Gawsworth Hall is a lovely stately home just outside Macclesfield, it is a black and white Tudor…read morestyle house and for a small fee you can go inside and take a look around the grand rooms and imagine what life was like a long time ago. The grounds are also beautiful and set next to a lake so if you fancy a walk or picnic on a sunny day then this is a great place to visit. Gawsworth Hall also hold a large range of concerts and theatre productions in the Summer, the ticket gives you free access to the grounds for a pre show picnic and also the undercover seating where you watch the show from. I attended one of these concerts with my husband over the weekend. We were impressed with the set up and thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the beautiful gardens with delicious food and a glass of prosecco. The show was very professional and the ticket price at £25 was reasonable. However you do get the impression that the same people come to these events every year and there is definitely a bit of a home counties feel about it. People seem to be in competition as to who has the largest gazebo and biggest magnum of champagne. Getting seated is a nightmare as apparently people arrive at 2pm to reserve seats using cushions or even more hilariously sticky labels with their names printed on. We were tempted to go up there and move them all about but thought we might be escorted out by the rather austere looking attendants. Enjoyed the day but think we might try a different venue for this type of concert next time.

They have a small bar which serves alcoholic and soft drinks and the prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly and the place is beautiful.

The performance involved on-stage storytelling and live music, mostly. The stage itself is modestly sized, as is the auditorium. If you are up for a more conventional theatrical "experience", look elsewhere. As far as experimental theatre and off-off.. stuff is concerned, this theatre might provide an intriguing diversion in what is otherwise not the most exciting city in terms of culture. The New Mills Art Theatre is a histric local theatre located in New Mills,High Peak,Derbyshire. It…read morehad it's grand opening on June 24th 1911 and amazingly still provides lots of small productions and regular entertainment today! The theatre seats around 500 and has a wide range of productions, from 'Big band' nights to christmas pantomimes. It also stages regular entertainment from the New Mills Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. The community have all worked together to keep this local theatre alive,the theatre also provides great opportunities and activities for children of the new mills and district community.

You park in the wooded car park and cross a lovely little bridge to get to the main grounds themselves. There is a little river that passes around the house with fish and ducks you can spot which are a good turning point for young children. You then enter a square where you can notice the fantastic old craftmenship on the outside of the building. The cobbled square houses the icecream stall, national trust shop and toilets. There are tours offered around the house however you can walk around in your own time if you wanted. Tour guides are usually dressed in costume (there are numbers of costume days throughout the year) to add to the atmosphere. Inside is as beautiful as the outside with the fabolous stain glass windows and original tudor furniture. The top floor has a large room which used to be a drawing/play room. The floor in this is famously uneven so be aware its not your legs that have given way below you! The grounds also hold outdoor theatre nights in tradition of the historical era it represents hosting particular favourites such as Romeo & Juliet. These are lovely to watch just difficult to prepare for in the British weather!

The gardens and moat all around the Hall are as attractive as the property itself. It is a national trust property, and is located near to Congleton on the A34. However depite being near to a busy road, you cant really hear much of the traffic because its set back quite a way. Especially nice to walk around on a warm summers day when all the birds are flying around, making you actually feel a little like an elizabethan wandering around the grounds.
