After exploring Kells Priory, we came here for in impromptu lunch. This building caught my eye on…read morethe drive over because it looks historical but at the time I had no idea what it was. However, there are signs at Kells that point to a cafe and museum and this ended up being those things. At Kells, we parked in this small parking lot next to a small abandoned church and did quite a hike down through a sheep pasture to get the the priory ruins. Apparently, you're supposed to park here at the mill and take the wooden path along the creek. Both were quite a walk but only one was up and down a steep, dung-laden hill. Whichever you choose, make sure you still visit the other one as there is more to see at each parking area. However, the main point of this review is about Jen's Cafe on the upper level of the mill. It's a very cute cafe with friendly staff and ended up being one of the best meals I had in Ireland. I had the chicken pie which was huge chunks of roasted chicken in a creamy basil sauce baked in a puff pastry shell. It came with a sort of coleslaw, roasted potatoes, and a greens salad with balsamic. They have different tea options as well as coffee and bakery items for desert. I thought about that pie for the rest of my trip. On a return trip to Ireland, this will definitely be on my list!
