We went in with a level of excitement but as soon as we made it underground, and away from the light of the entrance, the mood changed and we were completely immersed within another time and dimension. While the architecture and history alone make the space worth visiting, the current exhibit pulls out from within you, emotions and awareness you may not have ever harnessed. It is truly, truly, something you must see! I had researched the Cisternerne for quite some time prior to our trip, and it lined up perfectly with our morning at the zoo, as it was right across the street. The park above the exhibit is absolutely beautiful, and lends no insight to what lies below it.

For a unique experience while in Copenhagen, book the Cisternerne exhibit boat tour. Here's why:…read more 1) History; First of all, the Cisternerne has an interesting history. Built in the middle of the 19th century, this underground reservoir once supplied the entire city with drinking water. Once abandoned, the space is now an exhibition space. 2) Art: My friend and I went when Tomás Saraceno did his "Event Horizon" exhibit. Rowing a little boat through the exhibit, you're asked to remain silent and be present as you go through the water. You'll pass art that creates light and sound adding to the space's darkness. It's so unique! 3) Location: It's right next to the Frederiksberg Palace, a yellow 1735 palace with gardens that are popular with walkers and runners. Take time before or after the Cisternerne to explore the area. If you go, note that rowing is at your own pace. They recommend 40 minutes, but once you reach the end, you're done! My friend and I felt like we were rowing slowly, but it only took us 20 minutes. We felt like we didn't get the full experience. We wished we had stopped at more spots to sit and enjoy the exhibit.

So they basically sold twice the amount of seats available in a room. With my friends we realized we were double booked. Anyway they handled the situation in a remarkable way ! They opened a second room so we could all see the movie and knit, they offered us free a free drink or popcorn...and they waited for everyone to be in the room to start the movie. Because of that double booking it took quite some time to solve the problem and they waited for us. What kind of cinema waits for its customers to start a movie. This was an example of customer service.

We actually stopped by just for the beautiful cafe to enjoy an afternoon coffee. I was told I would have to leave it in the lobby to enter, which obviously wouldn't work for me for such an occasion. I was not aware of this rule, and the gentleman who'd scanned our passes clearly didn't wish to converse about its purpose...just a no period. After leaving I saw on their website about large bags not being allowed (the cushion isn't large, just a flat square) and that they'll decide which will be allowed inside. While I understand the need for this type of rule, I wish I'd been allowed to explain. My husband told him we were only visiting the cafe, and I tried to show him the cushion and wanted to explain, but was dismissed before I had the opportunity. Most places I've been to seem to accommodate for certain things like this, but unfortunately not here. A shame, I very much wanted to visit.

Empire is a favourite among lot's of movie fans in Copenhagen. The vipe of the theater is very laid back, and beside the normal candy, pop corn and soda, you can buy beer, and bubbles for your movie. The seats are nice, soft, and comfortable. The rear row are double seats, so you can site VERY close to your date (blink blink). Sound and screens are great. They feature main stream movies here. Remember we don't normal dub movies in Denmark, so tourists, and expats can catch a movie in the original language. I nearly gave Empire 3 stars, because of the cleaning standard at the toilets. It looks like, they have forgotten to vipe of the toilet bowl, and sinks for months.

Seats are comfortable, both theaters I've been in were really clean (none of the quintessential shoe-sticking that happens in other theaters), and a large amount of room in the aisles (good if you're a bit personal bubbly like me). Two quirks, at least coming from my experience in American theaters and in the two theaters I've been in at this place: 1) There is only one set of stairs in the theater, meaning you're better off choosing seats closer to the one set of stairs, unless you really like getting to movies early or climbing over everyone to get to your seats at the very end of the row. 2) The projector is situated so that if people in the back row are standing up, they can completely block the projected image. It hasn't been an issue in the films I've been to, but nothing can take you out of a movie like a shadow of a fellow movie goer.
