Trying to find reliable, affordable, and responsive help with landscaping/gardening needs is…read moresurprisingly difficult. After a month long process of calling landscaping companies (all highly rated on Yelp) which resulted in many unreturned calls and one declined offer (from a company that took 2 weeks to get back to me), I was lucky enough to be given the business card for Martinez Landscaping. This is why I feel so compelled to write this glowing review for Martinez Landscaping. You won't find him/them in the yellow pages. They are somewhat of a hidden gem in my view. I was in the process of selling my house and needed help cleaning up 2 years of neglect in my patio/garden area. It literally looked like an untamed jungle until Abad (the owner) and his workers came to my house. He came to my house, gave me an on the spot offer ($70 for 1 hour worth of work) and got to work right then and there. You could not hope to accomplish as much on your own in several hours as these 3 guys accomplish in one hour. It's actually quite amazing. I actually felt like I owed them more than I paid (that's rare with me). As a bonus, they weeded a small area on my neighbor's side just to be nice. And the owner himself is a genuinely nice, helpful guy. He was telling me he took on a massive cleaning project on a large yard that had been untouched for 10 years. So apparently there is no project that is too much trouble for him and his crew. Another helpful thing I learned from him was that you don't have to be present at home for him to do the work (a godsend for a busy single person like myself).

We scheduled a date for the work and got a quote. I went to the property the day the renters were moving out and discovered the landscapers there a day ahead of schedule. They were completely in the way of the tenants moving out. I asked them leave & come back as scheduled and explained why. The next day they refused to come back & claimed that I had yelled at them. It was completely rude and unprofessional on their part. They should have taken responsibility for their mistake and apologized to me. Instead, they will lose a lot of potential business as a result.

I also asked him to rototill and amend the soil with top quality amendments. We had talked about the 4 cu yards I would need. He arrived with his crew and they started clearing while Calmo went to pick up the plants I had purchased along with the amendments. He returned and we laid out the plants. I noticed he had not brought the rototiller or the soil amendment and asked. He skipped my question. He asked if I had planned on landscape fabric or bark chips. He said he had bark chips. I had not intended on it, but had 8 bags in the garage. He said we needed 20 more. I was getting frustrated that our visions were not meshing. We bought more mulch. Skipping to the end, my yard looks nicer, but I did not get what I wanted. He tried to push me towards getting sod and also having him put in a sprinkler system. I appreciate the work he did but feel like the communication was not great.

Since I had such a great experience with them painting my exterior, I contacted them to do the painting after the repair work had been completed. I thought I'd have to hire specialists for each of these issues but Chaz assured me they could "do it all". And they did!! The team works together like a well-oiled machine - doing the repairs and painting with minimal delays. The biggest issue was matching existing paint color with the new areas. How many options in beige can there be? But it turned out perfectly. In addition to the repairs' I also contracted them to repaint the wall on my stair well (which is 2 stories high) and a facing wall. When all the work was finished, everything was cleaned up, even vacuumed, wall and ceiling fixtures replaced, and furniture put back. I highly recommend Coastal Painting for Kitsap.
