The physical museum used to be a castle, and that explains why there are so many rooms, one after another. I recommend looking at the overall map and pick a floor and a place to start, based on what interests you the most. Then, allow yourself to get lost in terms of going from one room to another. There are visual and historical treasures throughout the museum, so it would be nearly impossible to NOT find things of interest. I loved seeing the old crowns, jewelry, and clothing, as well as Viking horns for drinking, old weapons, and the creative way things are presented. I was impressed by this museum because they have used modern museum techniques to display objects and explanations. For example, in one room, they had talking paintings to convey information, or a knight on a horse, which makes horse noises out of the blue. They also have some very creative temporary exhibits, which you should check out. When I was there, there were very interactive displays that were all about money and how wealth is distributed around the world. It was thought provoking, as well as fun. When you need a rest, there is also a cafeteria overlooking the inside of the museum. Face it, you are not going to see it all. There is too much and you won't have the time or stamina to "do it all." But that's OK. It's definitely worth it to buy a ticket ($22 USD) to spend two hours or so, as we did.

We actually stopped by just for the beautiful cafe to enjoy an afternoon coffee. I was told I would have to leave it in the lobby to enter, which obviously wouldn't work for me for such an occasion. I was not aware of this rule, and the gentleman who'd scanned our passes clearly didn't wish to converse about its purpose...just a no period. After leaving I saw on their website about large bags not being allowed (the cushion isn't large, just a flat square) and that they'll decide which will be allowed inside. While I understand the need for this type of rule, I wish I'd been allowed to explain. My husband told him we were only visiting the cafe, and I tried to show him the cushion and wanted to explain, but was dismissed before I had the opportunity. Most places I've been to seem to accommodate for certain things like this, but unfortunately not here. A shame, I very much wanted to visit.

We went in with a level of excitement but as soon as we made it underground, and away from the light of the entrance, the mood changed and we were completely immersed within another time and dimension. While the architecture and history alone make the space worth visiting, the current exhibit pulls out from within you, emotions and awareness you may not have ever harnessed. It is truly, truly, something you must see! I had researched the Cisternerne for quite some time prior to our trip, and it lined up perfectly with our morning at the zoo, as it was right across the street. The park above the exhibit is absolutely beautiful, and lends no insight to what lies below it.

Built in the middle of the 19th century, this underground reservoir once supplied the entire city with drinking water. Once abandoned, the space is now an exhibition space. 2) Art: My friend and I went when Tomás Saraceno did his "Event Horizon" exhibit. Rowing a little boat through the exhibit, you're asked to remain silent and be present as you go through the water. You'll pass art that creates light and sound adding to the space's darkness. It's so unique! 3) Location: It's right next to the Frederiksberg Palace, a yellow 1735 palace with gardens that are popular with walkers and runners. Take time before or after the Cisternerne to explore the area. If you go, note that rowing is at your own pace. They recommend 40 minutes, but once you reach the end, you're done! My friend and I felt like we were rowing slowly, but it only took us 20 minutes. We felt like we didn't get the full experience. We wished we had stopped at more spots to sit and enjoy the exhibit.

I was not amazed, but it was nicely presented including the history behind each painting. From the permanent exhibits, I think only Damien Hirst's were kinda worthy. Except the damn dots!!!! My grandmother had a tablecloth like that from the 60's! There Chinese zodiac signs were also nice, but you cannot call this modern art. There were just shiny reprices of Haiyantang (18th century). I admit that I am not the biggest fan of modern art, but spraying a black line on a white canvas, is not art at all. It does not require talent, skill... or even effort. The only talent some of the exhibited artists have, is to present themselves as artist and make people believe them! Moreover, the cafeteria is a rip-off! You buy coffee and cake (around 80kr.) and the still charge you tap water for 10kr!

Museet enlightened me to the circle of museums in the area, I saw the historical home on the list. And I am a sucker for an historical home! The entrance is a little unassuming and I probably would have missed it, had it not been for the easy-to-follow directions from the lovely woman at the Storm P. museum. There was a tent-sign outside advertising their "Women Authors" exhibit, but it was all in Danish, and the name of the museum was one of the smallest things on the sign. I was about to walk on past it, but the words "Jane Austen" caught my eye when I skimmed the sign while walking. And then I saw at the tippy-top the name of the museum. It is absolutely charming. AND included with the Copenhagen Card! At the entrance desk, you can get a packet that has a map of the layout of the house, as well as general information about each of the rooms in English (thank youuuu!). The home was a private residence to a family that were lovers and supporters of the literary and artistic community in the early 1800s. Several prominent authors (including one Hans Christian Andersen) were visitors. Like I said, I love an historic home, so even without that prominence, old books and old furniture and original fixtures fascinate and are of interest to me! Everything was in good condition and lovely to see. Upstairs was the special "Women Authors" exhibit. Unfortunately, all the information up there was in Danish. But, you know....the museum *IS* in Denmark, so I can't really complain. There were some Austen-esque clothing pieces that were fun to see. And beyond all that, outside the house is surrounded by lovely, very well-kept gardens. In the old greenhouse/orangery there is a little cafe. It was painfully charming. If you are in the Frederiksberg area, and you have the time, I would absolutely recommend that you visit this home and museum. But if these things just aren't for you...pass it by.

Wow!!! Rundetaarn is on the Top Ten must see list when in Copenhagen. What makes " Round Tower" so…read morespecial and intriguing? I'm glad you asked... With its distinctive spiral ramp, the Round Tower has become a Danish landmark. Here are some notable facts and points of interest: 1.The Hollow Core: the shape of the tower was Denmark's geographical zero point. 2. There is an Observatory which houses a telescope built in 1929. 3. The Library Hall is used for changing exhibits, cultural events and concerts 4. The Spiral Ramp will get you to 10,000 steps easily; it is the only way to the top of the tower and spins 7 1/2 times around the Tower's hollow core. Believe me, you feel those twists as you climb. 5. The Bell Loft is situated above the Library Hall and two floors above the Trinity Church where the bells have rung for hundreds of years. 6. The Platform: once you climb the narrow stairs you are atop and can see all of Copenhagen's charms and Sweden. During the summer there is a kiosk that sells sweet treats 7. The Planetarium: shows the solar system I highly recommend visiting Rundetaarn. It is located in Norreport; beautiful shops and restaurants. Plus, it was raining so a good way to wait it out while taking in the sights. You walk up a gentle spiral to get a nice view of the city. Along the way, there are rooms you can stop in for art exhibitions, a view of the actual church (there was service going on when we were there), random alcoves, refreshments, and even the toilet. The place is clean and it wasn't overly crowded when we went on a weekday in the afternoon. Because of the gentler slope, it's friendly for all ages. The view isn't very high, but it's still pretty good! There are little "benches" along the way - in case you do need to rest or plan the next stop of your day. A good place to stop by to get a view of the city!

If you have even the slightest inclination for mechanical things, you should visit. The biggest…read moredraw is, of course, the massive 3-story diesel engine that is operated two Sundays a month. The explanations before the engine start are in Danish, so if you want to know the details, you'll have to read online beforehand. Because the engine is so large, it actually blocks your view of its moving parts. The two places with good views are the second story mezzanine directly facing the engine. Or, go all the way up to the fourth floor museum exhibit, and you'll get a clear view of the moving exhaust vales. Although from the fourth floor, you won't be able to hear the explanations or the engine, but you're also protected from the diesel fumes. Come at 10:30 for the 11 am start, as it's surprisingly popular and the viewing area is cramped. The museum itself presents a detailed history of the diesel engine and its role in Danish commerce, especially shipping (not surprisingly, naval themes are popular in Danish museums). But even more interesting are the working collection of model engines. Each one is beautifully made and wonderful to look at. Push a button and they move, with lights to show you when combustion takes place.

This museum is a perfect combination of art- but not just the art inside, but the building itself…read more Inside and out, it is an exhibition with equal level to the statues and exhibits inside. The ceilings especially, with no room the same, are bursting with colorful designs and patterns. Combine this with the floors, which are beautiful mosaics, you get an incredible atmosphere. Moving on from the building itself, the statues are all incredible. With an enormous array of art, it is hard to find something you don't like. Given, some are better than others (obviously), but I can assure you that you'll be able to learn a lot and see a lot walking around the building. Another thing to note is the personal collection of artifacts and books of the artist. It is filled with Greek and Roman pottery, coins, century-old books, and much more. This covers three or four rooms, and this is just as fascinating as the rest.
