Although a unisex hair salon, Byers and Birrell would obviously best be reviewed by a girl. But since no girl has yet reviewed it, here goes, although I am not an expert on hairdressing so please excuse me if I am not using the correct terms to describe it.
I went to this place not long ago to get some blond streaks put in my hair. I wanted to try it out, after hearing good words about it from my family; both my brother (who gets his hair dyed a fiendishly black colour every month despite it still being dark enough from his last visit) and my mum (who takes a 4-hour round trip by car and ferry every couple of months, go figure!).
Although service at B & B is by appointment only, you will often find that due to cancelled bookings, appointments can be made with as short notice as the day before. As soon as I arrived at the busy salon for my appointment I was already impressed with the service - being pleasantly greeted, had my coat taken off for me and directed to a couch to wait, with a magazine and the choice of complimentary tea or coffee to boot.
Opting for a cut and colour, the whole process took little over an hour, which isn't bad considering I opted for the proper streaks. This involved having a shower cap-type thing put over my head and the individual strands pulled out one by one (ow!). Sore but par for the course anywhere you get it done.
The young ladies in charge of my hair for the day were polite and friendly (plus other attributes aside). They did a very good job, with the highlights being bright and still prominent a good couple of months later. And to cap it all off, the price was quite reasonable too and I even got a student discount.
Definitely worth a visit. read more
