Great food from fresh ingredients. Serves wine. Can be busy and noisy but one of the best restaurants in Wexford.

I've been meaning to write this review for months…read more On Main Street. Stable Diet is the name of the company that produces grains and oatmeal and owns this and another restaurant in Wexford. The service was fast and friendly. The ambience is sort of reminiscent of Birkenstocks and granola. My wife says Stable Diet is "charming." Fabulous lunch with fresh ingredients. This is the opposite of the super processed, fast food available in restaurants up and down Main Street. Made to order sandwiches, quiche, soup, etc. Artisan bread. Save room for the excellent desserts.

The hotel wouldn't let us check in yet, so my wife and I wandered around, only wanting to lie down and/or eat something. We stumbled on Stable Diet and walked in because it looked familiar and comfortable, probably because in my jetlag I kept misreading the name as "Staple Deli." We got two americanos, a scone, and a "zesty" chicken focaccia. The coffee dispelled any myths we heard about Ireland's relationship to coffee. The "zesty" chicken was more coated in a sweet barbeque sauce, but it was fine and heathful. But it was the scone that gave us life. I've never had a "cream tea" before, never even had clotted cream. But this scone was perfectly warm and soft, served with the cream and jam. And after 19 hours of travel, it was so comforting I couldn't stand it. For that experience alone, I have to give this place five stars.

Arguably the best thing about this place is the decor and atmosphere. I've been to my share of cafes and I don't exaggerate at all when I say this one has the best style I've ever seen. I think it could probably be described as shabby chic, but I'm not an expert in these sorts of things. Tea was typical, nothing special but I didn't expect it to be. Not enough to detract from the 5-star rating and it certainly wasn't bad. Reasonably priced, I think it was about 4 Euro for a cute little teapot that had three cups' worth of tea. I was there awhile as I had to sign up for university courses that day and once I got peckish, but not hungry enough for a meal, I asked if it was too late to order a brownie. They were starting to wind down at that point and had every right to refuse but not only did they let me order-- they were also exceptionally polite and friendly while I did so. They were accommodating and lovely to their other customers too. I struck up a conversation with the owner and said the cafe was much better than any I'd been to in Canada; she seemed very pleased and said she would have to tell that to her Canadian friend. The brownie was so rich I couldn't finish it. This is in no way a fault of theirs-- I just filled up quicker than I thought I would! They offered cream too which I accepted, and it went very well with the warm brownie. tl;dr Personable and fast service, nice tea and great desserts, absolutely stellar decor. Absolutely stop by if you can.
