I Went in to Correct ONE Tooth. I walked away losing MY SMILE!…read more
I've lost a house before. I've lost a car before. But I never imagined one of the most painful losses of my life would be my smile.
I originally came to Dr. Bonebreak to correct ONE tooth. I trusted his professional judgment, followed every instruction, attended my appointments, took time off work without pay, and visited my regular dentist every other month for cleanings costing approximately $200 each to ensure greatness. Between treatment, lost wages, and related expenses, I estimate this cost me well over $10,000.
I did everything I was supposed to do. And I deeply regret ever beginning treatment here at Flagship Orthodontics.
My lower left teeth now look noticeably different from my lower right teeth. Some appear tilted inward and overlapping. My alignment is uneven, my midline is off, and I'm very unhappy with my teeth and smile. I also have dark buccal corridors on both sides of my smile that make it appear narrow and unbalanced, a very dark space on both sides.
When I brought these concerns to Dr. Bonebreak, he acknowledged seeing what I was pointing out. Yet instead of providing meaningful answers, I felt he repeatedly deflected. He flipped through photographs of other patients' mouths, pulled up images, and compared my teeth to other patients' teeth, seemingly suggesting my situation could be worse.
I wasn't there to discuss someone else's smile. I was there because I was devastated by mine.
I specifically asked whether getting braces again or pursuing another orthodontic treatment could help. He said no. Instead, he discussed breaking my jaw, surgery at Johns Hopkins, spending days in the hospital, and shaving down my teeth. It felt like he was making it sound as extreme as possible to deflect.
Then came the comment that hurt the most. He suggested I have to start adjusting the way I smile. REREAD THAT AGAIN. His remedy is that I adjust my smile to hide the result of his treatment! Unbelievable. Then he said come back and see him in a month if I need to talk. For what? To talk about how I feel I've been wronged? It felt like pure manipulation.
I'm 54 years old. I've been smiling this way my entire life. To spend thousands of dollars correcting my teeth and then be told to change the way I've naturally smiled for 54 years felt like a direct insult. I do a podcast, and my smile looks horrible on camera.
I didn't pay an orthodontist to teach me how to smile. I paid him to correct my tooth.
So I got a second opinion. Another orthodontist examined me and told me this CAN be corrected with braces. No breaking my jaw. No Johns Hopkins. No days in the hospital. The very treatment I was told wouldn't help. Now I'm facing thousands more out of pocket to fix the result of treatment I already paid for.
What I find particularly troubling is that this dentist has been recognized as one of the top dentists, yet my experience left me feeling unheard, dismissed, and devastated.
The money hurts. The lost time hurts. But neither compares to looking in the mirror and feeling uncomfortable with my own smile. I would pay millions to have that smile back. My tears are flowing as I write this review.
I wish I had never started this treatment. I wish Dr. Bonebreak never touched me. If you're considering treatment here, get a second opinion first.
This is my honest account of what happened in that office. I do not recommend this orthodontist.
