escalated to someone more knowledgeable since the cashier didn't want to do anything. After 5-10 mins someone finally came up and said that's the price on the tag and they had to honor it. Took a lot of effort and basically the blamed corporate/headquarters for changing the prices and them not updating their tags. Not sure how that makes sense, but that's their reasoning. So be careful and aware of prices here

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Tokyo Central yet, though I've stopped by here…read moredozens of times - my go to is their sushi tray options! They have the BEST tasting salmon sushi/sashimi all around, at this price point, even better salmon quality compared to nearby sushi restaurants in my opinion. (Our Japanese native friend also agrees.) Best part is - 20% off after 7 pm!!!! But the trays get snatched up quickly. Too bad I'm not around the area at that time, otherwise I'd make Tokyo Central my weekly run for dinner. Their Kimchi Tako Poke is another regular we get, it's so good. However, recently, the only option I saw was the Shoyu Tako Poke - and I didn't like this version one bit - too hard and the flavor is not to my liking. Will never get it again. The hot food area has quite a decent selection, priced and weight by the pound, self-served. Often around 3-4pm, you may see 20% discounted packaged hot food placed out, whatever that's leftover from the lunch rush hour. Tried it a few times, but felt most of the food is heavily dosed in MSG, so I'd be selective on what I get. They also have sashimi party trays which require pre-order. Great pricing for the quality and convenience. Overall, love their sushi selection, and it's a regular stop for us. As for the market itself, there's not as much to buy, and pricing is on the higher end. However, they have a larger selection of some products that I can't find elsewhere, and sometimes their advertised specials are decently priced.

My favorite #1: Their eggs have golden yellow yolks, which you won't find in most supermarkets. My favorite #2: their baked teriyaki eels; you can make Eel Rice for the a small family with one package, usually between $25-35 but sometimes on sale for under $20. My favorite #3: their thick sliced bread (厚片土司) - each slice is about twice as thick as ordinary sliced break; very gratifying when they pop out of the toaster! They also have a huge selection of ready-made food from bento boxes to sushi. A great place for busy working people to get easy meal solutions!
