Have had sooo many compliments! Looking forward to going back which is rare for me as I find visiting hairdressers quite unnerving. Thanks so much!

Probably the worst service i've ever received... I went to Coia hairdressing to book in with my…read moreusual stylists - and the only person I would trust to take my blonde hair to a rich copper - on arrival I explained who I was there to see and since she was with a client at the time, the two employees on the front desk suggested that, while I wait, I had a look through the different colours of copper they had available. We had a chat and before I could speak to my stylist I was booked in for the following Tuesday. I was surprised on arrival that the hairdresser I asked for was no where to be seen and I had in fact been booked in with a 21 year old student - who i've since learned, had only just received his colouring certificates - I explained I wanted loads of tones and shades of warm coppery colours. So, naturally I was expecting highlights and lowlights of varying colours (I was quoted £120 for this at the time of book in). Instead I received an all over colour slapped in from the root of my hair to the ends - I assume this was done to save them time, which pretty much sums up the quality of this hairdressers - the end result was a bright crass red at the top and carrot orange at the bottom. It was awful... and incredibly flat due to one colour being used all over (think box dye sort of look). To top it off, despite me saying several times that i wanted hardly anything off the end, say literally a cm or so. My hair was cut by about an inch and a half, taking my long hair to medium length. Finally I was charged £135 - so £15 over what I was quoted for highlights and lowlights (which shocked me as highlights would take a lot more time and talent than slapping one colour all over my hair and i know now I was over charged for this treatment). I was so embarrassed, I ran home with my hood up. Following this I reached out to the owner Angela... the response I got was hostile and she even went as far to accuse me of lying and suggested that I was actually in there for a 'colour correction', as opposed to a colour change (bear in mind, my hair was blonde and going copper...). A lot of the messages i received didn't make sense and were just strange in general. She has since refused to respond to my emails. The amount of damage to my hair and the money this visit has caused me is enough to put you off going to the hairdressers in general. I'd suggest going a couple minutes up the road to Thomas Ionta or Ellen Conlin, both provide superior treatments at less of an expense. I know from talking about this experience that I'm not the only one thats had a terrible time here - so hopefully I save someone the drama!!

Although a unisex hair salon, Byers and Birrell would obviously best be reviewed by a girl. But…read moresince no girl has yet reviewed it, here goes, although I am not an expert on hairdressing so please excuse me if I am not using the correct terms to describe it. I went to this place not long ago to get some blond streaks put in my hair. I wanted to try it out, after hearing good words about it from my family; both my brother (who gets his hair dyed a fiendishly black colour every month despite it still being dark enough from his last visit) and my mum (who takes a 4-hour round trip by car and ferry every couple of months, go figure!). Although service at B & B is by appointment only, you will often find that due to cancelled bookings, appointments can be made with as short notice as the day before. As soon as I arrived at the busy salon for my appointment I was already impressed with the service - being pleasantly greeted, had my coat taken off for me and directed to a couch to wait, with a magazine and the choice of complimentary tea or coffee to boot. Opting for a cut and colour, the whole process took little over an hour, which isn't bad considering I opted for the proper streaks. This involved having a shower cap-type thing put over my head and the individual strands pulled out one by one (ow!). Sore but par for the course anywhere you get it done. The young ladies in charge of my hair for the day were polite and friendly (plus other attributes aside). They did a very good job, with the highlights being bright and still prominent a good couple of months later. And to cap it all off, the price was quite reasonable too and I even got a student discount. Definitely worth a visit.

I was introduced to my lovely stylist, Lisa, and she sat patiently with me while I worked out what I wanted to get done. I tend to be indecisive so it was so nice to have her give me advice and talk through different options. The space is small, but their team of stylists make it work. They offer a wide range of teas and coffees and continually make sure you are doing well. I'm naturally blonde and have been getting highlights for years. I wanted something a bit brighter and a bolder overall blonde - Lisa nailed it. I'm definitely coming back here. Also, they offer a student discount! Good stuff.

Nothing close to what I asked for and the layers on one aide of my head are actually several inches longer than the other. This was with thanks to Ryan W. who posted on the Talk thread about Hely Hair's 50% discount on…read morecolour. I thought I desperately need a hair cut, I haven't been to a hairdressers in six months. I know, pretty bad!! I normally colour it myself but I thought, let's give the Hely Hair family peeps a go. I first went along to check it out and see if I could book an appointment. I was greeted by a lovely girl who said I could have a consultation there and then with their colourist, Carrie Anne. She was absolutely delightful and so down to earth. I always worry that the more expensive a place, the more posh they'll be making me feel really intimidated. There was none of that at all. Carrie Anne brought out the colour book and I explained the colours I like and have had previous. It was weird for me as I have never used my phone pics before and she had her iPad with previous clients hair colours and style, so between us both we compared to get a better idea of what would be best and what I liked. So modern! Hehe!! They were very busy, appointments wise, but I managed to book in on the last day of the 50% colour sale deal. Phew! I had opted to go with four different colours. Why not?! Hely Hair isn't too far from Hyndland Train Station and there's plenty of lovely places for a coffee and bite to eat, so, is well located. Again, as I arrived on H-Day, I was greeted by lovely smiling faces and then taken up to the mezzanine level to be seated and prepped for Carrie Anne. She was spot on and had a good note of what we went through the previous week. We then just picked a base colour then the magic began. I also had another girl helping out on my colour, I believe her name was Erin, she was absolutely lovely too. I felt like a proper lady getting pampered. They were fast and efficient and the only waiting time was the development. I was made sure I had a wee cuppa and some magazines to pass the time. I also enjoy just taking in the atmosphere and people watching, seeing what other clients are having done. They said they don't have too many customers who come in for bright colours so they enjoyed the experience with a real excitement themselves to see the results. Well, with a wash, snip and fabulous blow dry style I felt wonderful and the end result was beautiful. To me I felt like a velvet cherry. Hehe!! My hair looked amazing, just like velvet, and the colours were so rich. I officially name this look 'The Velvet Cherry'. In the end it was a little more pricey than expected even with the 50% discount, my fault in I should have asked for a quote first as I did have a few colours. I don't go to hairdressers often so it makes up for all those lost appointments and I get my hair back to a healthy, more manageable, state with gorgeous colours. A massive thanks to the girls and I would definitely go back, even just for a cut and blow dry as it was that good. I'm off to swoosh my luscious locks once more.

If you have curly hair, you will know how difficult it can be to find a good hairdresser. Experts…read moresay that you should go to a hairdresser that has curly hair herself, but short of hanging around outside salons in dark glasses, this can be more easily said than done. Especially as most hairdressers now have a uniformed GHDed hair style. I decided to try Hair at Hart because it was inexpensive and conveniently located for me. (It's just by Morrison's off Dumbarton Road). I popped in on Tuesday afternoon and was told that I could either come back in 20 mins and have my hair cut, or I could make an appointment for the following morning. Perfect! When I arrived at Hair at Hart for my haircut, I was the only customer. I had a shampoo and cut (no blow dry - if another hairdresser ever trys to use a diffuser on me I might cry. It makes me look like a poodle) which set me back a grand total of £11. Not bad, no?! The assistant and the hairdresser herself were friendly, and chattered away about the X-Factor while they cut my hair. Although I ended up losing a lot more hair than I wanted to, I've come to expect that from hairdressers - and overall it was a good cut. She seemed to understand curly hair, and I felt quite confident about what she was doing. One day later, and my hair has been left in a really nice shape. If you're looking for a good cut at a really good price, Hair at Hart's is a great option.
