Cheap coffee for your caffeine fix on campus! If you bring your own mug they'll fill it for just a dollar(!). Cant beat prices like that on campus. Their lunch hours are also extended from 11:30 to 3pm now.

Delicious pizzas! The apple, brie, and bacon one sounded weird, but it was oddly good! The sandwiches are awesome as well. The line isn't too bad around lunch time and they promptly bring out your food! I enjoy having lunch here. Next time I want to try some of the pastries and coffee.

My go-to place for a lunch on campus. On the first floor of the Packard building, Bytes has enough variety with frequent enough changes in its menu that you could go every day without getting bored. If you work or study on campus and eat out a lot, that kind of variety makes it a better bet than Coupa; it's slightly cheaper than Nexus ($7 vs $8); and is more flexible than a Dining Hall (can get takeout). Of the salads, the Harvest salad is the best (the combination of apricots, cranberries and walnuts is amazing), but I've also heard good things about the Thai and Caesar salads. I haven't heard too many good things about the pizzas, but the shrimp one is unique - just prepared to wait a bit longer for your order! The specials can be hit or mess: anything Asian-sounding is usually pretty pitiful, while the pastas and Mexican-sounding ones (e.g., quesadillas) tend to be better. In the end, the sandwiches are my favorite. The cuban roast pork is a Bytes specialty, especially if you like pickled cabbage. For my money, the chicken sandwich is the best though. Especially when they make it with the roasted chillies...que rico! The house pasta salad that it comes with has elicited mixed reactions from my friends: some hate the raw onion and capers, while others find it a nice compliment to the sandwich (I like it!). Lines can be long during lunch, so try to go before (11:30am) or after (1:30pm). If you must go during lunch, there's a small lull around 12:30pm, so try to hit that spot! I find 1pm is the worst since there's a slight backlog in all the orders. Enjoy your lunch!

Bytes is located in the Packard Electrical Engineering at Stanford University on the west side of campus. It's a small little cafe that serves breakfast and lunch. Their breakfast burritos are amazing - I guarantee you will be full if you can finish it! It is full of delicious cheese, egg, salsa, and I recommend getting it with bacon or chorizo. Their lunch menu is pretty much the same every time, with a few specials here and there. There is an assortment of pizza, sandwiches, soups, and salads. In my opinion, for how long the line gets during lunch (upwards of 25+ people...goes out the door) i recommend just going to nexus cafe across the street by the med school, or to the thai food place in the quad, or ikes. Those places are at most equally as long, but I think the food is a little better.

Their salads are pretty good and it's a relatively efficient line, especially during lunch time.

Everything was beautifully presented. The workers were friendly too! Their items were a bit pricey, but worth it for the quality. Their spiral croissants were so much better than Fancy Flavors. It was flaky, buttery, and filled with delicious pistachio cream. This spot is especially great for more traditional flavors. The Anton Hokkaido Milk Crepe Cake wasn't overly sweet and the cream was light and fluffy. It was perfectly up to my standards when it comes to sweetness. I'd definitely come back again even if I'm willing to hurt my wallet because the sweets are just too hard to resist.

My family and I stopped by Marvel Cake during Mother's Day for a sweet treat on Sunday. This location is in the strip of Downtown Palo Alto and has limited parking (similar to the rest of the stores there, there is a lot of parking, and you will need to get lucky). My mom does like the Marvel Cake in their first location, so we swung by here to try this one out! Location-wise, this is a smaller shop than the original one in West San Jose with limited seating inside. I would say it's not work from home friendly however, I did see a college student next to me on her laptop so maybe I am incorrect here! The interior is nice and light, matching the elegance of the desserts. We ordered three items on the menu: the pillow cake, the bisou, and the blueberry lavender roll. Here are some thoughts: * Pillowcase cake: It may seem like this would be a fluffy cake due to the nature of its shape, but it is a gelatinous Jell-O cake with fruit jam. It was not bad, and tasted refreshing and light. I didn't know if I liked it at first, but ultimately I did come back for seconds and thirds, so this is approved. * Blueberry lavender roll cake: This was not at all what we were expecting. I did not taste any lavender, nor did it have a strong blueberry flavor. I think what threw our party off was the layer of gelatin that surrounded the cake. Texturally, we were not a big fan. * Bisou: This one was our favorite one. I appreciated the nutty crust in the bottom layer of the cake, while the filling was soft and bouncy. It is very sweet, however, but overall, I really enjoyed this one and feel like it would go great with a cup of coffee. What made the experience here a 3 instead of a 4 or 5 was the service we got. We weren't greeted when we came in, which, to be fair, is totally fine, maybe they were busy. However, the person helping us stared at us the whole time and did not really communicate well with us. When I tried to order the cakes for my family, they looked bothered that we were there, and I was not sure if they understood what pastries I was ordering because they did not repeat it back to us at all or confirm anything. When I did place the order, they slowly grabbed the plates and looked visually confused, which again, if they wanted to, I could have repeated it back to them. After they gathered everything, they put it in front of us and rang me up. The whole time, they did not say a word to me at all. Did not reconfirm anything, did not acknowledge we were there, did not say thank you. It was a bit strange, and I had to check with my family if it was me or if that was a really weird experience (it wasn't me).

We always ask for a table with chairs because I have back problems and can't sit in their totally worn booths and the host has never had a problem with that request. But yesterday the regular host wasn't there and we were told they were busy and we had to sit at the counter or in a booth because they didn't want to put us the two of us at a table for four (there were two tables available). We waited for nearly ten minutes and when I asked again if we could sit at one of the tables was almost rudely told no, they were busy. So we left and went to Joanie's on California Avenue. They were also busy but immediately seated us and we had a much better lunch. Sometimes it's good to change things up as we'd forgotten how kind and attentive all the of the staff are at Joanie's and how much better the food was. And both of our plates of food came out hot and perfectly cooked which doesn't always happen at the Creamery. I guess we just eat there for the memories. My husband said none of the staff at the Creamery seem happy except for the host so if we don't see him seating the guests, we'll just go to Joanie's.
