It's just a regular book store, but something about Orell Fussli is special. Maybe because the books are in German, and it's multiple stories and fun to ride the elevator. Maybe it's because there are nice couches around to sit and read the books, or maybe because there's a Starbucks too so you can have a coffee while you're enjoying your book. I don't know, but I love it. When things were a bit rough a month ago I'd just come here, and everything bad would go away. Orell Fussli is the perfect medicine. :) It's also right in the middle of Zurich. If you're wanting an English book store there's another Orell Fussli English down the street. But I'm so over English books, those were so yesterday. just kidding I've bought a few things from here. The Lion King DVD in German, a German cook book, a calendar, and a few cards. It's really a lovely store. Ich liebe Orell Fussli. Ich finde diese Ort warm und prima. Die Bucher sind nett und die Leute auch. Ich komme hier wenn ich traurig bin und dann bin glucklich ich. It's self-serve with many drink and food options. It's also a good spot for studying, working, or to relax with family and friends. I like this cafe a lot, and would recommend stopping by. The food and the drinks are okay, but it's more the atmosphere the scores the points.

Even if it's a book cafe, most people here just come in for drinks and hanging out. During the day, you see some working/studying here. Good and reasonably priced cappuccino (can choose small 4.50 CHF or large5.xx CHF) and wine/beer (less than 7 CHF). Muslie was great but haven't tried other food. you can pick up some pre-made salad or sandwiches. Great to sit outside or backside to hang out.

Maybe not everyone speaks a perfect English there, but you find a distinct part of the shop dedicated to English books, comics, magazines and zeitgeist unavailable elsewhere. Price-wise everyone finds something from the small budget to the high-end collector or the one who is desperately looking for a special birthday gift such as a playboy magazine from the 70'.

While tripping around Kreis 3 yesterday, I came across this tidy, little English-language bookshop…read more pile of books is comprised of three rooms connected by wide corridor, a fourth room is staff-only. If I didn't know any better, then I'd say that the space may have been converted from a house many moons ago. From the street, one enters into the fiction room. Directly next to the fiction area seemed to be a room consisting mostly of biography and music, and beyond both of those front spaces is the used book room at the back of the shop. There are tables set-up in each space with book displays, antique books are tucked here and there, and, in the used book area, stands a chair for one to plop down in while thumbing through second-hand reads. pile of books reminds me of independent bookshops in uni-towns across the US, and I love it. If one is keen on finding both new and used books, both bestseller and obscure titles, then a visit to POB is worth one's time. POB also holds singer/songwriter musical events either out front during warmer months, or, in the winter season, in one of the front rooms of the book shop. Note: POB is closed from 13.00-15.00 Monday through Friday.
