It has been there for over a hundred years and the interior is very nice and inviting. They have a good selection of cakes and desserts and of course a savoury menu as well. Before we did our walking tour, we had a bit of free time so my wife and I hit up this mall to find some stuff for her. While she did that shopping, I stopped off at Kreutzkamm and had a slice of apple cake and one slice of one of the cakes known in that area. Can't remember the name, but it's got a lot of eggs in it and is very light and spongy. Anyhow, the apple cake was terrific and the I got the other cake more for my wife than for myself. It was pretty yummy, but you could taste a somewhat light egg flavor in every bite. I found the staff to be friendly enough. It's Germany, they aren't known to be immediately warm upon introduction. The only weird thing, I wasn't sure how the system worked. I ordered my food (in German) and she gave me a number and told me to take a seat. I did. I received my cakes, ate them, but I never received a bill. I could have gotten up and left and had free cake, but I'm too honest for that so I went to the counter and explained (in German) that I hadn't paid yet. They looked puzzled, asked what I ordered and then charged me accordingly. Kinda strange. It's a really cute setup on the inside. I wish it would have been a stand alone place rather than in a mall. It loses some character. I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting some good German tortes and not just simple coffee cakes like many of the mainstream bakeries offer.

But the vibe -- oh, the vibe. Warm, twinkly, Christmas everywhere. It's like stepping into a holiday postcard. Ambience is a 5-star win. And then the Green Vault Stollen swoops in like a hero. Moist, rich, spiced just right -- absolutely worth the stop. Another 5 stars. Bottom line: Emil Reimann shines when it sticks to what it does best -- stollen and festive charm. Skip the breakfast plates, soak up the Christmas spirit, and grab that stollen. Overall, 3 stars.

They might seem rigorous in their ways in terms of customer service but the food is very good here. This is a good excuse of a place or the best place to practice your German phrases. They only take cash. The selection of bread is varied but I can vouch for the sandwiches and the desserts. Do not expect ice cubes from this place, they just do not have any. Coffee and any way you like them made, they can make, hot or cold. Ask nicely, and don't forget to say "bitte". Free wifi as well. There are additional seating upstairs, it is to your right on a flight of stairs as you enter the cafe. If you like sugar with your cappucino ask for sugar. They do not have a counter with sugar and napkins and all that; you just have to ask. The ladies there are very nice, the younger ones speak english; and they speak it very well. I find this place so typical German in service, no nonsense "just tell me what you want and I give it to you" with no fuss kind of place. I had a slice of their Mohn-Sahneschnitte and I had to go back a few hours later to have another one, it was that good. The cream-filling was light, not too sweet but the poopy seed filled cake and the crunchy toffee pieces with the bits of chocolate touch on top was d-i-v-i-n-e. I also had their mozza and tomato sandwich (triangular in shape) it was so good. The lettuce was crunchy (in winter?!) and the tomato was perfect and the mozza was so very good with the exceptional cheese bread. They also make very good cappucino ( note that Starbucks was a few feet away). The glass it was served on was also a conversation piece. Nice touch. Dresden has a lot of hidden treasures when it comes to places to eat for cheap, and this place is one of them. I ate here and had coffee as often as I can while in Dresden. I can safely say, I will be back. And next time I will be armed with a few more phrases to praise them for the great pastries they have. They were serving a wide selection of teas for winter (March 2018). Fruit infused and others mostly with berries; I saw green tea as an option as well. They had soups and salads also. Bread galore! Before closing time, a young lady goes around to all the seated customers to remind them that the cafe will be closing in a few minutes and that you better hurry up and finish that cup of coffee. I liked that. As I've said, I like the directness but the food was very good as well.
