I do not even know where to start with this review, I am honestly sad I even have to write this. We had a contractor do construction in our house and while installing HWD floors, they damaged all our cabinets. So we call a couple guys in to give us re-finishing quotes. After meeting Craig, he seemed like a great guy to work with, and even negotiated his price. The fact that there was no "waiting list" should have been a red flag, but I went with him anyway. We decided to "re-face" instead of "re-finish" because we would put shaker doors on and give the kitchen a modern look. I will stick to the facts here- we had alot of requests, which is why I made a 7 page illustrated document outlining what had to be done. (1) I gave him a 50% deposit upfront back in July to order our new custom wood cabinet doors. Cut to.... NINE WEEKS LATER we finally get the doors. He initially told me "oh they take about 3 weeks, maybe 4 if they are REALLY backed up" but 9 weeks? Wow that tells me you sat on my money and didn't order them for awhile. (2) He also did not order any side panels. So now I have to deal with that, and order them myself. (3) He was supposed to build a custom island and extend it from the current small one we had to make it a larger square-shape to eat-in. Guys- he used PLYWOOD. No joke. I can't make this up. An island from plywood could have been made by MY HUSBAND. :( (4) Instead of ordering panels for the island, he made the shaker-style sides himself, but then he has some wood coming in on a 45 degree angle, and other on a 90 degree angle. Why is it not consistent? My contractor pointed out "Umm, you will want to order those in panels because the depth will not be the same. You will have a panel drawer front next to a man-made shaker style, and they won't be the same. It will look sloppy" He was right, it will. (5) When he delivered the island, he basically said it was nearly finished. When my husband noticed a dent and asked why it was like that, he said it happened while moving. Then why is it painted over? If it was dented from moving you would see the orig. wood color. (See two photos). After all the hassle, we agreed to amicably part ways. We agreed that he could keep our %50 deposit, if he returned all the brand new wood doors, and the island pieces too. Well, here we are, 11 weeks later, and we are missing panels, we are missing island drawers (that he claimed he made), we are missing island drawer fronts, and we are missing a roll-out feature he was supposed to make for the island. OH! and I even bought 3 stainless steel utensil containers so that he could measure one of the roll-outs and make it to the specs, and he did not even return the stainless steel container. What a crook. Side note - whenever I called him, it went straight to voice mail, and he claims he never got any of my texts. YET- when my hubs called him, he got at least a few rings, and he got his texts answered. I think Craig Sr. accidentally blocked my number without realizing it and doesn't know how to un-do it. Despite the sh-tshow of events that unfolded, I was always super nice to him and never wanted him to have a reason to not part ways peacefully. I applaud myself for holding it together for so long. My husband and I decided to have our kitchen cabinets refinished. Although we obtained several quotes for the job, we chose C&M Restoration because it was a local company and we always try to support our local businesses. This is one of the biggest mistakes we have ever made!!! The cabinet refinishing job started in April 2018, was paid for in full in May 2018, and here it is September 2018 and we're still waiting for the job to be completed. The Craig Sr. and Craig Jr. team are nothing short of unprofessional. Their work is sub-par and trying to get them to return a phone call or keep an appointment is impossible. Craig Sr. lost the door handles to several of our cabinet doors, and even managed to damage one of the doors during the stripping and staining process. The younger, extremely arrogant Craig Jr., who was sent to do most of the in-house portion of the job, was against completing work that had been previously agreed upon. He reluctantly did the work but managed to get stain on our kitchen floor - stain we cannot remove. We're beginning to think this was done intentionally and in retaliation!!! Long story short, we have doors with no handles, cabinet doors that do not align, a wall cabinet that was lacquered even though a portion of it was damaged by their sanding machine - a portion that needs to be stripped, sanded, and re-lacquered. I recently have had my kitchen cabinets redone. I have read the review below and I am not sure where that man was coming from but I can attest I had the exact opposite experience! Our cabinets were the talk of the town during Christmas! The father and son duo were attentive and professional! I even convinced my cousin to get her cabinets refinished as opposed to spending all the money it would cost to completely gut and redo her entire kitchen. No attention to detail and certainly not Steinway quality being touted by Craig, Sr. When they came to pick up my cabinet doors on a cold January night, they took beautiful oak doors and threw them uncovered into the back of a pick up truck causing many of the doors being dinged by the hardware that was left on. Later, when the cabinet doors arrived and I had to have Craig, Jr. over to show him some areas that needed touch ups - Craig, Jr. accused me of dinging or distressing my cabinet doors. No attention to detail. A real professional company would have taken the doors down and wrapped them up, then loaded them into a covered vehicle (box truck) to protect the good wood doors from the elements. When the day finally arrived to prepare the frames to accept the doors, Craig called and set up an appointment. I took off from work thinking they would be here first thing in the morning as the company is only about 45 minutes from my home. They do not believe in early morning arrivals. When they did show up, I thought they were going to stay the entire day and continue the work. WRONG!!! They showed up and covered the countertops with paper and taped off other things that was not going to receive a coat of lacquer. They were in my home less than 2 hours and didn't come back for another few days. This is a clear indication that my kitchen job was being "fit" into some schedule. They do not stay on the job steadily. So, don't waste taking time off and thinking the job is going to be done quickly. They came back another day to start spraying the frames. In order to make sure that the spray does not get sprayed all over the house, a plastic sheet tent is built around the work area. They started spraying and the tent failed ... causing the dark spray to mist over the newly painted ceiling and walls. There are dark streaks on some of the walls and the mist ruined the newly painted walls and ceiling. Craig Jr. told me that lacquer thinner would take the streaks off the walls and told me I could buy lacquer thinner in any hardware store. I was shocked that the suggestion would be made because it was their fault that a paint job that took me 24 hours to complete was ruined by them and now it was my job to clean up after them! When I spoke to Craig, Sr., he told me that the boys would clean up/paint my kitchen and that if I buy the paint, he would reimburse me for the paint. That was 18 months ago, and I am still waiting to have my kitchen painted. I bought the paint and it is still in a box waiting for the "boys" to fix what they ruined. While hanging the cabinet doors, the young helper was using an electric drill which slipped and left a gouge in the frame. The young helper used an electric drill to put the hardware and drawer fronts on . . . he was not very careful. He stripped many screws and splintered the wood on the inside which I had to go back over and use stain to cover the splinters/gouges. When I had Craig, Jr. come back to show him the flaws in his work that I expected fixed -- he accused me of making the gouge on the cabinet frame and distressing the other doors. It is clear from the way that the paint was taken off the hardware and where the gouge sits on the frame that the young man with the electric drill was the cause for the gouge. I pointed the under spraying or "bald" spots on many of the surfaces, the dings (distressed wood), cabinet door sides not having any of the new coating applied (which showed the old finish underneath), the tops of the drawer fronts and sides not having any of the new finish applied, cabinet doors side by side did not have the same intensity of color thus making the cabinet doors not match (Now mind you, those doors matched before and when they were new), and the list went on . . . to which young Craig called me "pickyoune". Then he proceeded to school me on refinishing and how woods works . . . little did he know that one of my hobbies is furniture refinishing and the excuses he was giving me were just that. EXCUSES for shoddy workmanship. These people are amateurs . . . these people must have had a lucky moment when they finished the Steinway. There is no attention to detail. On the wall of cabinetry, I have an open bookshelf . . . young Craig left it unfinished. The newly finished cabinet color is an expresso while the old finish underneath was a faded walnut color. Craig, Jr. left that open bookshelf alone not thinking anything about that. I had to specifically ask Craig, Sr. to finish it in the same color. That alone speaks to their lack of attention to detail. Too, they left the underside of a bank of cabinets the old color which you could clearly see the color difference when you sit at the table . . . another example of there is no attention to detail. These people are not professionals. These people have no customer service skills. The father sells the job and the inexperienced youngsters come in and botch the job! read more

I hired C & M because I was impressed by their website, and pictures. Even though I saw reviews that were negative, I still gave them a try. First off, they took about a week longer than originally said and didn't communicate the delay with me. I had to reach out to them for an update. This wasn't a big deal for me but something you should know if you're considering them. Second, and this is where it all went bad -- the day they brought my doors and drawers back and lacquered my cabinet bases. Basically, the job is terrible. My cabinet doors and drawers are actually in worse shape now than before they touched them. I asked them to fill the hardware holes because we are going with a new style hardware. They filled the holes on the front of the drawers and doors but left them unfilled on the backside. Every time you open the doors, you see holes that shouldn't be there. And this is a huge deal, especially since they touted they were the best and that my cabinets would come back better than from the factory. In addition to this, my cabinets door and drawers actually have gouges in them that weren't there before. In fact, my cabinets were in perfect shape -- we only wanted to change the color from a stained wood to white. And one of my doors has a slight crack now. Clearly attention to detail and true quality work is not in their wheelhouse. On top of this, you can see through to my old cabinet color in some spots and there was a bunch of over-spray onto my new wood floors. The biggest thing I noticed right away was that the doors and drawers they took with them are a slightly different shade of white from the cabinet base that they lacquered on site. When I called and spoke to Craig Jr., and explained all the problems, he immediately got defensive and instead of telling me he would fix the situation, began to explain that they have time into my project and wanted to get the balance they were owed. Instead of going back and forth, I got off the phone and told him I'd call him Monday (This was a Friday). Later that night, Craig Sr. called me, and then called again the next day until I finally called him back. He seemed very eager to fix the situation and wanted to come out right away to correct what was wrong. Said he wanted to use me as a reference and make me happy. I want to believe that he was genuine, but somehow I doubt he would of been that eager if I didn't owe a $2,000 balance. I told him I'd think about what I wanted to do and would call him Tuesday of the next week. In the meantime, I had several people come over to look at the cabinets, including an independent company. The independent company told me the reason my cabinets felt like sandpaper was that the did not spray them in a "negative air" room. And they pointed out several other issues I didn't notice that would affect the longevity of the finish. So the more days that went on, the more issues I saw with the cabinets. At this point I didn't feel like they were capable of fixing this. BUT, they tried to sue me in small claims court that was two hours away from me for the balance so instead of going through all of that, I let them come back to fix things. BIG MISTAKE! Well, the cabinet doors are still a different shade of white than the cabinet base, some doors are a different shade of white from other doors and the cabinet base, there is over spray, and the lacquer rubs off semi-easily. I don't think the sanded the wood properly or primed the wood. Well, I ended up paying them the balance, and that was a BIGGER mistake. When I got home to see the "fix", I called and asked them to come back again to fix everything again, and they agreed to. Well, the day before they were to come out to fix things again, they called saying their shop got broken into and they can't come but that they would call in a few days to schedule a new day. Three weeks later I had to reach out to them because I never heard from them again. Then it took me three days and three calls to get them on the phone. Finally we rescheduled a new day. Two days before they were to come out for the third time, I called to confirm the time of day. No answer. I called both Craig Sr. and Craig Jr. over and over, even texting them. No answer. Then around noon on the day they were supposed to be at my house I called from another number and got them on the phone. They said to call them Monday as they were on a big job and could not make it. Before I let Craig Sr. off the phone I asked what the color was and the brand of lacquer. Craig Sr. said it was from Sherwin Williams and he didn't have the color but it could be matched. That's funny because I gave them the exact color to use and it's very obvious they did not use the shade of white I requested. As I thought, they aren't eager at all to fix things after they are paid in full. Don't be a sucker like me and fall for their "I used to finish baby grand pianos" and "the nice guy sales pitch". With that being said I cannot express my total disappointment with c&m restoration We hired them to stain our cabinets to match a cabinet we had bought for our kitchen we gave him a cabinet to take with him to match the color No problem he says ok so now we wait and wait and wait ( the only time he came to our house quick was when he wanted the deposit) he was going to bring a sample so we could see the color well nope he comes the color is a little light ok no problem he says again going to make it darker and bring you a sample nope again comes puts cabinets doors up some are light some are dark mind you it looked like a 5 year old painted them so now we are going to take the dark ones back and make them light again ugh! This was going to be about a week nope 3 weeks later we have to call he comes no he said he would come do some other but instead sent a worker to install them now we have cabinets that are not the color we were promised the insides are a disaster unfinished every time I open a cabinet I have to look at this mess and also when the cabinet doors were put back on the screws are crooked so the made a lot of noise and just are not the same I am so sorry we ever hired this company and hope that if you are reading this and thinking of hire them don't read more

Reviews and interaction with the owner brought us to using this company for the restoration of our kitchen cabinets in a recently purchased home. The owner Craig assured us that despite the distance traveled to us in NY and the schedule we needed to maintain for multiple contractors before we moved in (Floors refinished, interior/deck painting/repair, electrical upgrades, etc) that this would be a quick and painless process and that we'd be 100% satisfied with their work. That was the last we saw from Craig the owner. His son Craig now had the reigns. A project that was supposed to take less than a few weeks and scheduled in between contractors turned into a couple months which lasted into our move. Needless to say we are less than thrilled about the "finished" product. We have a 9'x12' kitchen of natural pine cabinets, hardwood floors, viking stove and sub-zero fridge. All original with the purchase and albeit a small project, a project they accepted. We wanted to clean things up with painting the cabinets, installing soft-close hardware, change out some door panels with glass and add new knobs and pulls. C&M provided us with a company they partner with for the cabinet hardware/knobs and pulls and said they'd knock it out in a few weeks; first by taking the doors with them to paint in their shop, install the glass panels and then await our selection of hardware. They reinstalled the doors and drawers with soft-close ($85 a door/drawer) and painted the cabinets in the kitchen. They advised once the hardware came in they would come back and install and permanently attached the drawer faces and kick plates. We paid them in-full. Mistake. After getting paid, it then took several weeks of back and forth with them to correctly select door hardware, asking us to call the company and pretend we worked for them so we could order it ourselves. Because of the lack of correspondence and in the interest of expediency we eventually had to use different manufacturers because we needed to purchase samples before making a final decision. It would take days if not an entire week to get a hold of CandM to ask when they would return to finish the job after we had the hardware in hand. Even though the kitchen was not in use, the small glass panels that were apparently poorly installed had begun falling out. We also realized some door colors didn't match the others. Also, several soft close drawers wouldn't work correctly and again, attempts to contact them to install the door/drawer hardware (needed holes drilled/filled for new types of knobs/pulls) would go unanswered for days if not past a week. Mind you, they were to start in June and finish as late as mid-July. We even had them come in prior to our mid-June closing for the consult. It was now the second week of August and we had begun moving in. Several days after moving in, they showed. We asked them to be extremely careful with the recently finished floors since the original intent was for them to finish before they were done. Regardless, the younger Craig and one of his buddies touched up some missed spots in the kitchen with the paint sprayer, installed the knobs and pulls and were out of here in under two hours while I ran errands and my wife continued emptying boxes. Upon inspection, they had dripped paint thinner drops and paint splatter all over the recently finished kitchen floor, viking stove top, wine fridge and a couple passes with the sprayer covered the normally stainless louvers of the Sub-Zero refrigerator with paint. The glass looked like it was installed by somebody in a hurry as their is adhesive all over but at least they haven't been guillotines like before. Upon closer observation, my wife immediately called Craig the son back after he left to advise him of these issues. Once I returned I called both his cell, texted him, called their office line and emailed them over the course of the day asking them as to how they would remedy these issues. To this point, two and a half weeks later, we have not heard from them and will fix it ourselves. I hate writing these things b/c it means somebody's livelihood is being called into question, but we paid for a service and had expectations. I am sick of sub-par "professionals" hoping you don't have the time or desire to chase them down. What makes it worse is their lack of response. We really don't/didn't have the time to chase them around as we both work very long hours, but feel its important, as lengthy as it was to read, to make sure you know what you are going to get. I am sure the father has built a great reputation but in all appearances, he is giving his 20 something year old son the small jobs and it is biting him in the @$$. I know exactly where the other 1 star review came from because we had a very similar experience. We had multiple problems with Craig Jr not returning calls and not showing up when he said he would. He works with his 2 buddies in their 20's who obviously have little expertise . If they are not joking and cursing they are arguing with each other. Once he sent one of these kids alone who worked at a snail's pace from 10am to 9:45 at night and of course still did not complete the work. Another time it was 2 kids unsupervised all day who then promised to come back the next morning to complete and did not show. Craig Sr seemed to be not interested as he never showed up at our job although did respond by phone to our complaints. I could go on with details of mixed up orders, delays, broken promises, and poor quality work . I normally would not post this kind or review as I don't want to hurt anyone's business but these guys are terrible. read more

We recently decided to refinish out kitchen cabinets. We have 30 year old solid oak cabinets that were probably top of the line when they were installed. Most places recommended that we replace the doors with MDF laminates and add new veneers to the cabinets themselves. It didn't seem to make sense to replace solid wood with laminates, so we called C and M to see about refinishing. The price they quoted was 1/3 the the price others gave us to replace the doors and cover the cabinets with veneer. Once we decided to go with C and M, they showed up, gave us suggestions on how best to update the cabinets, installed new crown molding, and completely changed the look of the kitchen. Within two weeks the job was completed as promised. They gave us a 5 year warranty, and offered to come back and replace the kickplates after we had our new floor installed. They stuck within the price they quoted, within the times they quoted, and we couldn't be happier.
